Recovery FROM psychedelics?
Hi all,
U.K. based fella here. Just been curious about this for a while. I’m a couple years since being completely - I’ll call it ‘obsessed’ - with the DMT experience. Acid and 2CB have been a huge part of that too.
I know many people consider these substances a bit of a saving grace - and I agree. However taking it too far has seen me wrestle with all kinds of psychological conditions. I’m happy to say I’ve avoided anything schizophrenic so I’m lucky there.
I suppose my question is, does anyone have experience with joining recovery groups FOR psychedelics? And not for my own recovery, I consider myself essentially on the other side of it. I would jump at the chance to speak to people who may be struggling, or who don’t know where to turn with stopping or even realising why they’re feeling dissociated. In my experience over use of these substances has destroyed aspects of it that I used to hold dear. Don’t get me wrong I love these compounds, I have had some extraordinary experiences - but I have noticed a real lack of informed, anecdotal evidence for making sure the user has the best trip possible.
I’ll post this in a couple places but thought I’d start here.
Cheers for reading, any response welcome. Peace and love ay x

What did you struggle with?

There’s a bit of a timeline..
These are by age 17-19: mdma/ecstasy - about a year straight 20-22: Acid 23-24: DMT (and 2CB) 25-27: cocaine (ongoing)
Really the part that I want to disclose is my.. journey? Struggle? Experience.. with DMT. I just know how close I was to falling off the edge and I thank those closest to me for bringing me back.

It sounds like you need help with your cocaine addiction

We’re working on it, I’m in recovery - clean 2 months now and going strong. Just made me think how I can possibly give back to others struggling - of course it’s going to be a battle for me but the worst has already been fought. There’s a lot of information on getting clean with Cocaine, I’m just curious about the lesser spoken about ‘addictions’

Go to groups and share about your cocaine addiction. There's more information out there, but information alone isn't gonna help people stay clean. Personal relatable stories are. And keep your psychedelics experiences to yourself in those groups.
I've done every single one of the substances you mentioned in the past, and I agree that a few of them really helped me at the point I did them. I overdid them a little, as is normal for an addict, but that's not really possible long-term for anyone making these experiences. So people don't usually need help getting clean from psychedelics as they usually reach their natural conclusion.
Focus on the destructive shit you've just done to yourself. Tell people what doing cocaine did to you. Maybe you can get clean for good that way. I feel like you're only "going strong" right now because you're fondly remembering the psychedelics. You're still thinking about drugs all day.

In 20 years of drug abuse, including a few years dealing LSD, I've only met a handful of people who would say they struggled with psychadelics, and only 1 person who had issues with DMT. It's pretty rare, and usually these aren't the typical sorts of addiction issues that can be helped by going to group therapy.
