Since our first ever cat (Joseph) tragically died at only 8 years old a few months ago it was so quiet at home and I dreaded coming home every time. Stepping into the room and not being greeted by a meow and a leg hug like I was used to was so painful. Slowly but surely I started looking at rescue profiles of local organizations. We fell in love with this 1,5 year old pirate boy and decided to name him Tony. We've had him for 2 weeks now and he's adjusted so quickly! He's on my lap while I'm writing this and we couldn't be happier. He's very adventurous and silly and has really long toes. 😅🥰

I posted some time back, when my cat was 6 months old - his enucleation site had developed an abscess post-op and then he just never healed after that. I wanted to make an update with some good news! Felix spent 3 months in the cone in total, but after a course of steroids and antibiotics, he could finally safely be without the cone and did not reinjure himself. And now he's a handsome man of 10 months.
He has poopy problems since his antibiotics and I just had to give him a bath at 4AM today, send help for me 🙃 Despite that, I love him so much and I am so thankful for those of you who commented to share the stories of your pirate kitties who also had difficult recovery stories - this helped me advocate for Felix and it was due to me insisting that he got the treatment that ultimately helped him finally heal.

This my cat Cricket, I have had him and his brother Boots (non-pirate cat) for going on 1 1/2 years now. They turn 2 in March and are the best cats and I love them whole heartedly. They have strong personalities, and are bonded. Cricket never had vision in his other eye and had is removed as a kitten due to discomfort, only imposition it causes now is trying to hunt flying insects lol :)

This is Nebu, my gorgeous pirate kitty who I rescued from Egypt. The charity I rescued her from strictly told me she is to be an indoor cat (or escape proof catio). She is the most amazing curious and funny cat l've ever met and as time went on, she didn't seem too fussed about going outside (I imagine she associates the outdoors with terror and losing her eye). I try my hardest to play with her often, and give her all the toys she could imagine and she is rarely ever home alone (family works from home).
Nevertheless, the guilt of keeping her indoors and denying her the whole "cat experience" is eating me up alive. I've started losing sleep over this and dreaming about her frolicking around outdoors. That being said, the anxiety of having a partially sighted cat outdoors (even in the rural area I live in) is also a massive contributor. She not only has one eye, but the eye she does have has some massive corneal scarring. I want her to live a happy and free life and I feel like her captor (even though she seems fine with it).
I have tried putting her in a harness but her slightly feral self won't have it. I've decided to try again once it's spring again.
I just don't know what to do, hence this weird autobiographical rant. Does anyone else feel the same?
P.s. please don't comment just to tell me what an awful selfish person I am for keeping her indoors. Don't you worry, l've thought and told myself far worse than that.

Salem is a good boy who was originally feral, until he got into multiple cat/opossum fights and then got hit by a car. After multiple vet visits and bills, he lost his outside privileges.

They are about 7 months old and we move at the end of the week. I am curious if I should be concerned about them falling and if I should take any precautions. I have seen two possible solutions. One is putting up a few nets in case they fall. The other is to add shelving so there are tiers and they can get to a lower elevation before they drop down.

Hello, this is little Una. I adopted her about 6 months ago from the shelter, as she was the sweetest little pirate kitten. She turned out to be more spicy and energetic than at first, but I’m glad she feels safe to be herself now. Clearly, (her) bed is the favourite spot 👑

Hi, my cat needs to have his left eye removed, he's 5 years old and the best friend you could imagine. I rescued him when he was 1½ old, was love at first sight. His eye already had a problem back then but I never thought this would be the outcome. I really don't know how to cope with fear and guilt right now, and I'm looking for advice if you could give me some. I'm feeling paralyzed and surgery will be in less than a week.
Pd: first pic was taken last Thursday after we got from the vet with the especialist diagnosis.

just discovered this sub and this boy obviously is a perfect fit. We adopted him in 2020 from the humane society and he was awaiting surgery for his eye when we got him. He has some kind of birth defects. he’s very… special. he also seems to have a death wish for the number of times he’s escaped the house and had run-ins with the neighborhood hawks. (we don’t let him out- he’s just a lil houdini)
