I feel like lyric is such a tease with Bullet. She only seems to really care about her when she doesn't get enough attention from her own boyfriend. Also why was she being teased when bullet met kallie's mom?

Her dbag boyfriend had a new girlfriend. While he was hugging her, she was taunting lyric, saying "he's got a new woman now. You gonna cry?"

The fuck? The same guy that got raped and had lyric take care of him after he got his ass kicked? Wut.

Wow I'm surprised more people didn't comment on this thread. I'm happy Bullet finally had her moment with her lady crush. She needs some love in her life. Also at the beginning I thought that one fat cop was kind of a prick. If a woman comes into the police station frantically about something you should probably give her the time of day instead of brushing her aside. Seeing mireille enos in such a dark role after seeing her play a sweet, loving mother in World War Z was kind of shocking in a way. It just shows how good of a actor she can be.

It's such a tired old plot device though - cop ignores frantic person with crucial information. Still an overall good episode - Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos are both so charismatic.

Except that's how cops usually act...

Yea, I know because I saw it on TV.

Overall a pretty solid episode. Always knew they'd suspect the priest of having to do with the killings. Kinda happy it happened early on so it doesn't seem like too big of a shock. Once again mireille enos completely kills it this episode (i seriously think this may be her best season acting wise so far) her meeting with Seward was intense as shit (obviously to be expected) I'm not really sure how it works in prison but could a dude in the position of Seward (especially after knowingly allowing Alton to kill himself) just demand a visitor and then have another visitor right afterwards? seemed kinda weird.

Is that the prison guard?

Frankie! How the wife and kids!?!

2

u/Huacati Jul 01 '13

Looks like he's just inspecting it / having a look

Testing out that hanging platform

Quick question... Did Seward say before this episode that his dad was in prison too? I remember most of what he said about him but I couldn't recall any mention of him being incarcerated as well. Just curious if it was revealed for the first time this episode or mentioned earlier.

Anyway, now we know where the razor blade came from, and based on Seward's dad telling him he did the right thing by "keeping his mouth shut", it stands to reason he knows more about what really happened as well.

5

u/kpkpkpk Jul 01 '13

I think it was revealed for the first time this episode.

5

u/madeInNY Jul 02 '13

I thought the mouth shut comment was more about taking it like a man. Not whining and going through dozens of appeals. Becauae he "taught him to be a man". Not that he knows something.

what about Henderson? does he really have a newborn?

3

u/rickiracoon Jul 04 '13

Seward recognized a stain on Henderson's uniform as baby spit-up and asked how old his baby was.

u/jx84 Jul 04 '13

Good question!

Still no progression on Francis this episode except Seward's father mentioning him during the visit and him being 'out' of the prison for that night. That related back to the spoiler image someone posted above makes me feel like my theory of him being connected somehow is going to progress. Maybe he is also connected back to Kalle and Twitch's gross parole officer?

It was interesting and jarring to see Seward having more emotions this week. And now you really start to get the picture that he's innocent but has lost all hope of making it out of death row alive. I'm wondering if that plotline (Linden saving Seward) will run until the very last episode... with Linden having to prove his innocence right before he goes to execution.

Re: spoiler image from next week; maybe Kalle is alive in there?

It looks like next week Danette speaks with the priest, I wonder if Bullet tipped her off to go there, and I wonder if she has encountered him previously in her life either at the shelter (or less likely: under his real identity?)—the staging of that scene looks more intimate than 2 people who have never previously met.

At this point I'm not really sure where things are going, and can't figure out how danette, the priest, joe mills, and francis might all be connected.

Any theories or ideas?

What was Seward saying when his jail buddy was killing himself? I couldn't understand a word of it.

5

u/Not_that_easy Jul 01 '13

I can't remember verbatim, but was basically calming him, saying things like "the hard part is over" and "just let go." I think those lines were for calming himself as much as they were for his buddy.

1

u/Caitlinface Jul 01 '13

Gotcha - thanks!

u/thylacine_pouch Jul 05 '13

Yeah, I turned the subtitles on here.

u/justflycasual Jul 01 '13

Anyone else find the suicide scene extremely disturbing?

2

u/dugiepro08 Jul 16 '13

Sorry I may not be thinking straight, but what did Holder mean when they broke into Seward's old apartment and said, "Mayor Richmond's waterfront. Eminent Domain.

2

u/letsgobruins Jul 01 '13

Boooorring episode.

Thought the writing was a little lazy for the 'breakthrough' that Linden got on Seward's case. It took her that long to figure out that Adrian was sleeping in the closet that night?

5

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '13

It took her that long to figure out that Adrian was sleeping in the closet that night?

She didn't know any history about the child's sleeping in the closet until the child's foster parents brought it up.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '13

But she found him there, you'd think she would have spotted the stars or asked him if he was there the whole time. Something would have been a giveaway that she would've figured it out earlier.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '13

Perhaps a plot device so that she has yet another reason to beat herself over the head for failing to correctly solve the crime in the first place.

3

u/jmarita1 Jul 01 '13

Yeah I thought this was a disappointing route to take. It seems like such an obvious thing to miss. Or even, why wouldn't you ask Seward about it during interrogation? Don't you think he'd have said it? "Why was your kid hiding in the closet? Was he hiding from you?" "He sleeps there frequently. Check, you'll see."

Also I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have at least a pillow and blanket in there with him if he sleeps in there frequently. And if he had a pillow and blanket, wouldn't it at least be semi obvious he wasn't in there hiding?

And ALSO when she laid down all I could see was Holder's feet up to his knees, and he was as far back as he could have been. Closer to the closet and you'd see even less of him.

Sooo that was weird when she stood up and said that he saw the killer. And couldn't he have been asleep when the killer came in, and miss seeing his face?

Ahh ok I must have somehow missed that!

1

u/dugiepro08 Jul 16 '13

I think we don't know enough about the case/evidence when Linden initially investigated it. The child may have been irrelevant, or Seward may have seemed guilty without a question. I don't really mind the plot device, because I think it will lead to more interesting actions with Seward and lead us more into Linden's past.

2

u/justflycasual Jul 01 '13

I think that they will find Joe Mills dead, killed in the same fashion as the other girls. I think the killer is watching everything, and will kill Joe because he/she feels the cops are being led astray from the real "mastermind."

This episode made me suspect Becker as the ultimate killer. Similar to previous seasons, the killer is is a character we see from the start but don't even remotely suspect until much later. We already dislike Becker, and he mysteriously disappears for a long stretch of time this episode. He seems to have an axe to grind / motivation for keeping Ray Seward behind bars and cleanly/swiftly executed.

3

u/bwnorman Jul 02 '13

You're contradicting yourself.

the killer is is a character we see from the start but don't even remotely suspect until much later.

We already dislike Becker, and he mysteriously disappears for a long stretch of time this episode.

Kind of heavy handed for halfway through the season, no?

Everyone is a red herring at this point.

3

u/thylacine_pouch Jul 02 '13

Well, I guess by "we don't remotely..." I should have said "Linden and Holder don't remotely suspect." Becker has no obvious connection to the murders, but isn't a character who will seem to have come out of left field (introduced late in the season in a deus ex-y way) if he's revealed to have been the killer all along.

2

u/jx84 Jul 04 '13 edited Jul 04 '13

What about Henderson? He was late for work this episode. He might be an even bigger surprise than Becker.

1

u/thylacine_pouch Jul 05 '13

Henderson is Chief Tyrol from BSG, right? I guess I feel like, from a writing perspective, we've been set up to like Henderson with his newborn kid and his occasional sympathy for the inmates. Becker's kind of a hardass and I could see something happening along the lines of Henderson discovering Becker's guilt and then Henderson being in jeopardy as Becker tries to silence him. Seeing Becker's nastiness go up against Linden's tenacity would be a cool conflict / climax to watch, too.

I find it rather upsetting that the writers misrepresented Copernicus in this episode. Holder talks about Copernicus developing a geocentric model when in fact he developed a heliocentric model of our solar system.

3

u/dugiepro08 Jul 16 '13

Holder wasn't paying great attention to the Space program on the Discovery channel.

1

u/gutnedawg Jul 17 '13

Neither were the writers apparently haha
