[discussion] I didn't expect to see my keyboard on aliexpress

I got a comment on YouTube from someone who had bought a silakka54 from aliexpress. I was a bit confused, but quickly discovered that there were multiple listing on aliexpress. I designed this keyboard a few months ago. I wanted a slightly bigger keyboard, the previous one (silakka44) didn't have a number row.

Has anyone else bought one of those? I'm interested to see how well the keyboard is put together. But I don't understand why that particular keyboard is being sold. Firmare is very barebones and I don't know anyone else who has built their own silakka54.

I really hope those listings are not scams.

Latest build - decided to go even smaller from a lily58. It's pretty hard to comprehend how tiny a 5 column corne is until you have one in your hand. My girlfriend says the colors look like saved by the bell 😂

Kit from typeractive - magenta case/cyan display covers Ambient nocturnal switches DDC keycaps / MBK violet convex 1.5u thumbs

I have a cirque track pad on the way that I'm going to try to integrate to the right side as a future project.

[help] keymouse track

• Upvotes

Does anyone know where I can find something similar? What I am trying to accomplish is find the most comfortable keyboard possible.

I tried a friend's and it was the most comfortable keyboard I've ever used. I loved how I could wrap my hand around - rather than rest my hand on - the board and that I didn't have to move my hand off for my mouse / trackpad. Unfortunately it's out of stock

If it doesn't come back I may just have to get a glove80 and get an external mac trackpad

[help] I made mistake on last post - Looking for a board similar to Ximi V2

• Upvotes

Looking for a board similar to Ximi V2 the board has an aggressive stagger and is a 3 x 6 + 3 thumbcluster + rotary encoder & trackball on each split kb, my preference is a 4 x 6 because the number row is good for gaming, everything else about the board is what I am looking for and looks perfect, just with the number row. If anyone has any idea where to find a build like this. I already have the switches and keycaps. I also have the microcontrollers: 2 x Elite-Pi - USB-C Pro Micro Replacement RP2040 Controller.

I fixed the actual layout I meant to include. I mistyped

[buying advice] Tried ortholinear split keebs for a few years, and just couldn't get used to it. I went back to the MS Sculpt but I'm looking for something else

I'm wondering if y'all have any suggestions for a keyboard that is split, non-ortholinear, and supports low profile switches. -- bonus points if it's portable and/or supports some tenting.

My current favorite keyboard is the first version of the MS Sculpt with the negative tilt. Unfortunately, it doesn't split wide enough, and I'd prefer something with a linear action.

I've tried for years to like some ortholinear split options but just could not get used to it. I've tried and not quite liked: - Zen 2 from lowprokb.ca with red / pink linear switches (red for some keys I tend to press heavier) and some tilted keycaps I've designed for my own comfort. It's almost perfect, except for the fact that I still can't get used to the ortholinearness - Ergodox EZ - Kinesis Freestyle

[help] Kinesis Advantage Replacement PCBs

I've been looking everywhere to find replacement PCBs for my kinesis advantage 2. Some forums imply that they used to sell the parts ala carte, but that is no longer the case as Kinesis support will only sell the fully soldered modules.

Has anyone found a place to buy the PCBs directly?

For context, I'm trying to swap switches on a few of my advantage 2s, and wanted to play around with making one hot-swappable.

[help] GEIST Totem Wireless Build Help

Im currently building a wireless totem.

I soldered all the parts according to the build guide and tested each microcontroller by measuring the resistance on each pin to make sure they're soldered correctly.

I first tried to flash the zmk firmware provided by Geist. This kinda worked, with the left half connecting via bluetooth but the right half did nothing.

I then tried to flash the zmk firmware for the dongle build from eiga.

But whenever i flash the .uf2 file, the storage device disconnects and 2 seconds later reconnect, but not as a keyboard device but again as a storage device.

I dont know what to do next and would appreciate any help :)

[help] Help with nice!nano alternative

Hi, i recently bought some nice!nano alternative from aliexpress . Also a corne chocoflan PCB. I saw that the microcontrollers should work fine from this github page. I soldered them to the PCB with all the others things (buttons, battery etc.). After i flashed the software and tried to connect to the laptop, no devices appears in the Bluetooth menu, and while on wired no keypress is detected.

My question is how to you work with a Bluetooth microcontroller? How to check if the Bluetooth doesn't work, or the keypresses, could I debug the software on the microcontroller?

[help] zmk repeat key not with &mt or & lt possible?

Hi there,

for my split keyboard I would like to use &key_repeat as tap/hold.

I tried &mt LALT REP and &lt 2 REP. Both give me an error when compiling.

My favourite option would be &lt 2 rep. Is it possible to use the repeat key with &mt or &lt?

When I use &key_repeat as a single key it is working.

Thanks and cheers

Golo

[help] Most budget friendly ergo split?

Hi everyone! I'm a fairly new finder of this sub, but it seems to have been found at an ironic time. Im a software developer and we had a guy start at work that uses a split keyboard, that started my interest, so I was already looking at them.

I've been using PCs regularly for over 20 years since I was 11, and wouldn't you know it my bad habits and awkward typing/mouse angles caught up to my wrists, Merry Christmas right haha... With my recent diagnosis I decided I should seriously look at getting an ergo split to help and maybe a track ball? Problem is most of these options are way out of my price range especially the prebuilt ones and I don't even have the tools to do the DIY ones even if they are cheaper.

So I'm looking for some help. I'd love some suggestions and thought people have on ergo keyboards and mice (if mice are allowed to talk about in this sub?). Anything I can learn to help the pain in my wrists.

Also looking for what's the best option for budget friendly ergo split to help with wrist problems? This time of year is rough anyway with three kids birthday and wife's birthday all within a month of Christmas. Ideally I'd love to be around $100 but seems that is near impossible. Is there any options in that range, or something near by I could save up for (though not ideal for how my wrists are feeling), or does anyone have a decent old one laying around they'd like to part with.

Thanks a ton, you guys seems like a really cool community looking forward to hanging around!

[help] Totem Xiao Wired/Wireless

I‘m trying to build a Totem wireless. I’m basically done but my left half is not connecting. I can flash the controller and see the Bluetooth device but I can’t connect to it. I might have bricked something on the Xiao because soldering it was pretty difficult for me. So I was wondering if I could use the xiaos in wired mode and see if that works.

If possible - how would I do that? Could I just use the QMK firmware or do I have to modify the ZMK firmware to „ignore“ Bluetooth and do wired only? This I my first self built device.

I know that I would have to disconnect the batteries.

[help] Split keyboard

Hi,

I’m looking for an entry level split keyboard, ideally with a trackball. I’ve used a friends moon lander and quite enjoy it. I’m wondering if there is anything out there that would be slightly cheaper. I’m open to kits and have soldered some, does anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

[help] Not another Right Half Not Working

This is my first build of a mech keyboard so I am somewhat of a noob.

I bought a Sofle kit from here: https://keebd.com/products/sofle-v2-1-rgb-keyboard-kit with 2 Mikoto controllers.

So far I don't have a battery so I'm powering each half through two USB cables from my computer.

This is the firmware I've used: https://docs.keebd.com/firmware/?controller=mikoto

The problem is my right half is not getting recognised and no characters are showing in notepad.

What I've done:

  1. Swapped the controllers around and reflashed the boards
    • Outcome: Left board working normally, right one doesn't - this tells me there is no issue with the controllers
  2. Flashed the "Settings reset firmware" on each half and then their respective firmware on each half
  3. Pressed both reset buttons in the same time (pressed them once)
  4. Re-heated each joint on the controller and the sockets
  5. Tested with a multimeter the continuity of some of the pins from the controller to the switch / diode (see photo of the mapping)
    • I would expect at least some keys to work - but still nothing

Not sure what to try next. Adding some photos in case there's something obvious I'm not seeing
