Discussion Dance resolutions
Do you make dance resolutions for the new year? Have you kept the ones from 2024? What are you looking to work on or try out in 2025?

Well I started about 1,5 year ago so I would say Im still kinda on the hype wave, but I simply want to keep getting better, which is something I definitely did this year. I have little “not entirely dance” related goal to loose weight so everything including dance is easier. Thats on the right path too so, all good here :)

I've been doing Lindy since 2016 and have told myself year after year that I need to learn Balboa, but there just aren't good opportunities to learn. I'm not good at learning on my own and the only options for private lessons are outside of my budget.
My hope is to work on either Balboa or Shag this year.

I will go to the social dance. I will go to the social dance, and I will have fun.
It's since March that I still have to find the courage to go. 2025 could be my year

I am terrified of being there. of people thinking I am hitting on them or, even worse, having the doubt that people want to dance with me because I am good looking. I prefer Charleston, and I have never developed the ability to refuse in general, so I fear that I won't be able to reject invitations. I wíll freeze and I would make the other person uncomfortable so I will. Is this normal? I've never properly been to a social night, only once but my ex was there with his boyfriend and it ruined it for me

For 2024, I wanted to come to our local socials every week except when I am travelling, sick or otherwise objectively cannot attend. I stuck with the resolution.

Europe, here I come. Manifesting that I will go dancing in Amsterdam, Utrecht, London, Cambridge, and two other cities I haven't yet picked out for autumn (open to suggestions).

European buddy here. Utrecht was my first scene <3 but I live in UK right now. If you check UK, Oxford and Edinburgh have also great Exchanges! I would absolutely recommend Cambridge, while London have everything but not weekender as far as I'm aware :)

What's the scene in Utrecht like?
I'm a beginner, and I'm planning a vacation in Utrecht in the spring. My vacation is not swing related - I just want to see the Netherlands - but I'd like to push myself and visit a social dance while I'm there.

I visited there earlier this year and went dancing at the kargadoor on a Wednesday night. It was fun although for a country with some of the tallest people in the world it was definitely the lowest ceilinged room I have ever danced in! People were happy to dance with me but not particularly chatty.

Awesome. I was thinking of just hanging out for a couple of weeks in early May in London and Cambridge to do the weekly dances and get a feel for the local scenes—which weekly dances would you recommend in London? I'm seeing a recurring Monday/Tuesday but it's a big city so I'd like the opinion of a local. I saw this dance in Cambridge which looks legit.

not the person you're replying to but the london listings page is here, there's stuff on most nights: https://www.swingoutlondon.co.uk/
my fave social nights are Wednesday in New Cross and anything at the Bishopsgate Institute, and if you're advanced people say very good things about Thursday night with Swingdance UK, but I never made it there.
if you do blues then the monthly blues at the ritzy is absolutely gorgeous.

I won't make any resolutions. But I only started this summer and are looking forward to another full year of dancing and expanding my skills.

My absolute top priority is to invest in my local scene in a way that fills me up (teaching beginner classes, organising social dancing, working together with other organizers in my scene).
Compete a little bit with a focus on dancing how I want to dance without being attached to the outcome.
Maybe work on a routine with a partner or group (groups are a pita though because it’s very rare to have everyone there at the same place, same time) and perform it

Learn lifts! I just started dating a beautiful young lady who is an incredible dancer, and the first person to be open do doing lifts with me…can’t wait!

I wanted to stretch after every social, and I absolutely did not do that.
