It's why Ron Paul, and RFK Jr, and Tulsi Gabbard, and a host of independents and democrats came out for Trump

lol, still waiting for a democrat to be named.

117

u/IcyMike1782 Nov 23 '24

I guess if they want to call Kevin Sorbo and Kid Rock "stars" for Trump, no less appropriate than this roster being "democrats"

135

u/FifteenthPen Nov 23 '24

TBF, Tulsi Gabbard was a Democrat until 2022. She's still not exemplary of the Democrats though considering she's got Putin's hand up her ass.

u/Ok_Dog_4059 Nov 23 '24

Wasn't Trump democrat for much of his life or is my brain failing me again.

116

u/CombustiblSquid Nov 23 '24

He was but the thing all these side switchers have in common is that they are self serving grifters. As soon as tides turn they will follow the grift. Also they both have a decent amount of racist beliefs in their past, another commonality.

24

u/Ok_Dog_4059 Nov 23 '24

Makes sense. Honestly I had to go double check if that was factual or not I couldn't remember for sure. Looks like he went 3rd party for a while as well.

34

u/CombustiblSquid Nov 23 '24

He was actually a donor for the Clintons back then too. We live in a weird time line.

26

u/KalmiaKamui Nov 23 '24

He was a donor to Kamala Harris herself during her AG campaign in California years ago.

32

u/Right-Monitor9421 Nov 23 '24

As Orange Shitler was in NYC which is heavily Democrat leaning it was beneficial for him to be a Democrat in order to grease palms and deal with unions.

21

u/russellvt Nov 23 '24

I think Trump is/was "whomever will give him a platform," to be fair.

There were reports, prior to his administration, that he "ran on the easiest ticket" to get power. /shrug

18

u/fieldsofanfieldroad Nov 23 '24

If you listen to Scaramucci, he explains that him, Trump and most business people have/had connections to politicians of both sides because they want to be able to make money no matter who's in charge. "I'm playing both sides so I always come out on top." Pivotally that changed for Trump when he went from businessman to politician.

7

u/LaCharognarde Nov 23 '24

Back when he was trying to ingratiate himself with the upper crust in a blue state, yes. He's always been a bigoted douche, though. And he has no real principles.

4

u/Gavorn Nov 23 '24

He donated to Hillary when she was in the senate.

3

u/New-acct-for-2024 Nov 23 '24

Not really that much of his life - several years in the 2000s, not even a decade. He was a Republican for far longer both before and after (plus brief stints in the Reform Party and as an Independent)

2

u/zSprawl Nov 23 '24

Yep because he used to just tweet shit and wanted to be loved. Then when he ran for President, he realized the easier ones to grift were conservative. Dude has no political or moral compass.

18

u/jmd709 Nov 23 '24

She played a Democrat for a bit in order to be elected. Idk anything about her while she was running in the 2020 Primary. Then 3 Republican voters at different times mentioned her specifically as the only Democrat they liked. They liked a Republican while thinking she was a Democrat.

17

u/Velissari Nov 23 '24

Wasn’t she the only dem to abstain from the impeachment vote way back in 2019 or whatever?

13

u/jmd709 Nov 23 '24

Yep, the lone “present” vote for both articles like an expert fence sitter, but 3 Democrats voted no on one and 2 voted no on the other.

10

u/IndexMatchXFD Nov 23 '24

Tulsi was raised in a cult and given a mission to amass as much political power as possible. That meant being a Democrat in Hawaii, but once she hit the national stage and got throughly rejected in the primaries, she switched parties because republicans are easier to grift.

I do not believe she has any real morals or principles other than gaining power that she can wield to benefit her cult.

1

u/cybercuzco Nov 23 '24

Trump was a Democrat until 2008.

3

u/New-acct-for-2024 Nov 23 '24

Only starting in 2001, though.

He was a Republican in the 80s and 90s, then became Reform Party briefly, then Democratic for a few years, then Independent briefly, then back to the GOP.

9

u/Hot-Bat8798 Nov 23 '24

I forgot Ron Paul was still alive.

4

u/SmartieCereal Nov 23 '24

Still waiting for almost his entire first cabinet, including his own VP, to be named.

-13

u/russellvt Nov 23 '24

still waiting for a democrat to be named.

I mean, you realize that RFK Jr is a former Democrat, right?

Not to mention, Trump managed to flip several states this past election from their previous Blue affiliations.

Also, something like 15 Democrats voted to "give Trump more power" is his upcoming administration... though, I think that was earmarked for Harris.

TLDR; "Lots of things flipped" this year or so, for one reason or another.

14

u/koviko Nov 23 '24

The label one chooses doesn't matter compared to the things they very openly and publicly believe, though.

-1

u/russellvt Nov 23 '24

thatsthepoint.jpg

But, the comment that I responded to was talking about labels, to which there are pretty clear "easy" examples.

u/Ranma-chan Nov 23 '24

According to an idiot the other day, Democrats lost the election because we pointed out Nazis(that literally called themselves Nazis) that associate themselves with the Republicans.

Also, we bother to pay attention and be educated is another factor in Democrats losing the election.

49

u/jmd709 Nov 23 '24

I think we need to start being honest about why we lost. They had the upper hand by having a convicted felon on the top of the ticket. There is no way there could have been a higher quality candidate than that.

23

u/Killfile Nov 23 '24

Dems lost because they belive people do and ought to pay attention to politics. They don't. Trump ran a campaign that very simple, very disengaged people could understand. He pointed out things that were bothering them (inflation) and said he'd solve them.

Now, his solutions are dumb and won't work, but disengaged people don't know that.

Harris ran a campaign for policy wonks and people who value democracy as a political system. You can't beat populism that way if most people are tuned out of politics.

19

u/jmd709 Nov 23 '24

Double standards were also part of that.

Trump’s policy plan was, “tariffs” and “not Project 2025”, but Harris’s was, “she doesn’t have a policy plan” because every single detail wasn’t included.

“She won’t sit down for an interview!” Meanwhile, Trump was only doing interviews with rightwing media and declined or canceled the others.

Bernie’s age would have been a major handicap but he is really good at focusing on simplified versions of what voters want to hear (with zero regard for the reality those things won’t pass in Congress. He and Biden tried.).

9

u/VegetableOk9070 Nov 23 '24

Putin election rigging helps too I hear.

108

u/chrisnlnz Nov 23 '24

Ah yes it is the LGBTQ+ community who are the fascists for not tolerating the good Christians who just want to hate them and trample their rights in peace.

It sure is weird how nobody ever calls me a Nazi. Wonder why that could be.

(Ok, I have been called a Nazi, but only when a Nazi is having a hissy fit because I called them out. I don't think "no u" counts.)

74

u/CombustiblSquid Nov 23 '24

I'm still convinced that the major reason the Dems lost this election is simply because they were the incumbents after covid. This is a trend seen all across the world in democracies right now. It doesn't matter the party or what they tried. Basically all incumbents are either being voted out or winning by smaller margins.

53

u/cilantro_so_good Nov 23 '24

Eh, my theory is that people in general have very short memories and are actually not very smart

10

u/CombustiblSquid Nov 23 '24

I'm sure that factors into the trend. Humans aren't well known for considering nuance.

12

u/witteefool Nov 23 '24

If it were by popular vote, as it should be, we might still be awaiting the results. A good half of this country tried to buck the international trend. I hope that means something and we get through this.

4

u/Odd_Advantage_3370 Nov 23 '24

I have advocated for the popular vote since I was about 10.

4

u/chaos8803 Nov 23 '24

Turn out was lower too. But several states had a hissy-fit after Biden won and made it harder to vote by mail, early, or via absentee ballot.

5

u/happymasquerade Nov 23 '24

You’re on to something there. Also during Chump’s first term covid isolating led to some unique price drops on things like gas (because no one was fucking leaving their house…) and there were stimulus checks (which he demanded to have his name on). So people associate chump with those things instead of, I don’t know, taking context into the picture, and they don’t care about anything else. At all. It’s just ignorance mostly. And I don’t care if I sound like a liberal asshole, I probably am. Chump supporters are fucking morons or rich pricks

-2

u/Rena1- Nov 23 '24

Maybe this election, but it isn't only losing the elections, all the progressist group is only reacting to absurd news, we're not proposing improvements, only defending the scraps we got, this won't be enough to keep the youth from joining right wing groups, there's no "dream" to reach like the right have (a shitty and fake one, but still looks better than keeping things as is).

25

u/jackfaire Nov 23 '24

Every conversation like that I end up saying "LIed to by the people you voted for because they're the ones saying "We're going to do (proceeds to describe fascism"

29

u/Weedes1984 Nov 23 '24 edited Nov 23 '24

Insufferably dumb. The most dangerous people are the stupid ones as evil people tend to only hurt others while stupid people hurt others and themselves.

This is from Dietrich Bonhoeffer theory of stupidity, in which he also argues that stupidity is worse than evil because stupidity can be manipulated and used by evil.

13

u/Thinn0ise Nov 23 '24

Sufficiently advanced ignorance is indistinguishable from malice.

24

u/Holly_Goloudly Nov 23 '24

“You’re banning ideas” claims the person who supports a party that bans books, bans LGTBQ+, identities, bans drag performances, bans trans people from bathrooms, bans abortions, bans gender-affirming care for minors, bans critical race theory, bans any politician who dare criticize their BELOVED LEADER.

11

u/robinaw Nov 23 '24

At this point, it’s hardly worth arguing about it. They think T* is great, and we’ll all be happy.

So, from now on, every horrible consequence of their horrible policies needs to be laid at their feet.

2

u/Odd_Advantage_3370 Nov 23 '24

But we all still suffer from it.

11

u/benlucky13 Nov 23 '24

"you want my friends dead or deported"

bbbbut "you want us banned and deplatformed!" they screech as if the two are equivalent

12

u/Bluedel Nov 23 '24

"your party wants to kill or deport my loved ones and me"

"'no, YOU'RE the real fascists, because you want us banned from social media"

7

u/kfish5050 Nov 23 '24

This is just like the other day when someone made the argument that supporting Palestine is anti-semitic and fascist. But they're clearly islamophobic and fascist for supporting Trump's "final solution" suggestion to Israel. Ultimately it came down to if you support Israel you're a fascist but if you don't support Israel you're a fascist.

4

u/JellyKron Nov 23 '24

The Left calls MAGA a cult. The Right, not knowing the what the word means, immediately hits back with "I know you are but what am I?!"

4

u/LaCharognarde Nov 23 '24

And as I've said a few times tonight? It's a near-certainty that red nonetheless responds with baffled indignation to being judged by the content of their character.

5

u/sali_nyoro-n Nov 23 '24

Ah yes, noted mild-mannered centrist Ron Paul. Surely he should have been a lock for Harris.

RFK Jr. is also a weird one to name-drop. Most people just know him as "that crazy anti-vaxxer who had his brain eaten by a worm", and that description alone makes it clear he'd sooner endorse Trump than a Democrat.
