Hello baby elephant fam! I wanted to share a few interesting updates from the Sheldrick Wildife Trust.

Hey baby elephant friends! It's been a minute since we last spoke.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which is near and dear to our hearts here at /r/babyelephantgifs, recently published some extraordinary accomplishments from their work over the past over the past 47 years. In the spirit of celebrating SWT and all the fundraising we've done for them in the past, I thought I'd share these tidbits with you:

  • 320 orphans successfully raised

  • 62 wild elephant babies born to ex-orphans, including four (to date) born in 2024 alone

  • Over 100 elephants and 4 orphaned rhinos currently dependent on the Trust's care

  • 9 fixed-wing aircraft and 3 helicopters in the SWT Aerial Unit patrolling for anti-poaching, veterinary care, and conservation efforts

  • In 2023 alone, teams patrolled 42,997 miles on foot, confiscated 15,967 snares, and assisted in the arrest of 1,056 perpetrators of wildlife crimes

  • To date, Mobile Vets have attended to more than 13,310 animals, including 3,628 elephants

Anyway, I thought these stats were inspiring and wanted to share them with you. Should we do another fundraiser for elephant charities this holiday season? It's been a few years since our last one. Let me know, and in the meantime consider adopting a baby elephant anyway! It makes a fun gift for those that are near and dear to you.

Until next time, take care :)

Thank you for this update! They do incredible work. I wish their work was not needed, but I'm thankful that they exist. I will make sure to make a donation later this year

They are wonderful. I have adopted 4 Ellie's, and two of the Rhinos. LOVE Sheldrick.

I have been supporting them for 15 years and I love getting the updates. A bright spot in a very dark world lately.

A: Because it is addressing the community from a position of leadership to push for a charity directly associated to this subreddit

B: Why do you care?

They are more than likely a troll, the account is only 11 days old.
