Because the GOP made it an issue despite trans people being less than 1% of the population, and now conservatives are in a hysteria thinking every homely woman is secretly a man until proven otherwise.

I saw a street interview recently where they asked a trump supporter what % of the US is trans. He said 15% and refused to believe the interviewer when he said it was 1%
