What is happening? We are considering purchasing a house zoned to this school

The school is very old and would require a lot of rework or a new building to bring it up to current standards. Enrollment is also low because this part of the area does not have any type of density other than some small multifamily that feed into it.

It simply does not make sense for Fulton to keep this going when other elementary schools like Ison can easily handle the additional students.

Spaulding is an excellent school, it’s smaller size has allowed it to be very tight knit and run very well but that won’t matter. I hope that parents are able to save it, but realistically I don’t see that happening. The best thing that can happen is if enough parents organize and apply for it to be a charter. They’ll be a lot of loops and a lot of $ to do that so I also don’t see that happening.

All that being said, you’ll most likely pay a bit of a premium on a house in that area today because it’s still zoned there, but you’ll end up at a lower performing school for the reasons mentioned above.
