His team is playing Tennessee, and she is their sweetheart

Reminds me of top gear in Alabama. The guys challenged each other with writing stuff on each other's cars. The first one to be killed would lose lol. The wrote things like "man love rules" and "fuck NASCAR"

Added for those who may not know.
They also had the old lady owner of a gas station call "the boys" on them and had a bunch of scary looking men in pick ups pull up and threaten them and iirc even throw some shit at them. Like a mini version of what happened to them in Argentina (which you should look up if you aren't familiar it's absurd)

Look up what? Alabama football team HD something happen in Argentina?

The top gear boys did a road trip in Argentina where they were going to end it playing car soccer with a group of Argentinians they were going to pull together at their destination.
Unbeknownst to them one of the cars they were driving had the license plate H982 FKL which some people in Argentina took as a reference to the 1982 Falklands War in which England basically kicked Argentina's ass. It's still a major sore spot for Argentina and Top Gear is British. That license plate led to an international diplomatic incident. A bunch of protestors got together and threw rocks at the Top Gear crew injuring several of them and running them out of the country and into Chile. The Argentine ambassador to the UK even demanded the BBC apologize (the BBC's response was rightly to tell them to piss off they're the ones throwing rocks).
Well it turns out the car had been registered with that license plate since its date of manufacture in like 1991 (this incident was in 2014) and no one on Top Gear had even noticed it might be considered a reference to the war and when they were alerted to it they actually changed its registration to use new plates but the Argentines didn't care.

Isn't she everybody's sweetheart?

Yes, but she was born and raised in Tennessee, Dollywood is in Tennessee, as well as several other Dolly related things. She's kind of like their patron saint

Okay I actually love that.
I've never really been into sports, but when I was 16 my uncle, my dad, and I went to a Rangers Devils game after my uncle won the tickets at work. Now, I'm from NJ- but that's not why I was rooting for the Devils that night. I was rooting for the Devils that night because we were in Madison Square Garden.

He was just trying to rile up Tennessee fans. It worked incredibly well and also made basically everyone else mad as well.

I know that lots of racists and homophobes hate her for not being racist and homophobic
4
u/dietwater94 2d ago
There was something that just happened last week where people are trying to “cancel” her for some racist statements from decades ago but I don’t know the entire story. I kept seeing memes about it and then I read a few comments on one of them where people were asking why everyone suddenly hates her when she was so beloved. Haven’t taken the time myself to dig into the controversy though.

u/hotelrwandasykes 2d ago
I’ve heard criticism about a civil war-themed ride at Dollywood wasn’t sufficiently anti-confederate. Which I kinda get the sentiment but let it go.

u/dietwater94 2d ago
Yeah I remember when she addressed that years ago though. I think if that’s what this is about, given she donates a lot of money specifically to aid literacy for low income communities, and has been an outspoken LGBT ally, both showing she cares for the disenfranchised, I think that would be really dumb. I’m gonna eventually just have to look into it to see, because I saw the claim that it was racist statements, but it could just be old shit being drudged up.

u/hotelrwandasykes 2d ago
According to the comments this is just an OSU fan mocking Tennessee State or whatever, which I find hilarious

that’s been going on since canceling was a thing
downvoted for pointing out that trying to cancel her isn’t a new occurrence? lol

this sub is like a wooden rollercoaster that hasn't been serviced in twenty years. it's shaky at the best of times, unstable at the worst, and the ground is always littered with useless nuts.

u/Complete_Fix2563 3d ago
Did you come up with that? Its awful

u/harry_monkeyhands 3d ago
i read it on a bathroom wall at target and i haven't stopped thinking about it since

quick to criticize, but won't answer a direct question about yourself... i get it! self-evaluating is hard. want me to distract you with another awful joke? here goes:
we've met before. recognize me? last time i saw you i was flushing the toilet in that target bathroom 💩
seriously though, i had a really bad time in that bathroom. it smelled. it hurt. i bled a little. i tried to wash my underwear in the sink but the stain wouldn't come out. i kept scrubbing and scrubbing and scrubbing with that nice smelling soap... nothing.
the employee there kept yelling at me to put my pants on but i didn't want to put my pants on because of the mess on my butt, so i wrapped a towel around my waist. but i hadn't paid for the towel yet (and i wasn't supposed to have it in the bathroom anyway) so they called the po-lice. luckily my ex-wife is a sergeant up there in the po-lice station there, so she got me some new pants and let me call my dad to pick me up.
the worst part was i forgot my darn wallet in the bathroom there. but i was banned from that target, so my dad had to sneak me back in under his big coat. and you know what? as soon as we was back in that bathroom i had to go again. can yew believe 'at? i had to take a big nasty shit again in that bathroom.
anyway, how you been doin since then?

I absolutely love how toxic OSU fans are! Anyone offended can crawl back up their holler!/s dolly rules.
19
u/Joe-Eye-McElmury 3d ago
I had to google this to figure out the context — OSU was playing Tennessee State, so this OSU fan wore this as a middle finger to Tennessee State.
Naturally many OSU fans were pissed off too, because Dolly Parton is about as universally loved as any public figure can be in the insanely polarized 21st century we live in.
Personally, I don’t give two tosses about college football, but the fact that this shirt’s related to college sports just makes it about a hundred times stupider than it would have been with zero context.

u/Fit_Job4925 3d ago
im gonna assume osu is a team and there isnt a weird grudge players of rhythm game osu! have against the state of tennessee

u/HungryAttorney2 3d ago
It's the playoffs for college football right now, it's just general shit talking and toxicity.

u/jmr1190 2d ago
Toxic is probably the most overused word of sports fandoms at the moment. What makes this ‘toxic’?
5
u/HungryAttorney2 2d ago
An elderly lady with almost no relation to a college sport catching strays. That dude will also probably fight you in the parking lot.
3
u/alvysinger0412 2d ago
I think it's pretty absurd to assume someone with a joke of a shirt, that he probably didn't expect posted on the Internet, is fighting people in parking lots. Plenty of people talk shit at games and then go home without any violence implied or performed.

She’s a Tennessee icon and they were playing Tennessee. He obviously didn’t actually have anything against her. Why so sensitive?

u/ThrowRAlobotomy666 3d ago
I need to know what compelled him!!! Bc goddamn I've NEVER met anyone who hates dolly parton. Sure, not everyone loves her or thinks her music is the best music ever, but hates her? enough to make a custom shirt and wear it out?

She is a shill for pharmaceutical companies.
2
u/zlahhan 2d ago edited 2d ago
Because she put less than 0.5% of her money into covid research in 2020, or is there more?
Anyway, this is wrong. This is a provocative shirt to mock the home team of Dolly Partons birthplace.
3
u/Fit_Job4925 3d ago
what did she do!

u/Warm_Drawing_1754 3d ago
Real answer is that his team is playing a Tennessee team, and Parton is an icon of that state

She sang Jolene. Just like the guy in the picture, I really really don't like that song. It's so whiny and i dont like the pitch.

100% true story.
Back in the early 2000’s I was playing online poker. Someone using the name Dolly Parton was at the table.
On one hand Dolly who had been playing as a nit raises pre flop.
I paused and said:
Let me guess, Dolly Parton has a big pair.

The bigger reddit gets, the worse it gets and the less each subreddit maintains its unique spirit.

I'm kinda down with this. Is that bad? I hate when cult of personalities show up and we all have to act like somebody is the coolest celeb ever. I hated the Bill Murray craze of the 2010s too.
