I love how the one who kicked pretends to be hurt when he just knocked someone out cold

They always do. Soccer players are notoriously soft and dramatic

u/limpingdba 12h ago
It's more that play acting is rewarded and at the professional level you do whatever you can to gain an advantage

u/Kilgore_Brown_Trout_ 10h ago
It ruins the watchability of the game, IMO. I say that as a player and youth coach.

u/limpingdba 10h ago
It's horrible to watch and generally infuriating, but when the difference between a foul being given or not can run into the millions of pounds, its hardly surprising that it's an accepted part of the game now

It's really not that bad in the big 3 (EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga). It's not even that agregious in Champions League. yeah, it happens. Yeah, it's silly, but no more than every receiver in the NFL throwing their hands up for a flag because they didn't catch the ball.

Exactly, it was a problem when Neymar first appeared on the pitch, today not so much. But Liga MX that shit is insufferable to watch every match has some top notch soap opera acting. MLS has a bit, but is better than Liga MX. Now the NBA is so much worse with the bad acting.

u/buddywatersguy 10h ago
Why doesn't soccer implement a no flopping rule? Wouldn't that change the game dramatically?
1
u/Suspicious-Singer209 5h ago
I know EPL reviews matches: “In England, starting in the summer of 2017, a three-man panel consisting of a former player, a former manager, and a former match official would independently review video evidence on the Monday after games. Any player whom the three-man panel unanimously decided had caused an opponent to be sent off or had won a penalty as a result of deceiving the referee by simulation would be charged by the Football Association with “Successful Deception of a Match Official” which carried a penalty of suspension for two matches. If a player is found guilty of deceiving an official or admits to the charge, the yellow or red card given to the opposing player can be rescinded.[13][14]” but they also review for flopping and call attention to the player

u/iK_550 8h ago
There already is an adjacent rule. If you go down easily in the penalty box you get a caution(meaning next time you get a yellow card), if you weren't touched/obstructed it's a straight yellow card.
On the rest of the pitch it depends on the referee. Some will just caution a flop while others just let it play out.
But honestly that's how football has always been since we were playing it as kids, and it shall be the same for a while longer. I would rather someone dives that an actual goal be denied, moreso in the World Cup.

u/DisplacedForest 10h ago
Exactly. A lot of these people are happy to watch a total of 25min of actual gameplay and 45min of commercials for the NFL but can’t take 5min of stoppage and no commercials for an EPL match.
5
u/daryl_fish 9h ago
It has less to do with the stoppage and more to do with the competitive integrity of the sport.
-7
u/DisplacedForest 9h ago
What about this changes the integrity of the sport? The refs know what’s going on for the most part, it’s not like teams are getting huge advantages or players are getting suspensions for exaggerated injuries… I don’t understand where the integrity is in challenge
7
u/daryl_fish 9h ago
Faking injuries as a strategy is the opposite of integrity. It's really not that complicated.

I say ths ALL the time. The majority of football (NFL to Pop Warner) is standing around. I timed it one game because I must win all arguments with my friends. It's something like 4 seconds of action for every minute of game clock.
1
u/travellingscientist 7h ago
I mean you don't need to time it. A 1 hour game takes 3 hours. And then there's the standing around when they're running the clock down.
5
u/DisplacedForest 10h ago
Dramatic, yes. Soft, not quite.
The clock in soccer doesn’t stop. So there’s very rarely a stoppage in play to rest. An injury, even a dramatic fake one can get you like 60sec mid game to recover. Additionally, in upper leagues a team has 3-5 subs per game allowed. There are 11 men on the field. That means 6 are playing the full 90+ minutes without rest (with halftime as the exception).
Compare that to American football where the average player plays 11 total minutes…
As a former player, those 60sec to not be at full sprint are valuable.
Also just to comment on “it makes the game hard to watch.” Ok bro… for me the incessant commercial breaks which are longer than the actual gameplay total and whistle blowing in every other sport make it hard to watch. To each their own.

u/Snoo_17433 8h ago
They're not soft, they aren't actually hurt. They're pretending to try to gain an advantage. It's wrong, but so is commenting on something you don't understand.
3
u/EnthiumZ 4h ago
What do you me pretend? He obviously broke his foot in that guy's mouth. A fractured feet is not a joke.
-1
u/Hats_back 4h ago
That shit actually would really hurt the top of the foot though. Not in every instance, but the angle of how something hits the foot can make a few lbs force really ruin your day.
Had a … similar… event one time and it ended up swelling 3x the size and there were 7 fractures in some of those many foot bones.
Now I didn’t lay down like I was unconscious after the blow… but I did say mother fucker out loud a lot while legitimately hobbling the rest of the night. Afterwards unassisted walking didn’t happen until a day of ice and elevation plus wrapping/compression.

On 17 May 2011, he was on the receiving end of a kick in the face from Chris Mavinga while both players were tussling for the ball in a league match against Genk, which left him with several facial fractures and broken teeth.

Instant KO. Slammed their head on the ground too… 😬 that’s scary. Hope they’re okay.

Isn’t that American Football?
2
u/Bucket-of-kittenz 14h ago
Besides the obvious that it’s a different sport, they also wear padding.
Rugby is too much about scrums and I want to see more just, flat out ass kicking.
MMA and any form of fighting has rules and ehhh it’s kinda lame.
I want some serious roid rage monsters to just beat eachother to a pulp over a ball
2
u/paulbunyanshat 13h ago
There's some Italian sport that is basically just a giant fight with a ball involved. I'll try to look it up
Edit: nvm someone beat me to it

u/bugman8704 14h ago
The sport you seek exists and it is called 'Ice Hockey'
1
u/Bucket-of-kittenz 14h ago edited 14h ago
It’s really tame now compared to what it used to be :/
Edit to add: even a skate to the throat just isn’t enough.
The sport I seek was gladiators but I guess I just have to watch movies to get my fix. Ugh, acting.

Maybe Australian football is my your bag? It’s like football (soccer for the US) though with much more interaction than the Premier League.

These guys are next-level with anything involving feet, kicks, and kicking with feet. That was no accident. 100% on purpose
3
u/The_Magic_Sauce 10h ago
This sounds like you never saw a football game in your life, and this is your first contact with the sport. Don't make unfounded statements. That would be as fair as me saying you are 100% dumb without knowing you.
-1
u/lifeisgoodoutdoors 1h ago
Sounds like someone is an expert in the subject. Good for you man. You probably doing pretty well. Happy for you. I stand on what I said. 100% not an accident. Bless your heart clown

I despise soccer. The guy in Blue kicks the other dude in the face and he goes down likes he's injured.
The whole sport is played by losers.
