Tips How to cover nails without fake nails?

Howdy. I just relapsed after 3 months and my nails are looking rough. I was looking to cover my finger tips for a while so I don't feel self conscious about them at work. I don't like wearing fake nails, it's a sensory thing for me. If you have any suggestions that would be great!

Me too, I’m in the same boat. Mine are pretty bad and quite ugly 😭 I was thinking of getting acrylic nails but I don’t want to damage what’s new growth. I’m just gritting it out and I put the Olly touch cookie polish over my nails and that made them look a little less scary

I wore acrylics for a bit and they damaged my nails, so all the growth I had while wearing them I had to cut off anyway 😭 I hope we can grow beautiful nails

You can get nail rings in a range of styles, which aren’t super common but not uncommon either.

Finger cots (cotton or silicone) are a thing, but might look obvious / weird at work. Work depending.

Band aids are a common choice, but covering every single finger will look obvious.

If they’re in okish shape, nail polish is the obvious option. I found it hard to find good colours when my nails were extremely bitten short, but nudes were generally ok. For discrete, colours that match your nail bed or your skin colour worked well. For colour, I had a dark brown that was actually surprisingly the best looking (my skin is not dark brown). Dark colours in general imo looked better on my short nails than anything brighter.

If you can get away with wearing gloves, some fashion gloves might be an option. Not really ‘in’ fashion right now. But I used to wear vintage ladies day gloves or lace gloves sometimes.

Agreed! Light colored nail polish seems to amplify every imperfection on my fingers. Deeper colors do tend to look better. OTOH, deeper colors tend to require more frequent touchups.

Gel strips maybe?

I wear clear rubber base gel on my natural nails, no fakes. Looks like I just have a clear coat on top. It bends slightly so it is less likely to lift from my natural nails. I can still put regular nail polish on top as long as I use a non-acetone nail polish remover.
