Discussion An alarming dispatch from the past

So happy that Woody is this years anti-bastard because he’s been my hero ever since we had to sing “This land is your land” in elementary school chorus but I just wanted to hi light a lesser known but eerily relevant song called “Lindbergh” and it’s final lines:

“And I'm gonna tell you workers, 'fore you cash in your checks They say "America First, " but they mean "America Next!" In Washington, Washington”

It’s pretty obvious that this song was written during WW2 about a nazi party member but sit with that fact a second.

I always sing “Worried Man Blues” when I want a little pick me up. I know it because another band covered it and now it’s firmly in my musical lexicon.

BTW, the podcast Someone Lived Here has a Woody Guthrie episode that was a nice break from depression for me after the election. Short and sweet.

Tear the Fascists down is my personal favorite

God, that's such a good song. The US's stronger union culture really helped fight fascism domestically in the lead up to the US entering WWII.

Ive lived in Oklahoma forever and they always leave out the best verse of This Land is Your Land

"In the squares of the city, in the shadow of the steeple, near the relief [welfare] office, I see my people"
