Anyone struggling to find a job in the area?

I’ve been searching for months for retail, fast food, customer service jobs so I can afford to pay for my rent, since financial aid didn’t cover cost of living expenses for me. Has anyone been having similar issues? Anyways if anyone who is in the northridge area has a job that is currently hiring new workers, please lmk!!

Same literally since August it’s insane. I’ve had interviews with chipotle twice at the SAME location but didn’t get a call back. So yeah it’s been a tough couple of months, hopefully you find one soon!

I have, unfortunately some of the jobs I’ve heard back from require to have reliable transportation. As of right now I’m just walking everywhere or biking occasionally. Been mostly looking for jobs in the 2 mile radius

FYI for your future applications, being able to walk/bike/bus to the job is reliable transit. Also, it’s none of your employers business what your form of reliable transit is. As long as you have a drivers license just tell them you drive.

Yes, I have applied through Indeed, CSUN Handshake, Walk-ins, and nothing seems to ever work for me. I am panicking because I am trying to find any work that could be part-time to give me a chance and it's the same thing 24/7 no one wants to hire me.

Imma tell you this right now coming from someone who works in retail, this quarter is THE WORST TIME when it comes to finding a job in retail. The holiday season is coming to a close starting January, meaning the holiday hours are soon to follow suit. Those that work 30-40hr work weeks are about to see their hours get cut by damn near HALF that time, so no one would be hiring soon unless someone who’s a non-seasonal leaves, but even then, a seasonal person would be considered for that vacancy unless they turn it down.

I’d be down to try to help anyone with job searching when it comes to retail, but in this quarter? It’s tuff :/

Have you guys tried the career center? They might help you with your resume and interview prep. Also, check out free LinkedIn Learning through CSUN. There are plenty of courses that can guide you on how to write a better resume and how to highlight the necessary skills. Also, check out the Northridge mall. Just go there in person and ask if they are hiring. Bring your resume too. However, most places will do the applications online. There are also available positions on campus.

During my undergrad years, I worked on campus as a research assistant and at the matador bowling alley for my first two years. It was a great way to cover my entertainment and spring break funds, along with rent during my second year.

You legit have to apply to at least 3 jobs a day and your bound to get something. Idk if you have any experience in retail or food but that also might be something as to why your not getting any bites. When I was applying to internships for engineering I promise you I didn’t get a call until 3 months later but soon enough 6-10 jobs called me eventually. Just keep at it fam! You got this! Lmk if you need any help with resumes I’ll be more than happy to help!
