General Discussion/Questions Watching the 100m finals makes you really realise how insanely fast Usain Bolt was.

I mean obviously, the sky is blue obviously, he’s the greatest track athlete of all time. But seriously😭 his? 4th best ever 100m time I think would’ve won this finals which I think was by average, one of the top 3 fastest 100m finals ever.

All props to Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson for their 100m and I’m not trying to take anything away from their performances, they are blisteringly quick. But it just makes you wonder what sort of freak of nature Usain Bolt was😭

General Discussion/Questions Why do people not like/make fun of Noah Lyles?

I know absolutely nothing about track and field but after he won gold today I keep seeing a lot of tweets either hating on him or just kinda making fun of him and I can’t figure out why

General Discussion/Questions Who are the fastest athletes who haven't done sprinting?

I remember a comment on another subreddit about how Lebron James might win a 400m against Usain Bolt. Obviously this person was pretty far off but it got me wondering who might be the best potential sprinters that haven't been in an official race. I assume that NFL players would be among them but I would also be interested in which other sports. How fast do you imagine they might get (could be in a 400 not just 100)? I wouldn't mind entries that have been timed if it was when they were very young and you think they have improved noticeably. Sorry if this question has already been asked.

General Discussion/Questions Genetic gift

How does one know if they are genetically gifted with ‘sprint genes’ especially if only just starting sprinting later in life (say early - mid 20’s). Is this something that is discovered months or years into training?

General Discussion/Questions A question for US sprint fans. Why all the attention for Richardson and Lyles when Holloway and McLaughlin-Levrone exist?

No doubt that Noah and shacaari are fast, but they're not dominant in the way that the hype would have you think, Holloway and McLaughlin-Levrone on the other hand are truly in a class of their own.

General Discussion/Questions If you are a track athlete who wants to take the sport seriously and you genuinely dislike Noah Lyles and want him to fail, you might be an idiot.

Noah Lyles has generated much more buzz than any track athletes since Usain Bolt retired, he’s outspokenly asked for track and field athletes not to be treated (as they commonly are), like tertiary athletes and foils to basketball players etc. (Anthony Edwards situation), he’s spoken on creating better opportunities and incomes through sponsorships for track and field athletes.

You can dislike the way he’s gone about doing things, but what does wanting him to lose to someone like Tyreek Hill do for you other than provide momentary satisfaction, in the wider scope it just degrades the integrity and credibility of the sport if the ‘Fastest Man on Earth’ loses to a NFL player who just so happens to be quick.

Every sport has massive ‘Heel’ figures, people who come off as arrogant and self important which create buzz and attention to the sport. Football has Cristiano Ronaldo, Basketball has Michael Jordan, Tennis has Kyrgios. Noah Lyles can be that figure for the sport yet he’s being antagonised and put down by people within his own sport.

If the desire for the sport to become a more sustainable profession for athletes is what we want, then I think it should be a no brainer to embrace that side of his personality

General Discussion/Questions Racing a Coworker next week. Tips?

We’re doing a fun office race, me and a coworker. From one end of the parking lot to the other. Maybe 1/4-1/2 a regular track length. Some healthy smack talk and $100 on the line. The rest of the office will watch.

I’m 32, I lift and run/do sprints in my free time already. But I was never a star athlete and I’m only 5’7”.

My coworker ran track in college and was pretty fast. He is 40 now, but to my knowledge hasn’t ran in years. Looking at him he still looks to be in great shape. He is about 6’2” or so and long legs.

He’s got the physical advantage and the office is rooting for him but im looking to provide an upset.

Any tips on how I can best prepare in this short amount of time?

UPDATE: I won!

General Discussion/Questions Why wasn’t Marcell Jacobs embraced by track and field?

When he won the Olympics in 2021 it was definitely overlooked and he was barely the topic of the conversation once he won. It seems like he was onky embraced by his home country italy.Outside of Italy he was definitely overlooked why ?

General Discussion/Questions How late is it for me to become fastest guy in my city

I am 17 y old and pretty much nailed to gaming chair til recently when i started lifting. Now i want to start sprinting and running because i dont have any stamina, speed and explosiveness at all which affect any other sports i do.

I asked couple of guys who train football and other sports in my school and they say its pretty late to become faster than people who trained all their lifes sports and i didnt run in years of puberty.

I find it stupid because they are not training HIIT or doing specifically cardio just running after ball.

I just want to know is this bullshit and should i even try? How possible is it to smoke them in 2-3 months, i would run til death every week for that goal. Thanks.

General Discussion/Questions Why hasn’t there been alot of elite sprinters over the height of 6’3 ?

I know the height of 6'4+ is rare amongst the general population of people but it's not extremely rare. After Bolt I expected to see more 6'4+ sprinters but they are extremely underrepresented in sprinters especially 100 meters runners why is this ? Most elite 100 meter sprinters these days are only 5'11-6'1. Is being extremely tall generally a disadvantage was Usain Bolt that much of a outlier

General Discussion/Questions I currently run 10.4 clean. Will steroids help me get to 9.9?

My situation is that I've been running for about 7 years and I've reached a kind of plateau runing 10.4 to 10.5 for the last 3 years. I've held back my normal career and earning potential for sprinting and I'm considering retiring after this year.

However one thing I haven't tried yet is performance enhancers. I run in a country where it is easily obtainable and the testing is not good enough so I won't get caught.

I'm not here to debate about the moral or health effects of steroids, just to ask if anyone has experience with steroids or knows anyone who does and how much it improved their 100m time.

General Discussion/Questions Most amount of time you have shaved off in one year in the 100m?

I am 19 years old running for a small d3 college. I messed around in highschool and did not take it seriously so I only managed to go from 12.3-11.9. I got the chance to run in a d3 college and figured it would be fun. With serious training I managed to go from 11.9-11.5 within 5 months and I feel that I have a lot left in me to drop the time even more. This got me thinking what is the most amount of time someone has dropped in a year and what is realistic. Whats the most amount of time yall have shaved off in the 100?

General Discussion/Questions How crazy is it to try to be an olympic sprinter in your 30s

AI told me about Justin Gatlin and Kim Collins which gives me some hope. Other people commenting on reddit seem to think there is no hope if you can’t run a 10 second 100m before college. Thoughts?

General Discussion/Questions Even after training ran even slower im a failure

Even after training the whole summer I still didn't improve on my 100m time. I have never been athletic and alway envy those who are, but I thought if I work hard enough I can get somewhere near them. When I first started running track I ran a 13.7 then the next year I ran a 12.9, the whole summer I just work out and even after that I somehow became worse running a 13.1 in today time trial, not even good enough to make the highschool team. I just feel so disgusted with myself, it just feel like everthing I do isnt good enough. There going to be another time trial January 18 but now it just like what am I even doing with my life, but yea just a reality check.

General Discussion/Questions Coach says I shouldn't go to gym

My coach said that if I go to the gym and start weightlifting, I would put on weight and not get faster however I'm 60% sure he just said that so I don't lift slow like a bodybuilder i.e Deep Squats of 3 set/10 reps and perhaps hurt myself. The thing is I know how my body is, and I just can't generate power. I don't know how to explain it but I'm not powerful but I'm quite elastic. Like my standing vertical jump is 23inches but my max vert is 34 inches off of one leg (I don't know if thats a good example). I got elastic tendons possibly from 3 years of pylos. So, if I got my hamstrings and glutes stronger in the gym I should be able to get faster times this season. Or should I listen to my coach and put gym off till next year.
