Discussion What do you guys think of this character for my cartoon parody world?

Basically, I had this idea for a parody world that is basically a darker version of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In this world, there was something called the Artistic Rapture, where characters from across media ended up manifesting into the real world, these people were called Animates and the Rapture slowly had caused total chaos. The story takes place 300 years later with the main protagonist, Elias Falk.

Full name: Elias Falk

Alias: Shadow Hachiman
Affiliation: Abnormal Tribes (Leader)
Age: 21
Race: Third-Generation Animate (Human-Feline Hybrid)
Gender: Male
Height: 5’11” (180 cm)
Build: Lean and wiry, with a scarred, athletic physique
Appearance: Sharp green eyes, dark unkempt hair, faint feline traits (claws, sharp teeth, retractable tail scar)

Backstory:

Elias Falk was born in Jeonghwa Province (Formerly known as Korea), within the oppressive society of the Showa League, where every citizen is expected to conform to the Singular Narrative. His mixed heritage made him a target of scorn. Elias's father was a Western Animate, his grandfather came from a German dark fantasy series, and his mother was a Catgirl (Demi-Human Animate).

Elias’ family lived on the fringes of society, trying to remain unnoticed. However, his father’s death in the Seishin Heishi (Showa infantry) brought unwanted attention, leading to the League’s execution of his mother for “narrative deviance.” (His mother was executed because they found out Elias was mixed and she didn't conform to being a "Kawaii" girl) Elias escaped with nothing but grief and a burning hatred for the Showa League.

As he was running around the woods, he met a band of Abnormal guerillas who decided to take him back to Mongolia to be with the other Abnormal Tribes. The Abnormal Tribes are a loose confederation of Eastern Animates that don't wish to follow the "Singular Narrative".

Personality

Elias is a parody of edgelord characters, he is loosely inspired by Bill Butcher and Eren Jaeger, his entire thing is that he's a very serious character and often brooding, but he is also the kindest and most empathetic person around.

He cares deeply for people around him and will always put himself in front of others.

Elias's story is about how it's ok to be serious sometimes and also having fun when you want to and about breaking the status quo and forging your own path cause you are allowed to do that.

It's also metacommentary on how it's ok for characters to be super serious and also a commentary on how anime fandoms hate non-cliche characters and content and studios being afraid of breaking status quos.

What do you guys think?

Writing: Character Help Positive BPD rep

I’m creating a character with BPD. They make a huge effort to keep their condition and episodes under control, and go to therapy, take medications, ect. to do so. However, they still experience their condition and still have episodes, though they take all responsibility for it and apologize and make amends and all that afterwards. How can I represent their BPD without demonizing them or their condition?

Writing: Character Help How could I improve this character arc?

I'm writing a story about a older bro (A) and his younger bro (B.) The brothers live in a tough neighborhood so A starts to teach B fighting skills, but doesn't have much regards if he hurts him since its "for his own good." People try to separate the brothers after this because B keeps getting badly hurt, causing A to run away with B so they'll stay together, but B wants to go back so A starts locking all the doors so B can't leave him. A later accidently starts a fire and the house B is locked in burns down, is saved by the antagonist but with burns, and grows to hate A. The problem is that I'm stuck here, is there any ways I can add to this? Like how A deals with B's supposed death, or how B copes?

Resource Write Rules of Your World That Shape Characters: Exploring Fairness, Conflict, and Growth

Whazzup! Whazzup! I hope everyone’s enjoying their Saturday brunch!

I find that building an entire society from scratch, never mind characters alone, is an extremely strenuous task, and it becomes even more overbearing when you lack a framework. That’s why establishing rules for your world is so integral! And I hope you will chalice this as an additional roadmap to challenge your character's philosophy, oppose their rhyme of reason, and sew emotional bonds between them, the world they live in, and the audience.

I found creating a lump of starter questions proficient in helping me revolve my story and the characters around the rules—the rules which fuel the crux of conflict and attenuate the societal and historical context of your world.

Making A Framework?

Start with some questions that help you sculpt your rules:

  • What do the rules mean to the divisions of society?
  • Who’s making them?
  • Who’s following them?
  • Who isn’t?
  • What are the consequences of breaking them?
  • What dynamics caused the rules to be put into play in the first place?

What are the consequences of breaking the rules/Defending them?

Did you care about the rules if there were no consequences for breaking them? Of course not. If there were no reins on the laws being steered, or outcomes associated with breaking those laws, then there would be unvetted and uncontrolled chaos.

Therefore, you need to make your rules matter—not just in the general sense but in creating extremely dire consequences for characters who break the established order. It kneads and ties the threads of emotional investment between your world, the characters, and your audience.

There are also some additional questions you need to ask yourself that will help you build a framework:

In Fullmetal Alchemist, Alphonse and Edward Elric face dire consequences for breaking the rules of alchemy in an attempt to resurrect their mother, specifically the law of equivalent exchange and the taboo against human transmutation. Their attempt costs Edward his arm and leg, while Alphonse loses his entire body, forcing his soul to be bound to a suit of armor.

They uprooted the natural law of alchemy out of desperation to retrieve what was lost, leaving the brothers’ quest to atone for their mistake and recover what they lost. This synergistic atonement deepened the ties and brotherly bonds between the two characters.

Are there certain groups tailored to follow one rule while the other is free to break it?

Rules for thee but not for me…

One Piece is a prime example of the unequal divide of powers and prejudiced enforcement of the laws. The Navy and the World Government are privy to enforce stringent laws on pirates and civilians but tend to exempt themselves from the slice of the blade.

There’s corruption and severe discretion in what face of the gavel hammers down—a gnarled wire of corruption, where elites such as the Celestial Dragons veer the world by bloodright, taking slaves underhand, killing without consequences, acting as if their justice is bred and sheened with purity, and playing the Navy pawns in the palm of their hand, justifying their acts of debauchery as long as those acts or sins were committed with the intention of protecting them.

Let’s not forget Ohara and how the Buster Call was ordered simply to destroy information about the void century, which most undoubtedly would reveal information that the Celestial Dragons or Imu didn’t want the rest of the world to know.

All this, while civilians and the pirates of the sea face searing insult when acting in the same accord as the Celestial Dragons. This double standard fuels the conflict between many pirates, especially like Luffy, who fights for freedom, and the oppressive systems that seek to control the world.

Consider Playing Off the Virtue of Fairness

We, as humans, simply don’t like leering on the edges of inequality. It is something innate within us that engulfs us with emotion when we feel we are being treated as less than—simply on the basis of superficial characteristics or being born into a disparaged sector of society.

Things we can’t control.

So if you want your audience to be engulfed with spite or tearing up with sympathy, define a boundary of fairness for your rules and create two groups.

Two groups.

One that tries to defend the rules—

And those that try to topple them—

It’s the one thing that continues to spearhead the plot of my own novel and will undoubtedly help you refine and shape your own story.

That threads us to our next topic...

Those Who Shatter and Those Who Guard

As I stated, you could create two groups: one primed to displace the current order and one gunning to defend it to their last dying breath.

The best way to add fluidity and keep your plot and world dynamic and ever-shifting is to discern the why of these two groups.

Now, what do I mean by that?

Well, what’s the reason each of these groups is bristling with passion to defend or attack the established order?

If nothing else, it offers your characters the opportunity to barrel toward the road of conflict, which, as we know, scatters the moth-eaten embers of development and growth in virtually every case.

Given that, within that conflict, their own idealism is being challenged.

What’s more, it gives living context to the world that you are attempting to ensnare your audience in.

Tell your audience just what “Those Who Shatter” and “Those Who Guard” stand for. Consider offering us some emotional context.

If you’re interested in a more thorough, systematic analysis of this topic, and sculpting laws and rules (with an additional focus on how inequality of law can progress both your world and characters) through using framers such as One Piece (Civilians/Civilians vs Celestial Dragons), Hunger Games (Katniss vs the Capitol), Attack on Titan (Power of the Masses with regard to the Yeagerists and Alliance and a deeper analysis of “Those who shatter vs Those Who guard” (The two most vital groups surrounding your rule system): https://youtu.be/HUYJK9eFWH0

Character Name: Ghost
Origin: Russia
Backstory:
Ghost was once a man with the potential to become the perfect soldier, crafted through a series of trials and experiments to be the ultimate weapon. His life was a blur of military missions and training, never questioning the purpose of his existence. However, when his life was tragically cut short, he came to a painful realization: his life had been wasted in service to others, living without ever truly understanding his own desires or purpose.

As he faced his death, Ghost felt deep regret for the years spent fighting a cause he never fully believed in. But fate had another plan. He was granted a second chance — a rebirth in a new world, a fantasy realm filled with magic, monsters, and unknown possibilities. This time, Ghost is determined not to serve anyone or live a life of sacrifice. Instead, he will live for himself, seeking the true meaning of existence while grappling with the powers now bestowed upon him.

Gifted with incredible abilities, Ghost’s goal is to use them for good, to make a difference in a world full of chaos and uncertainty. His journey in this new world is not just one of power, but of self-discovery, redemption, and a search for purpose.

Abilities:

  • Mental Powers:
    • Mind Prison: Creates an illusory world where the victim experiences a reality that is detached from time, trapping them in an endless experience of their own making.
    • Telepathy & Mind Reading: Allows communication through thought and the ability to read minds, gaining insight into others' true feelings and intentions.
    • Memory Erasure: Can wipe specific memories from a person's mind, leaving them unaware of certain events or experiences.
    • Dream Manipulation: Able to influence and create dreams, whether they are peaceful or nightmarish, altering the emotional experience of the dreamer.
    • Gaze of the Abyss: A powerful mental gaze that forces others to confront their deepest fears or desires when they meet Ghost's eyes.
  • Spiritual Powers:
    • Soul Perception: Capable of sensing souls and discerning their age, state, and nature, providing insight into the inner workings of others.
    • Spirit Command: Commands spirits to carry out tasks, utilizing them as agents to achieve personal goals or objectives.
    • Emotion Manipulation: Can influence and amplify the emotions of others, creating emotional disturbances or calm as necessary.
  • Physical Abilities:
    • Adaptable Organism: Quickly adapts to any environment or situation, making Ghost highly resilient to changing circumstances.
    • Superhuman Speed and Reflexes: Moves faster than most beings, with reflexes far exceeding human limits.
    • Absolute Regeneration & Endurance: Heals instantly from wounds and can endure intense physical exertion without fatigue.
    • Invisibility & Shadow Manipulation: Can blend into shadows and erase their own reflection or shadow, making them invisible to all senses.
    • Shape-Shifting: Capable of altering their appearance, including scent and behavior, allowing Ghost to mimic others.
    • Scythe: Wields a regular scythe, not magical, but an effective tool used in the collection of souls or for combat.
  • Perception Abilities:
    • Heightened Vision: Includes night vision, thermal vision, X-ray vision, and long-distance sight.
    • Echolocation: Uses sound to detect objects in the environment, giving Ghost perfect awareness of their surroundings.
    • Hyper-Sensitive Hearing & Smell: Can detect sounds and scents from a great distance, enhancing awareness even in complete silence.
    • Photographic Memory & Super Intelligence: Possesses perfect recall and an immense capacity for learning and understanding new concepts.
    • Energy Perception: Sensitive to various forms of energy, gravity, and other natural phenomena, allowing Ghost to perceive the world in ways most cannot.

Personality:
Ghost is a complex individual, deeply aware of the mistakes made in his past life. He is calm, introspective, and often philosophical, pondering the meaning of existence and the purpose of his second chance. Although he no longer seeks to serve anyone, he is not selfish. Ghost’s experiences have led him to believe that power should be used for the greater good, but only when it aligns with his own moral compass. His journey in the new world is not one of mindless destruction but of growth and understanding, as he searches for his true purpose while striving to make the world a better place.

Weapons & Equipment:

  • Scythe: A regular scythe, a symbolic weapon tied to Ghost’s connection to death and souls, used for both combat and his personal tasks.

Relationships:
Ghost is wary of forming close ties with others, but he understands the value of alliances. He keeps a distance from most, preferring to work alone, but he will lend his aid to those who share his ideals of creating a better world. While he no longer serves anyone, he will fight for those who truly need his help, particularly if it aligns with his own journey for meaning and redemption.

This description emphasizes Ghost’s past regrets and motivations in the new world, while showcasing his unique abilities and the deeper purpose behind his actions. It also touches on his internal conflict and quest for redemption, providing a full picture of who he is and what drives him.

Writing: Question WIP: is this edgy or something nice??? Spoiler

I'm working on a story called Death of an Oleander... So here's the plot

A guy has a argument with his mom about his crippling drug addiction, he storms of to a bar and meets a girl who suggests a new drug to him, this drug makes people aggressive and disconnected, the guy agrees to the drug, not wanting to miss out. While in the drug, the guy and the girl go and commit some depraved acts, coming back from the high the guy returns home feeling guilty yet content. The story explores themes of straying from morals, the hypocrisy in sticking to them and the question of whether someone can truly change.

The characters here:

-Nathan (protagonist): a Young adult with a crippling drug addiction, Nathan strives to satisfy his urges, yet seeks to change, judgemental and critical, he critises others, seemingly to delude finally from his problems, thinking what he's doing is "cool", not knowing how depraved he can be until Natasha comes around

-Natasha (antagonist): born from a family fond of drug abuse, Natasha knows her ways around getting whatever drugs she can find, spiteful and slowly becoming more and more depraved, Natasha strives in indulging in hedonism, fully acknowledging her descent into depravity in order to bring full misery to those close to her.

-Janice (protags girlfriend): narcissistic yet wanting to change, Janice condescending nature clashes with Nathan's ego, before seeing natashas effects on Nathan, Janice changes, trying to get Nathan to see natashas abusive nature.

Those are three main characters, and a mini summary on the beginning. I want feed back on the characters and story itself. I'll post updates on the comments. Just lemme know if it sounds edgy. I feel like Natasha's character feels too edgy for the most part, I got criticism of her being the typical "evil for fun" type of character, even tho I created some depth for her, I would happily appreciate any feedback on the characters or themes, etc etc thank you.

Writing: Character Help Power synergy for my char

Hi there! Here with another post, I'm worried I'll get judged for my post here. So, this is in a roleplay where my character has fictional abilities he has to use. This is a *general* rundown of his arsenal. Note that some have modifiers, and I will say them when necessary)

Devil Fruit (One Piece. Gomu Gomu no mi, has no water weakness compared to canon)

The Force (Star Wars. This is the Legends continuity version where things are much more powerful generally.)

Chakra (Naruto. Starting Element is Yin Release. Uzumaki heritage with Sharingan, which comes with no risk of blindness)

Haki (One Piece. Arm and Conq is what I start with.)

The world I'm in is choc-full of magical beings with very high-power ceilings and heightened technology capability. If anyone with knowledge in the 3 series could give me some pointers and the like, that'd be really helpful. My character also has 1 time a week training sessions that accelerate the trainings. Here's the specific wording

"You have an innate understanding of how to enter a trance-like meditative state. While within this state, you enter a mental world where you can practice with and train the power this is chosen for. Only powers picked with this perk will work in this mental world. While there, you will receive tutoring by an artificial entity with extensive knowledge and teaching methods for the power alongside an archive of relevant techniques and knowledge. The entity can be a former user of the power or an iconic/powerful character from the source Verse, personality included. For example, if you picked the Force you might be tutored by Obi Wan Kenobi within a Jedi Temple Simulacra.

With these sessions you will rapidly grasp the fundamentals of the power, increase your growth potential, and have a much easier time mastering your abilities, including complex/advanced techniques. For powers with high synergy, like additional super strength, the sessions will allow for composite training to maximize both powers’ effectiveness. Usually, you can spend only up to 4 hours in this mental world, and upon exiting you will find only seconds to minutes having passed in the real world. Any progress made in this mental world carries over to the real world, even muscle growth. You cannot enter this trance again until the cooldown has ended."

Writing: Character Help is this good and does it make sense? if not, how can i fix it?

i have a character, deadpica thlaat, who i love very much. i've had and roleplayed/written them for a very long time, and their personality has kinda gotten... big. theyre a coldblooded killer, a loyal freind, a devoted parent, a chaotic party animal, and more. some of their traits can even be seen as contradictory. i thought it'd be fun to, instead of fully fixing this, explain it and try to make it feel more organic.

deadpica is at this point already basically an entity who is older than human civilization, the most powerful thing in all existence short of an outright god, and holds knowledge that could make an average mind crumble. i thought it'd be fun to make it so theyre the only inhabitant of a strange grey area between mortal and god.

you see, when someone in deadpica's canon becomes a proper god, their mind is sort of expanded and changed, becoming capable of processing things like knowledge of every timeline and sensory input from multiple bodies at once. typically, this also comes with the new deity being mentally hollowed out, left with only the trappings of their former self and a bone-deep urge to play whatever role they have in the functioning of the omniverse. but deadpica got a godlike mind through other means, so they never got hollowed out and are free to fill it with personality in ways that can seem disjointed and contradictory to mortals.

the way i see it, deadpica's external pesentation of their personality is kinda like seeing 3d slices of a 4d object. they'll often choose to show their most coherent-seeming slices to others, but when theyre not actively modulating their personality for a goal they'll show weird angles with mixes of bits from the more coherent slices, if that makes any sense

so is this good and does it make sense? if it isnt/doesnt is there any way i can do this concept well? or should i just try to cut their personality down to one thing

Character Bio [Eldara] Elvira; noble-born, anarchist

Elvira is a dragon, shapeshifter, transgender anarchist who's been a thorn in the side of the New Erigian Empire since before the Empire even existed.

Born/hatched into a noble family of otherwise humans, Elvira's biological parentage remains a mystery, as is the case with most dragons. What matters is that she was born into and raised by a wealthy, human family, absorbing their values and worldview from an early age.

At the time of her birth, a previous nation (a republic of sorts) whose existence has since been entirely obscured and rewritten by the New Erigian Empire, was nearing its end, starting to unravel at the seams, and eventually falling in a civil war when Elvira was around 17.

Back then, she was still living as a boy, raised as the eldest son of the family that found her. They were one of the major players in the post-fall powergrab, managing to solidify power and amass an army of people in their employ, their debtors, and anyone who owed them a favor in one way or another. Together, they successfully gained majority power over the region of the Erigian Basin that would later become the Empire's territory.

The head of the family, Elvira's adoptive father, fell ill not long after the final battle, having suffered a major injury that not even magic could adequately heal, and so, soon after their position was solidified, Elvira became the new head of the family, and thus the ruler of the land.

Her worldview at the time supported the kind of dictatorial rule her position made her perform, but over the first few years of her rule, she became increasingly disillusioned with the whole idea. To keep her power, her position, and to deter would-be revolutionaries, she was forced to commit progressively worse offenses by the day, finally breaking one day when, in order to punish a town that refused to pay its taxes, she was advised to decimate the population, Roman Legion-way. This, at the time, would have been the peak of the gradual upramp in cruelty her regime had been subjecting their population to.

As the time for decision came, she did the unthinkable. She called her advisors, her family, all heirs to the throne, all the wealthy people in the region, and with one massive display of power, killed them all. She transformed into her true, dragon form, and unleashed a cloud of deadly darkness that sucked the life from all it touched. She demolished the hold she'd been ruling from, and wiped the place clean as if nothing had ever been built there.

Her performance had left everyone in the basin thinking that she too (the king) had perished, and in a way, they were right. She left behind evwrything she'd been raised into, shed her title, her political power, her wealth, and her previous gender. From then on, she'd only take female forms, further distancing herself from the system she personally destroyed.

In the resulting power vacuum, many new groups came to try and take the basin for themselves, the soon-to-be New Erigians included. For decades, she fought them, gradually solidifying her worldview and personal philosophy and politics into what we would recognise today as anarchism. No state, no elected or appointed hierarchy, and no tyrant should rule anyone in her view, and she would fight any upstart noble or kingdom that tries to subjugate the people of the basin.

For a while, she had plenty of allies, but over time, they all abandoned her, either because they found a hierarchy they would become loyal to, got too injured or old to keep fighting, founded families, or because they'd been bought by one of those upstart kingdoms. She gradually found herself isolated, not trusting anyone she fought alongside for more than a few weeks at a time, and made efforts not to form strong personal relationships for fear of being betrayed again.

Against her better judgement, she kept getting dragged into new conflicts because of people she'd become friends or even lovers with. It was one particular battle she'd been recruited to help with, that she had to unleash her darkness again, when she realized, after the battle had been won, that she'd been tricked into propping up a new king. She erased the battlefield the way she did her old kingdom.

She fled the area and moved into the Haraevaneum, a long, desert area where an anarchist society of sorts was forming already, helping them greatly in their progress. It wasn't until a group of elite soldiers came for her from the Erigian Basin, from the newly formed New Erigian Empire that she knew she couldn't entirely abandon her warring days. She dealt with the kill squad, and re-entered the basin, continuing her fight with occasional cells of allies, weakening and overall working against the Empire. She periodically disbands each cell, and sends the aspiring members to the Haraevaneum to test if they're really committed to the cause, where if they aren't, they're quickly dealt with.

She enters the story when she scrapes up 3 of the main cast characters after a particularly nasty fight between the 3 of them leaves all 3 weakened and unconscious. Two of them are serving a hierarchy that seeks to replace the leadership of the New Erigian Empire, while the third is still trying to figure out what she wants with her life, but is also the sister of another servant of the hierarchy.

She takes them into the Haraevaneum as something between slaves and prisoners of war, where they get to experience the anarchist society that's formed there in the last 600 years. They are eventually let go because they're deemed more of a threat to the Empire than they're a hindrance to the cause of the anarchists, and they reenter the basin together, where Elvira contunies to tag along woth them for a while, before leaving them behind when they inevitably get tecruited into the Takeover, and upcoming coup that would successfully replace the Empire's leadership and make the situation markedly better for everyone involved, magic users especially, who would no longer be persecuted.

She meets them again, about 3000 years later, as it turns out they've been frozen in time due to a fight they lost to a mad god. She joins them again as now they're also more inclined to see the flaws in the hierarchy they helped empower, and eventually she too joins the true main cast in the third arc as the stakes get raised to the level of an interdimensional war between the gods themselves, where both space and time becomes a battlefield for the warring ideologies of the various gods and their supporters.

Writing: Question Titles for a character based off werewolves?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello I'm a little new to writing but I have a character that I'm working and I can't think of a title for her. She's based around werewolves/ Bloodborne beasts. Her name is Ina (which means mother or bringer of life into the world) and I want her to have a title to denote her mythical and ancient nature but Im having trouble because I already have her name meaning mother and I don't want to lean into that too much. I have a small drawing of her above. 6 is also asserted with motherhood and peace so I thought six candles would be cool on her antlers. Her character is one of a mothering nature (duh lol) and she is supposed to bring up the humanity in inhuman creatures. I was wondering if I could have a few ideas for titles like in Bloodborne they have Gehrman, the First Hunter and stuff like that. I'm totally drawing a blank 😭 please help.

Hi everyone!

I’ve been lurking in this group for a while, and I’m constantly blown away by the creativity here. The way so many of you design and share these incredible character sheets—complete with thoughtful visuals, details, and unique styles—is super inspiring.

I wanted to share something I’ve been working on that might resonate with fellow character creators here. As a huge fan of character design myself, I know how much time and effort it can take to bring a character’s visuals to life, especially when you’re trying to nail that perfect look or style for their sheet.

That’s why I’ve been developing a platform called ImagiPortal, which includes tools for visually creating characters. One of its features lets you generate detailed character art using AI—you can craft everything from realistic portraits to anime-inspired designs and experiment with different visual styles to match your vision.

What makes it extra fun is that once your character’s image is created, you can test and play with them in our interactive chats. You can even generate more images of them in different poses, expressions, or scenarios to further build out their story or enhance your character sheet. It’s a way to not only design your character but also bring them to life in new and creative ways.

I’d love to hear what you all think about tools like this or how you might use something like this in your design process. It’s free to try out, and I’d really appreciate any feedback from such an amazing group of creators!

Let me know if you’re curious, and I can share the link (it is also in my bio). Or if you have any tips for what you’d want in a character design tool like this, I’m all ears!

Thanks for letting me share—I’m excited to learn from this community!

Writing: Character Help Any feedback on my character design?

Appearance: A man cloaked in a tattered yet otherworldly garment claimed from a death god, giving him immortality as long he wears this cape. he can also use it to hide in shadow with the use of magic he can travel between them (but he can't use that at the moment). His steely demeanor reflects his lack of emotions, a result of a deal with twin demons. He carries two swords

a katana that cuts through magic and a wakizashi that delivers unhealing wounds. Scars and faintly glowing runes from his sealed magic are etched across his body.

Personality: Pragmatic and detached, driven by logic rather than emotion. His choices are calculated, as he cannot afford indulgence, lest the demons feeding on his desires and emotions gain undue power.

Abilities:

  • Swordsmanship: A master swordsman, honed by years of training in solitude. His skill compensates for the absence of his sealed magic.
  • Immortality: Granted by the death god’s cloak, though its power might come at an unseen cost. (haven't deciced what this would be exactly perhaps the loss of memories of loved ones?)
  • The Twin Swords:
    • Katana: Cuts through magical barriers and spells.
    • Wakizashi: Cuts through nearly anything; wounds inflicted are cursed to never heal.

Weaknesses:

  • His sealed magic leaves him vulnerable in a world where others wield great power.
  • The twin demons’ hold over his emotions and desires creates potential for manipulation.
  • The immortality of the cloak could come with hidden consequences.

Backstory

Once a prodigious mage of unmatched power, known as the Mage of Destruction/Architect of Oblivion commanded forces so vast they threatened the balance of the world. His magic, fueled by chaos, drew the ire of the dragon gods, ancient deities tasked with preserving order. Fearing the destruction he could unleash, the dragon gods sealed fragments of his power within themselves. However, his magic was so vast that it could not be fully contained.

To complete the seal, a human mage—a woman of extraordinary skill—cast a spell at the cost of most of her lifespan. Her sacrifice successfully bound his mana, but before his power was locked away, he ensured the disappearance of the Book of Chaos, a grimoire containing secrets capable of reshaping reality. Neither he nor his enemies know where the book lies. he put it away himself but he has no clue if he will be able to call upon it once he regains his mana, if he regains it all. each dragon god poses an element of magic. the human mage is the key to unlocking his mana, the mage in question is long gone but she passed her magic seal down to her daughter.

Stripped of his magic, he turned to swordsmanship, training in isolation to reclaim a semblance of power. During this time, he forged a pact with twin demons, gaining his twin swords. The deal came at a price: one demon feeds on his emotions, leaving him devoid of joy or sorrow; the other devours his desires, suppressing ambition or longing. This emotional void fuels his pragmatic, detached nature.

The death god he once faced left behind a cloak as a relic of their battle. Donning it granted him immortality but tied him to the death god’s realm, a price he has yet to fully uncover.

he lives in the northern forest, nobody is aware that he lives there or who he is. everybody is under the impression the Mage of destruction died. his house is hidden by Will-o’-the-Wisps and Dryads they in return ask him to fight humans who venture into the forest with ill intentions.

besides his normal weapons, he also used some of the dragon blood from the dragon gods to experiment on himself, he managed infuse his right hand/arm with it he can awaken it making his arm gain dragon like traiths, he was unsure of it's effects so he has sealed it away in only his right arm, using a magical seal (which he had lying around, magic tools can be passive meaning they can activate when the conditions are met or active meaning you have to feed it mana to activate it. the seal was passive)

Discussion Have you ever decided to curse your main character for petty reasons?

So for context, my MC Ari Griff is 4 ft 11 1/2 and has a phobia of fire, and the main antagonist that he has to face off against at the end of arc 1 is his uncle Jaakan who is a 6 foot tall 200 pound chain fighting warrior who has the ability to control fire and manipulate it to his will. Anyone who practices martial arts knows that a short person needs shorter range to fight a bigger person, chain if a very unpredictable. Also you know fire.

The reason why my main character has this guy as his first main antagonist? He punched the character in the story based off of me in the gut.

Like if we could think about this for a second, imagine you are the main character in a novel, you don't know you are, but you are, you punch one wrong person and your writer decides to curse you somehow that handicaps you your whole life just for that one infraction.

Writing: Question Character development/progression

I’m creating a character from the early to mid 1900s (1906-1948 or 1950). They were raised in the racist and oppressive culture of the era, and therefore had prejudices ingrained into them. However, as they grow up, the come to realize that the prejudices were wrong, contrary to what they had been taught, but at the same time feel like this thinking is also wrong due to their family both literally and figuratively beating them into them. Over time, though, they realize that their realizations were true. I want to show how their ingrained prejudices affect them, how they progressive fight against them, and how it causes them to feel like they fighting against themselves, as well as internalized prejudices like internalized homophobia. How can I do this without demonizing them? They don’t fully agree with what they were taught, but they are abused by their parents if they don’t, and go along with it out of fear, but later rebel against it and their teachings.
