What would you add to the original BuJo layout?
If anything, what would you add to the original BuJo? I’m getting ready to start a new one and finally found success with the original method. I have reached the point where I’m considering other layouts with a similar level of simplicity.

I add things related to areas of my life. E.g. I have a semester plan in addition to the future log, because I work at a university. I have a cat spread where I note vet visits, claw trimmings, and behavior changes. Are there areas of your life you want to reflect on/pay more attention to?

Oo the cat spread is a cute idea!
I think I might need a meeting notes/brain dump spread after each monthly spread since I’m always in meeting hell 😅
Sometimes I like the idea of a media consumption section of sorts (books/shows/movies/video games I'm enjoying) but haven’t landed on a format for that I’ve liked.

Yes! I switched to keep my meeting notes digitally but I do introduce brain dump pages as needed. I keep a book log with a table where I keep track of the following: title, author, fiction/nonfiction, author gender, and date read. I used to rate them out of five, but now I just mark the ones that resonated with me. I tried a gaming log, but didn't keep up with it. I keep a casual log of things I watch with dinner, which is movies/TV shows/ long YouTube videos.
I think its hard to know if a layout will work in advance! I would treat each spread like an experiment -- you can even schedule a reminder in your future log to evaluate the spread and maybe tweak it.
Also, feel free to disregard but -- you don't have to set aside the pages in advance! The brain dump can appear anywhere, not necessarily in the same place every month!

what’s the difference between a brain dump page and just adding it to your current daily log? Actually what is the daily log to you, if not a place to freely brain dump whenever and wherever?

I think some brain dump pages are more thematic! E.g. I often braindump/brainstorm the tasks for the following month. If it's something that i know will take a bunch of space, I give it its own header. But generally I agree with you, the daily log is most helpful when used freely.

I’m currently still reading the book and so I might be doing some thing wrong according to bujo. But for me I have many brain dump pages. And those pages are mostly related to either a place I often visit or people I often visit. Just so that if I go visit them I know what we last talked about, their interests and things we borrowed. I currently plan to change my setup accordingly. Get a travel journal with 1 section for birthdays, names and interests, a second journal with goals, logs and future logs and a third with reflections. All pocket sized because A5 hardcover is annoying.

I wish that original plan included a weekly layout or plan. I feel like a lot of people work/live in weekly blocks and I find it odd that Ryder only vaguely acknowledges that.

Hard agree. I’m not a monthly planner at all, it’s too big of a time block. My weeklies are where I actually plan my tasks. I love that there are so many options for weeklies created by others, but I would love to see a “Ryder-approved” version like his monthly.

Ryder/BuJo recently did actually introduce an official weekly spread - let me find. I think it was on their blog. Simple as always, I feel like I t’s basically a spread to reflect the week before on the left page and the. Brain dump upcoming tasks on the right. I don’t really use it because I had figured out my own weekly spread overtime, but it was cool that they at least acknowledged some people think this way.

I like the year at a glance spread over two pages.

I currently use a spread with 2 pages for 6 months. The sixth block is reserved for anything past the future 5 months.

It's not part of the original system, but a weekly spread is pretty much essential for me.

I'm very new to bullet journaling but use a weekly spread in addition to the daily and future logs.
