What's going on with YouTube Free Android and its Mini player...

Post image

Hello all.

It's my first post here, so...

TLDR: I have noticed that YouTube seemingly allows it's YT Premium mini-player feature on a rare amount of select videos when use the YouTube app on Android.

Can anyone help me understand what's going on here?

Alternative TLDR I haven't been a YouTube Premium member since 2020, but yet very occasionally will a random video open up in it's mini player view. Pretty neat but very random with no warning or knowing in advance.

Right. Basically as a free membership member, on occasion, I get YT Premium Pic-in-Pic for free, depending on the randomised video it presents its form in.

It's only when you go back to the search results (or any other menu in the app I guess) while playing a video, it's not the true mini player because you cant switch to another app and have it stay up.

Just another terrible ui design choice by Google.

On the video I had played, I can go onto my main phone's home screen and the video will still play on the background.

Interesting, it doesn't work that way for me, I think the bad design answer is still appropriate lol.
