Adoption What is your take on breeds vs adopting from a shelter?
Now, to preface, I think a lot of people can agree that adoption from a shelter is the more altruistic choice. I have two shelter babies that I love more than anything in the whole world. But recently I’ve been thinking about eventually adopting another and I LOVE mainecoons. They’re the closest I can get to living with a bobcat.. which I would do if I could lol.
Have any of you gone through the different adoption processes? Was it worth it to own a unique breed? Any of you own a mainecoon before; if so, are they much different to care for than a domestic shorthair? Do you feel that cat breeding and adopting from breeders is ethical?
Bonus: here are my two cats merlin (tabby) and pepsi (void). :)

Adoption I really need help and advice about the cat I just adopted.
A week and a half ago I adopted a cat at the city rescue. It was actually quite horrible the way the setup was. They're all in these horrible wired cages, and all of the animals there were kittens except for Walter. He is 6 years old by the estimate from the veterinarian. He was not microchipped. They were guessing there was a chance he was always homeless. This is not a fact for sure though. I was told everybody kept passing him up because all of the other animals around him were kittens. They brought him into a room with me, and he immediately sat next to me. It was kind of beautiful, and I immediately adopted him.
He has lived under my bed ever since we got home. I have noticed over the last couple days cat hair on my couches, and my toilet paper was a mess this morning when I woke up. 😊
He is my first cat. I love him tremendously, but I want him to have a happy life. What can I do to ease his stress? I want him to know that this is his home. He is safe. I want him to freely roam the house, and make it his own. What am I doing wrong? What can I do differently? I worry that he is just afraid hiding under the bed all the time.
I attached the picture I took at the city pound. He's so handsome. What can I do to give him the best life ever? Thank you so much.

Adoption This person doesn’t think they’re serious right?
I’ve been mildly kitten hunting for about a month but now I’ve just left it up to the kitten distribution system. But I got this text in the middle of the night of someone trying to sell their black and white cats for $3000????

Adoption Rescued this boy during a storm about a year ago. He turned out to be so handsome (pics through the year)
Found him in a puddle during a heavy rain. Said to myself I will keep him for a week or two and then search a new home for him since I wasn't ready to be a cat dad. It's been more than a year and I never even looked to give him away.

Adoption Will be picking up this cutie this Sunday. My friend says that they can tell she is female by the fur. Is that true?

Adoption I adopted two 4 year old brothers yesterday. One of them pooped in the toilet last night. Stress response or toilet trained?
They are both stressed because they lost their home, were in the humane society for a week and have a new home now. Last night was their first night here. There was poop in the litter box and also poop in the toilet and a bit of fur on the toilet seat.
Do cats poop in the toilet if they are stressed or is this a sign that they might be toilet trained?

Adoption When your shelter cat finally comes around and loves you back 🥹 Spoiler
galleryWe adopted a father (Tigger) and daughter (Molly) duo. Tigger adores Molly but he has been very scared of us. We think he was abused by his previous owner and used as a stud. He started to let me sit next to him and stroke him without him freaking out. Last night while I was watching TV in bed he sat between my legs, stretched out and laid his head on my leg 🥹🥹 he's the long boi in the picture 😂 if he's sitting up and I rub his belly sometimes he'll just lay down and roll over for my belly rubs 🥹 He still won't purr, he's a silent cat (but I've caught him making gentle biscuits in the air) he only yowels for Molly because he misses her. She's never far, but she's a sassy bitch, she sits with us and ignores him 😭 Molly took no time at all settling with us, Tigger still isn't 100%, but he's showing progress 😁 I just wanted to share how happy I am 🥹

Adoption I’ve never been a cat person, buuuuut
I think I am now a cat person and waiting until next week for her appointment and officially getting her a wellness check. This very beautiful calico cat came up to me and my mom while we were enjoying some fall weather with my dog ( corgi ) and he didn’t even until she got closer to him. I did put my dog inside the house so not fighting would happen. I ignored the cat for awhile because I didn’t care and I’m not a huge fan of them anyways. The cat is definitely a stray cat and is super friendly and loving and so affectionate! I’ve never experienced such a loving cat before. Cats are okay, but this cat may have changed my mind. My mom kept saying that sometimes a cat chooses you and there may be a reason for it. I’ve grown to love this cat and I’ve been doing everything I can before her vet appt and getting her flea/tick free before bringing her into the house. Also, names for this kitty would be awesome! I have cocomo ( I had coconut yogurt that she went crazy for ) and mocha coffee and also my favorite Dutch bros coffee too. Sorry for the long rant!

Adoption I found Beezle in a parking lot five months ago. She has a skin issue that’s helped by steroids as well as a suspiciously large belly that would lead you to believe she’s pregnant. (I had her spayed) The vet’s best guess is an autoimmune issue. So, we’re rolling with that.

Adoption A month and a half ago, one of the kittens living in my yard almost died from a head injury. I nursed her back to health, and now she lives with me. I'm so happy!

Adoption It’s -8 here and heard a cry at our front door
Little one showed up at our door this morning with no sign of mom anywhere. She knew exactly who to go to 😄💜 We can’t keep her on account of our two dogs and two cats not really accepting her, but we can keep her warm for a bit. For now we are calling her “Pequeña”. Looking for someone to hopefully adopt her.

Adoption Did you know that black cats are less likely to be adopted than other cats
This is Wendy, Patricia, Harley Quinn, and Croft they have all bin in the Brooks Animal Protection Society for some time and they all would love a home. I linked the website on where to find them below. I also made little 3d printer versions of them ☺️
Studies show that black cats are less likely to be adopted than other cats. Black cats are two thirds less likely to be adopted than white cats and tabby cats are twice as likely to be adopted over black cats1. There is a common myth that black cats are the least likely to get adopted in animal shelters and rescue facilities across the U.S.2. Possible explanations for why people do not adopt black cats include superstition, the belief that black cats are less friendly and more aggressive, and the belief that people cannot read the emotions of black cats3.

Adoption My cat saved my life
Title. I was in a really bad, scary spot. Therapy wasn’t working, I upped my meds and it wasn’t working, it was the first time in a long time that I wasn’t able to help myself out of that spot. So I got a cat. The second I saw her on the website, I knew she was for me. From the second I met her, she was an angel. So small and affectionate. She was so sick when I adopted her, I nursed her back to health. She is genuinely the most important thing in my life. I have never loved a pet the way I love her. I love her the same way I love my brother. She is genuinely everything and more to me. I never have bad days anymore, ever. Even if my day is awful, she will run to the door every single time I get home to greet me. She is my tiny white shadow, she follows me everywhere. She sings to me, she sleeps with me every night, she will come and cuddle in my lap so softly when she’s tired. The thought of ever having to spend a day without her makes my heartbreak. I never knew and I never understood how a pet could fill a void inside you and make you feel so fulfilled, and not lonely. I could go my entire life, living in a tiny flat with her, and be truly, TRULY happy. I have never felt presence like I do hers. I am so lucky to have found her. She saved my life and she doesn’t even know it.

Adoption I work at an animal shelter; Heres the cats that have been with us the longest
These kitties are all so sweet and it makes my heart ache when people come in, play with them, then choose another cat. I am of course happy for our cats getting adopted, but i would love to see some of these kitties finding lovely homes. We are in Central NY

I want to thank everyone that commented on my post 2 weeks ago. Y’all gave me so many suggestions, but Ash was the one that fit her best.

Adoption What colour we calling this?
Adopted my kitty 2 months ago, mircochip paperwork calls her grey tabby and diluted ginger. Hadn't heard the term diluted ginger before so curious to see if people agree with this colour or would describe her as something else? Side note she is 6 months old today
