Habit Tracker I told my therapist I was starting to share my notes with others and I got a lot of praise for my bravery. So here’s even more therapy notes 📝

Wow. You are certainly getting your money's worth with this therapist. There's more wisdom and kindness on this page that most people get in a year!

Thank you for sharing this!

All these quotes are from a year of going with her, she’s a specialist in PTSD from r*pe and abusive relationships and have honestly saved my life. But I’ve never paid her anything, since therapy is free in Denmark 🙆🏼‍♀️

cries in american

u/thenewmeredith Nov 09 '20

Is it common for Danes to write and speak in English? I figured foreigners only use English online to accommodate us

28

u/kittenplay18 Nov 09 '20

Very common! We get taught English when we are 9 years old and are pretty much all fluent in it 🥰 my boyfriend and friends all live in UK, so I prefer having my journal in English

As someone who can’t afford therapy due to crappy insurance... thank you so so much for sharing this

u/aalitheaa Nov 09 '20

Have you ever looked into low cost or free therapy being offered in your community? I know it's heavily dependent on the area, but my city has a great clinic for this. Thought I'd mention since a lot of people assume this simply doesn't exist.

u/pickledradishess Nov 09 '20

No I haven’t, thanks for the advice I will check it out!!

u/onety-two Nov 09 '20

Call an therapist’s office and ask them if they have a “sliding scale” for those who can’t afford payment. if they don’t ask them if they know any offices that do.

2

u/pickledradishess Nov 09 '20

I never knew that was a thing! Thank you for the suggestion I will look into it!

I don't know and couldn't find what this means 🙄

u/MmmHmmYupDatsMe Nov 09 '20

Aw, good for you!! I’m so happy for all your realizations.....

I bet this would go over well at /r/getmotivated too.

Edit: or one of the relationship subs

11

u/CraftGoblin Nov 09 '20

“Try to figure out why you aren’t the most important person in your life.”

That hit a little close to home 🥺

2

u/awndrwmn Nov 09 '20

What does this mean?

10

u/Ria_Mara Nov 09 '20

I love seeing your therapy notes, I always find something in them that really resonates with me. This one reminded me to be kind to myself. And that meeting people doesn’t have to be scary. Thank you for sharing these with us. 🙂

You have such neat handwriting!

I sort of quit my first attempt at therapy (I just didn’t click with any of the therapists) and these quotes are making me think I should try again lol

11

u/kittenplay18 Nov 09 '20

Took me a long time to find a therapist I really click with! Don’t give up ❤️

2

u/nomz_bunny Nov 09 '20

thanks! That gives me some hope :)

Being doing therapy for a little over a year now, my first therapist was not comforting and really made me feel guilty pretty much every session, switched to another therapist in February. Your notes from your therapist remind me of my new therapist and that just makes me happy! This is exactly the reassurance and guidance a therapist should be giving.

7

u/iamashlie1 Nov 09 '20

wait so do you take notes during therapy or just remember it all?? thought about taking notes but didn’t want it to seem strange..

these are all amazing and i needed to hear every single one of them, so thanks!

22

u/kittenplay18 Nov 09 '20

I write them on my phone and then later write them in my journal. I think she’s gotten used to me grabbing my phone and saying “can you repeat that, so I can write it down?” 😂 she also gives me homework in between sessions, like figuring out what personal boundaries I have and so on

9

u/SaltyPirateWench Nov 09 '20

Your notes have started REALLY making me wonder if I need a new therapist. I have been thinking about that for a awhile, but not enough to make a decision... all she ever tells me anymore is my feelings are valid, I'm being too hard on myself, I need to do self care etc. Like I can literally predict what she'll say and yeah, in between sessions it kind of helps to think of her saying those things to me, but I'd really like some deeper direction and homework too.

14

u/caseyjosephine Nov 09 '20

If you’re not feeling like you’re getting what you need out of therapy, find a new therapist!

Alternatively, tell your current therapist “I feel that my feelings are validated in therapy, but I would benefit some deeper direction and homework. I want to make sure that these sessions give me as much to work with as possible.”

5

u/aalitheaa Nov 09 '20

I don't like that type of therapy personally. It's possible that you truly are too hard on yourself, but I would try a couple more therapists and see if they all agree.

Even if you should simply be gentle on yourself, there are definitely still resources and homework your therapist could be giving you about that. I would also bring this up to your current therapist of you haven't already, and say you're ready to be challenged and grow a bit.

Ultimately if the therapy doesn't help you improve, probably time to switch regardless. You can even ask them to help you set up a treatment plan with goals, so you can see tangible examples of improvement if that is something you struggle to see.

u/What_Happens_when_ Nov 09 '20

Beautiful but I also love all the quotes :)

4

u/BahamaLlamaRama Nov 10 '20

I definitely thought the line said "When you are struggling, break everything". I missed the second part of that sentence.

4

u/keitothekraken Nov 09 '20

I love that “thoughts are not facts” are in there bc I know from a CBT perspective that “feelings are not facts”. I love this distinction bc I believe how we feel is real but what we think is not always true. I’m studying to be a therapist myself so these are cool notes to come across! It seems to be working so well for you so keep it up :)

Edit: fixed grammar errors

3

u/spideyowl Nov 09 '20

I like that first step bathroom quote!

3

u/bacon_greece Nov 09 '20

😭 damn. Keep me coming!

3

u/unicornvega Nov 09 '20

Just reading “thought are not facts” has blown my mind. Thank you for sharing ❤️

3

u/rubykins Nov 09 '20

I LOVE THIS IDEA SO MUCH 😍 I'M STEALING IT

2

u/Joubachi Nov 09 '20

Gosh that handwriting is just too nice, yes, I'm jeallous. xD Mine is somewhat good but compared to that it's a mess.

Beside that wish you all the best. :) Therapy is a big step forward imo, no matter why.

2

u/Eline31000 Nov 09 '20

Thank you for sharing. It can also help other people :)

2

u/allalala04 Nov 09 '20

Omg, these are such powerful words. Thank you for being so brave and sharing it with us. I hope you don’t mind if I will copy some of it to my quotes page.

2

u/kittenplay18 Nov 09 '20

I don’t mind at all!

2

u/TheGrapesOfStaph Nov 09 '20

Really dig the "thoughts are not facts."

2

u/heyNiceLamp Nov 10 '20

wow, this is making me question if I should try a new therapist. Mine doesn't say anything useful, but asks me a lot of questions... i understand she's trying to get me to realize things on my own but most of the time she doesn't have insightful questions that actually make me stop and go OHHHH

She's just nice to talk to but it seems like im just paying for someone to listen to me blabber and validate my feelings, but she doesn't seem to be constructive in the way these quotes written are here.

i really do love this, i have a section of similar quotes i refer back to when i feel anxious about myself. Could i be able to right some points from your notes? i love this insight from your therapy session.
