Submission statement

The purpose of this video, which is actually from the news article is to highlight the complexity of war. Though it is true that Israel are not directly freezing Gazans to death, they did create conditions that have put Gazans at risk through constant displacement with no shelters. The takeaway here is that there are many ways to commit genocide. Many ways to skin a cat.

Something to consider as well. Though 48°F may not seem very cold compared to other countries, these Palestinians are also likely starving, lacking shelter, heating and clothing to resist against these temperatures.

Did you watch the video you posted? More than adequate clothing for the weather and the guy doesn't look malnourished.

What kind of logic is that? Look how skinny he is. Even thought you see some people looks fat, it DOES NOT disminish the fact about the number of aids being allows for hundreds of thousands people, the number of shelters, food and clothing materials, the destruction all of civil bulding, and support of basic life, the weather and temperatures, etc..

How do you know he have good enough clothes? may be that is the only thing he own, dirty or being shared. Many things can be considered, because one/two person does not disminish the fact of satistics for aids being allowed for general population

They.could not have frozen to death. It does not get below freezing in Gaza.

The nighttime low these days is around 10°C. Headlines like this exploit geographic ignorance of the average reader.

It doesn't have to be below freezing to die from exposure and a baby is obviously more vulnerable

Yes. Babies have large surface area relative to volume and lose body heat quickly.

So this poor girl might have succumbed to hypothermia.

However, it is important for journalists to use precise language. Otherwise readers (esp. from cold climate countries like the UK) might think it really is below freezing in Gaza, which is inaccurate.

FFS, most of the journalists have been assassinated and English is not their first language. For Palestinians, this is freezing/it’s what they know. How about we give some grace and put some responsibility back on the reader? Can you imagine telling someone who’s trying to survive a genocide “well actually, your baby didn’t die from A, they died from B”.

I get that Palestinians are put in the impossible position of having to prove their genocide but we are at the point where you either believe the insurmountable proof or you don’t. Britons thinking it gets to freezing in the Middle East is the least of their concerns.

I'm from Canada, and I know how hypothermia works. It doesn't need to below freezing for it to happen. It's cute that you think that the UK is an example of a cold climate country, though.

Babies died, and your inclination is to sow doubt and division. I really hope this is your job. If it's not, you need to show a doctor or therapist your comments about these dead babies because something isn't right.

You're being uselessly pedantic.

Otherwise readers might think it really is below freezing in Gaza, which is inaccurate.

Which matters... how?

The fuck? Have you ever sat outside in 50°F weather? You wouldn’t last more than a couple hours wrapped in a single thin blanket. An adult body could brave it and escape sick maybe, but a newborn? No shot.
Your comment ironically shows the ignorance of the average reader. 👍🏼

It’s also rainy and cold in Gaza, everything is drenched from heavy rain.

Video footage of tent cities being flooded and clothing drenched from heavy rain, refugees can’t stay dry, no electricity and only small fires for warmth in those camps.

Go sit out in rainy 50 degrees temperatures for 24 hours and tell me it’s not cold.

Even if you are a healthy able bodied adult, if you catch a cold or sudden illness you could easily die in those conditions from lack of shelter and warmth.

Ok; take a seat and brace yourself.

It is not summer all year round in Gaza Dickhead!

Did you think they had lovely warm weather all year??

It is fucking freezing and babies are dying in blanket tents.

Are you serious? You don't need freezing temps to become hypothermic.

You just need inadequate shelter/clothing for the temps in your area. Babies are also much more vulnerable to hypothermia because of their small size.

It’s almost like you didn’t take the time to google.

Or you could have not said this and not made yourself look like an absolute moron

This is so wrong. You can die of hypothermia at 60 F / 15C under certain conditions. It's probably worse for infants. Giving you the benefit of the doubt though. If English isn't your first language, you may have thought "freezing to death" actually meant freezing temperatures were necessary. Pretty reasonable assumption, actually.
