Your submission has been removed, because it's a news article not pertinent to /r/europe.

Local crime news with no international or political significance will be removed. Criminal offences are common and by themselves are not relevant at a pan-European scale. However, we reserve the right to approve funny, interesting and/or unique crime stories. Meta-studies, or longitudinal studies, of crime and the nature of crime are perfectly acceptable.

FYI: It was, if not, one of the most high-profile murder cases ever in the history of Turkey. It took months of in-depth investigations by many authorities as the whole family of 25-30 joined forces to tamper with evidence, leave fake traces, and give false testimony to deceive the investigators.

Despite the ruling, there's still no single confession by the murderers - no plea agreement, nothing. Except for a collaborator, all still claim they're innocent after all the concrete evidence. It was, for weeks, covered by all TV channels almost live for 24/7. It was nearly impossible for crime scene investigators to gather any evidence from the body, as it was found weeks after the death (no one reported it, the whole village cooperates).

But why? What was the reason those sick fucks did this?

Who just goes "Let's murder a child".

If the whole family of 25 to 30 people colluded, they should also get harsh sentences. But I still can't make sense of it, why would they protect the murderers?

Throw them all in the jail and let them rot.

But why? What was the reason those sick fucks did this?

Motives are still unknown - they appear to be a religious cult (quite prevalent in Eastern Turkey) and thus investigators simply couldn't catch any word after months of interviews. For clarification, it's been a thing since 27 August.

There's no blood, no fingerprint, no scratch, no weapon - nothing. The death report says it was by hypoxia and some boot pressure was also reported on her neck. It was evident that she was murdered by her own family, but unknown by whom.

There were some bites (teeth marks) on her brother's arm that drew all the attention and thus undergone many scrutinizes - authorities even created teeth models to compare with. Three have been sentenced to life for murder (including the brother) but the actual murderer is still unknown.

The disappearance was first reported by the family itself and they used this to their advantage to trick investigators through false statements, probably hoping for its closedown. Meanwhile, before it became a national high-profile search party, they kept tampering with evidence to deceive rural investigators till the intervention by the Ministry of Interior and homicide investigators.

But they weren't that genius, for instance, some WhatsApp messages exist - they deleted but cyber cops then managed to recover. There's also CCTV footage, probably of the village school, in which the whole family (all the suspects) convenes to talk about the details after the identified date of death, they also bully a teen? who was reportedly willing to report.

I am so confused about the neighbour and the uncle. The uncle is the child's father's brother and is not blood related to the mother (or is he?). And the neighbour got only 4.5 years?

Mother, brother and uncle got a life sentence. AFAIK the father has been acquitted and in reality, the court asked for his testimony and he cooperated (a part I missed, it's a very complex case). There's no proof to charge the rest of the village, they just don't cooperate with the police and that's it - no evidence of participation.

Neighbour gets 4,5 years because he was the first to confess the details and cooperated with the court to some level, I don't know why the murderer is still unknown, maybe he also doesn't know? He moved the body for $5,690 and that's the reason behind the imprisonment. It was also somehow proven that he didn't participate in the murder itself.

For the complexity, each hearing took about 16 to 18 hours with a few breaks. I really only know the most basic outlines.

The officially not-announced rumor is that she saw her mom and her uncle having an affair and then she was killed so that she does not disclose it.

Stupid reason, but the family members seem to be stupid, so...

It's a high-profile murder case that has been covered by media almost 24/7 for months. Not really the same as a daily crime.

Isn't this a Kurdish minority?

Is there's an honor killing in an Iranian Kurdish minority family (most honor killings in Iran happen in Kurdish areas), would you post it on /r/Europe?

Why? Why not?

So you don't consider that part of Turkey in Europe? There are many EU-funded projects in the said areas. It geographically is not, yeah, but Cyprus is also in the Middle East. The Helsinki Summit had welcomed Turkey as a whole.

for months.

Nothing stays in Turkey's news agenda for months. It can be at most a few weeks. Our agenda changes quite fast, and we forget things fast.

And you have a Turkey flair 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

This is a high-profile case that has actively been on national news for months that point at the larger issue of cult-like activity and lawlessness in southeast Turkey. You'd have to deliberately ignore any form of Turkish media to not be aware of this
