Cyprus is just a more aerodynamic version of the USA.

Nov 06 '24
Nice aerodynamic comparison. Cyprus clearly is better.

u/Peastoredintheballs Nov 07 '24
Would love to see those claims backed up in a wind tunnel
11
u/fairlywired Nov 07 '24
All we need now is for someone with access to wind tunnel stimulation software to test it out.

u/A-NI95 Nov 07 '24
Cyprus: has part of its territory controlled by Turkey
USA: has just been wholly overtaken by Russia 😈

u/prixxapple Nov 06 '24
Cyprus kinda reminds me of a helicopter 🚁😭

u/ScottM266 Nov 06 '24
Also never realised that the US looks like a whale 🐋

u/jujsb Germany Nov 06 '24
We have the same. Half of the German subs are Trump now.

u/Devil_Fister_69420 Germany Nov 06 '24
Damn seriously? I'm only on r/tja so I only saw like 2 or 3 so far
Edit: I'm also on r/2westerneurope4u but obviously there it's just memes about it nothing serious at all lmao
43
u/jujsb Germany Nov 06 '24
I checked some and there are fewer than I thought. Mostly on the meme subs or shitpost subs etc. But we can't get round it either.
11
u/Devil_Fister_69420 Germany Nov 06 '24
Well one thing's for certain tho, that law that's basically reinstating Wehrpflicht will definitely happen now (imo a good thing, always hated muricans telling us they're paying for everything we got)
9
u/jujsb Germany Nov 06 '24
Olaf Scholz has also dismissed Christian Lindner. The FDP will most likely withdraw from the Ampel coalition. If there are new elections (they are coming 2025 anyway), the AfD will probably come to the top, especially after the results in Thuringia and Saxony. (Gott bewahre). So perhaps Wehrpflicht is not too far-fetched.
11
u/Devil_Fister_69420 Germany Nov 06 '24
Yeah I'm surprised the AfD hasn't officially been recognised as an extremist party and disbanded cause bro they couldn't make it any more obvious tbh
(In case you can't tell I absolutely fucking despise the AfD and any who unironically support them)

As a naive but curious Englishman, would you mind telling me what this "Wehrpflicht" law is about? :)
9
u/JollyJuniper1993 Germany Nov 07 '24
It‘s just the German word for mandatory military service. No thanks let‘s not bring that back.
6
u/Kalkin93 United Kingdom Nov 07 '24
Oh I see, thanks for explaining. Yeah fuck that lol.
1
u/JollyJuniper1993 Germany Nov 07 '24
Sadly, I think it‘s very likely it will be brought back because the German population is just beyond lost. I‘m luckily old enough to not have to do it, but when I have kids at some point you‘ll bet I‘ll teach them how to dodge it.

u/Jojo_2005 Austria Nov 08 '24
It's coming back in Europe. We don't have many young people which only hope of getting father in life is the military, like in America and still quite a lot of countries still have it.

I always say thanks and don't stay up too late, you've got work in the morning and mama wants a new pair of shoes!

The main Swedish sub is full of "Trum was elected how will we survive?"
I just 30 min ago learnt that he was elected because I don't care and didn't check Reddit all day (also I avoid Swedish media a year before the election in the US because that's all they write about. Meanwhile people don't even know about chat control in Sweden even if it was our damn dumb Swedish politician who proposed it)
6
u/CovetousFamiliar Nov 07 '24
I'm in Ireland and it's exactly the same here. My mother-in-law sits with the news on all day and any time we go over to her house, it's something about the US election on TV. So sick of it.

Originally a part of his family came from there, yeah. But that was like 3 or 4 generations ago, they don't even speak the language anymore.

Ah, Cyprus the 52th state of the US.
74
u/Perfect_Papaya_3010 Sweden Nov 06 '24
Sweden 51st? At least when I worked in grocery stores with lots of 18-20 years old they spoke of the US as though we live there. Probably because our journalists also think we live there and young girls are easily influenced by media

It's worse than I thought.

The most immediately annoying part of this election result is going to be d-bags like this gloating
7
u/HerculesMagusanus Europe Nov 06 '24
With how divided Cyprus is already, I don't think they're going to be fond of Americans deciding Trump is now their president.

Even Israel fell to us defaultism two days ago when Netenyahu fired his minister because he wanted to negotiate peace and placed a true war hawk in his place. As if Israel had prior knowledge of the US election outcome
27
u/automa1on Türkiye Nov 06 '24
war hawk tuah

I like it lol Thank you. I’m caught up in my own Us defaultism mental state and am doom scrolling in Reddit looking for reasons to laugh. I know that every time I do I will make a step further into once again being the world citizen I wanted to be when I was 6. And you have helped me take another step
7
u/Fthku Israel Nov 06 '24
He's not a war hawk, he's a puppet for Bibi. Before this he was the minister of twitter (foreign affairs)
5
u/peppelaar-media Nov 06 '24
At least that knowledge from an Israeli is some solace. Thank you for that

I state the obvious, but the way US shapes its foreign policy always affected major events in Europe, at least since the 1910s. Their decision to join the first world war, the great crash of 1929, them offering lend lease material support and then joining the fight during WWII.. the list goes on.
It's no wonder virtually everyone, no matter where they are from, is posting the election results.

u/lettsten Europe Nov 06 '24
How is this relevant to the Cypriots?
Weeell, Cyprus is caught in the middle (geographically) of the Greek-Turkish territorial disputes and is essentially in a state of cold war—consider e.g. the 2018 flashpoint and repeat 'cold' engagements between fighter planes on both sides. Both Greece and Turkey are NATO countries. Given POTUS' influence and some of Trump's statements, both the future cohesion of NATO, the development in the Middle East (with Turkey taking an opposing stance to Israel) and not to mention any US involvement in the Cyprus conflict itself, whether directly or through US policy in the UN and UNSC, it's not hard to see that POTUS can have a massive influence on what happens in Cyprus.
22
u/glasorz Poland Nov 06 '24
The OOP would have been fine if it specified that Trump is the new POTUS and invited a discussion on how it affects the future of Cyprus. If info about the new president is posted on a Cyprus subreddit without mentioning Cyprus, it only makes sense if it's about the president of Cyprus
7
u/lettsten Europe Nov 06 '24
Oh, I'm not defending posting it in r/cyprus, I'm just pointing out how POTUS is relevant to the Cypriots

Probably just reaching out for help. As an American, I feel helpless and alone today. Please, world; help.
1
u/juicyfruits42069 Sweden Nov 07 '24
To be fair, USA has a pretty large influence on Cyprus and has a large force deployed inside of Cyprus.
-2
u/fortalyst Nov 07 '24
It's almost as if American election results can have negative impacts on the rest of the world, hey?
5
u/Redittor_53 India Nov 07 '24 edited Nov 10 '24
Doesn't mean he is the President of the whole world
2
-4
u/fortalyst Nov 07 '24
I never said he was. But if you're in one of the 100+ countries in the world who will be largely impacted by his foreign or economic policy then it's still relevant news domestically
10
u/Redittor_53 India Nov 07 '24
No one is saying that US elections won't impact those countries but calling him "the President" is totally wrong
4
u/InquisitorNikolai England Nov 07 '24
Yeah I agree with you. Yes, the fact that trump is elected will affect Cyprus, and many other countries. But their elections will have a bigger effect than the elections in another country.

How is this relevant to the Cypriots? The title makes it seem like he’s the president of Cyprus as well.
