Cat Picture - OC Just wanted to share my little Fig’s story because I’m proud of the lil guy

So I already had two kittens before I adopted Fig - my other two were brother and sister from the same litter and were around 3 months old when I took in Fig.

We got him because a friend of a friend had a cat that had fallen pregnant and Fig was the last kitten left, and they were being really weird about getting rid of him, saying that if no one took him (for free, they were not selling him) then they were just gonna dump him at a shelter and leave him on the doorstep. I wasn’t really in a position to take in another kitten but I’d rather have the added expense than think about what the alternative could be and where he could end up, so I said I’d take him. We were assured he was 8 weeks old and that he had had flea and worming treatment and he was super healthy.

When I went to collect him, I’d expected to be going into the house, but the people giving him away were stood outside their house in the cold and dark with this kitten and just handed him over and said bye. He was NOT 8 weeks old. I got him home and he still had that way of walking that very young kittens have when they have only just started to venture out of their birthing box, like super close to the ground, really wobbly they look like their legs aren’t fully extended yet. He also clearly had worms as his stomach was extremely distended, and he was crawling with fleas.

I took him to see a vet and they said he was probably only 5 weeks old, and my heart broke for him. They’d been feeding him adult cat food too.

I got kitten milk powder for him and gave him a mix of that and some kitten pouches too, and honestly he was such a good little guy. He was so brave and so curious and affectionate, but my other two kittens did not want to know him. He was so desperate to be close to them, especially my girl kitten who I think he kind of wanted to be his new mum. But they hissed at him and really excluded him. But he still just kept on going and tried his hardest to fit in with them (spoiler alert, they get on REALLY well now!)

Despite having a very difficult start in life, Fig is now just over three months old, his weight is perfect for his age, he no longer has worms or fleas and he is a very happy little guy who just live his life to the fullest. He does still suckle on things like my dressing gown, which is cute but also makes me sad that he missed out on so much time being able to suckle on his mother than he needs to do this to self soothe. I think about his mother a lot and what life looks like for her, and all his siblings too.

But here are some pictures of Fig - first pic is just after we brought him home, second one is from a month ago and the third was taken a few days ago. He’s a very handsome chap!

Go Fig

What a lovely story of a wonderful human, taking the time and effort to give Fig a great life.

He's a lucky boy to have found such a great parent, and he's very handsome.

He's also a cowcat which is even better.

Fig is a lucky and very gorgeous boy! And you are an extremely wonderful person for making room in your home, in your heart and on your lap for him. Sweet little guy deserved a better start to life than he got, and now he’s already made up the lost time and is clearly very happy with his his life turned out.

Awe! I named my first void Idra because it means Fig tree and I had a good boy doggo named Newton. 😅 I didn’t want to be too on the nose with Fig, but I still have a soft spot for it.

SO CUTE! 🥰 tell that precious Bebe that I love him.

He is adorable, and I'm glad everything is working out well for him now. I know it can be scary taking in a cat when you're not sure if you have the finances for it, but it sounds like you pretty much saved his life. I hope he has a long, healthy life with you 💜

You sacrificed to give him a better life and look how happy and healthy he is! It's hard but focus on that instead of the others you can't help.

Oh he’s so handsome!

He had a painful past, but I believe everything happened for a reason. If he continued to stay with his mother until 8 weeks he might never be alive now because of all the fleas and being fed the adult cat food, and probably super neglected in many other areas.

I think I would report these people for animal abuse if their cat is still alive.

Thank you for the love everyone! I did show Fig how much everyone is rooting for him but he’s a cat and doesn’t understand, but just thought you should all know he has been told about you all ❤️
