It is. I've been playing for 9 years now and maybe I have 9 more, who knows. I'm not the oldest on either of the teams I play for so that gives me hope. I used to play rugby (rugby actually saved my life), and when I moved there was no team so I joined derby. I have teammates who are former soccer players, hockey players, figure skaters, judo champions, a provincial wrestling champion, artistic roller skaters, roller hockey players. All kinds and sizes. Super fun and it keeps me healthy and active (not just doing the sport, but as I try to do better and move to a more advanced play level, I need to work out to not get injured).
I tried getting into Derby as a pre everything trans while of course everything else was not superb either, it really would be good for me to get back into it... just need courage and drive...
I've only met 1 roller derby girl that I know of, and she was about 4'11", very cute, and looked like she could take a bus head on and win. It was very confusing.
Rugby has a huge variety of physiques. I was a chunky monkey prop, small but durable hookers, tall and lean locks, and that’s just the tight five… wings are your tiny speedsters, on down the back line and the rest of the forwards, there is a position for anyone.
People for some reason always think of the hulking meathead rugger when they picture a rugby player though.

Derby does have more variety in physiques though.
