Recommendations Thirsties Duo covers alternatives
I don’t have my baby yet (4 more weeks!!) but I’m planning on using GMD flats and thirsties duo covers. Here’s the thing: I really don’t love their cover prints. I want some pastel, plain colors so navy and white are fine, but salmon, Maui, and opal are all too bright in my opinion. Are there covers that work as well (I’ve just heard they work incredibly well for catching wayward poops) but have cuter colors? I LOCE the Esembly colors, but they’re only single gusset but also I’m unsure of how much that matters! Hit me with your recommendations!

I loved the look and feel of my esembly cover BUT that was the only diaper that consistently leaked for me. We use thirsties and GMD prefolds. I do wish they had different patterns, but baby will usually have clothes on so they don't matter as much as you think.

Clotheez white covers from GMD are my favorites. Super soft, double gusset, and always contains the mess. I use prefolds under not flats, so I can’t speak to that, but I suspect they’d still work great

Did you find the 3 size system extra or worth the cost

Especially at the larger sizes, Clotheez covers often work better than thirsties in my opinion! Thirsties duo 2 size really needs your baby to have the right shape to fit correctly until your kış gets bigger. The biggest issues with duo wraps are the top seam wicking when kiddo has pants on and the legs not being snug enough on the smaller duo-2 size.

so you would go fully with Clotheez then? I’m super open to it, but no one seems to use clotheez enough to have a firm opinion

It would be fine to, but I wouldn't personally because I prefer more color variety and fit variety. For teeny tiny newborns, size zero is the bomb if you aren't using newborn fitteds. Very few covers really fit those tiny skinny legs like size zero does, and I find it very difficult to snappi on anything on a baby until about a month or so because their legs are just all over the place and inclined to curl up, so anything remotely fiddly is so difficult. So just a padfold in a size zero is super reliable and easy.

Worth the cost! I started my baby in size one wraps at a few weeks old and moved up to size two around four months. I rotate between 4 clotheez wraps and 2 thirsties duo Velcro covers, and that’s more than enough with only doing my main wash once per week. Sometimes mid week I’ll rinse and hang dry if the cover is smelling a bit too much like pee, and any that get poop on them of course go in the bin for wash. They dry quickly after rinsing

If you were to commit to one or the other, would you do so easily? Or you like having a mix of both?

I like having a mix of both, but if I had to go all in I’d go with the clotheez wrap. That said my baby is only 6 months- I know things change as they grow, become mobile and after they start solids. Also I only see myself using these for one more baby, so longevity is less of a concern for me. I do think the thirsties would probably last longer with heavy use over time. But I feel that the clotheez wrap should be fine with heavy use over 2 kids.

Thirsties are my favorite. There is a BST site on Facebook that you might check out for other colors and prints. They have a rule that nothing can be sold for more than the original price, so you usually get a great deal. However, we also used Rumparooz and Mama Koala. Rumparooz is very similar but a bit bigger for when baby is smaller since they only have one size. Mama Koala is basically a cheap version of Rumparooz.

I love the Esembly covers for the look and feel too, but they didn’t fit my baby right away, big leg gaps, so the Thirsties covers with the double gussets really were amazing for holding everything in! Clotheez by green mountain diapers, makes plain white covers, if that’s something you’re interested in. We also used and liked those in the newborn stage.

Petite Crown! You may also like La Petite Ourse colours. They are more muted/pastel. FWIW, I don't think double gussets on the cover make much of a difference. The outer gusset was usually not snug around the legs anyway. And if using flats/prefolds, you can fasten them in a jellyroll to help contain newborn poop. In my experience, cloth diapers usually contained the poopsposions but the trouble was during the actual changing of the diaper, trying to take it off, keep everything clean while baby is wriggling around.

Esembly is much softer I really prefer them to Thirsties feel and color wise. Edit to add: the double gusset thing never mattered in my experience.
