Ps3 slim vertical?
Is it ok to put a ps3 slim vertical or will it negatively affect the console?

There’s a genuine Sony stand available for the slim, to make standing it vertically safer. Here’s a pic of mine on its stand

I put all of mine vertical. There's really nothing to lose other than scratching up the glossy side.

The paste will melt downward.

Not if the cooler is secured correctly. Otherwise every pc would do the same. If this was a ps5 with liquid metal I wouldn't go vertical but for a ps3 slim with actual thermal paste it's fine.

You have a vertical stand on it literally in this picture, why would those exist oficially from sony if the console wasn't thoroughly tested to operate vertically?

I was just kinda scared bc of what people were saying like that one guy saying “the thermal paste would melt downwards”

I don't know why they said that, but just think about the fact that a large of CPU's are vertical, and thermal paste, is meant to transfer heat, wouldn't it be very bad if if it melted when it got hot? Yes right? Hence why it's paste, paste doesn't move. Maybe they got it confused with Liquid metal which can leak, as it's a liquid like the name implies but it's a completely different thing that has nothing to do with Playstation consoles execpt PS5 and PS5 pro.
I hope it doesn't sound like i'm talking down on you, but in situations like this a little knowledge and common sense can answer most of your own questions for you.

That is the best position for a PS3 or any console because the bottom of the PS3 horizontally gets hotter when it comes into contact with the surface where you put it, vertically that does not happen and therefore the PS3 gets less hot. In addition, it takes up less space and receives greater air flow.

There’s no real affect. Though, when I put mine vertical in the past, I made sure the left side was on the bottom. This is how you’ve done it and so it’s grand. The fan is on the left side so by putting it your way, there would be no airflow challenges

'Tis fine to run a slim vertical. The only thing to note is that one of my slims likes to scratch the label of discs when it's vertical. Airflow isn't even really hurt.

All of my consoles have been standing up vertically for years.
It's fine.

I personally can recognize the difference it makes when keeping the console cooler than horizontal

Are you saying the console stays cooler in a horizontal or vertical position?

For me my setup is right in the middle of the room against the wall so there's good airflow on both sides so when I put it vertical the fan wouldn't start spinning so fast after an hour. When it was horizontal it would get really hot and not function right. Other people say it doesn't make a difference but for me it definitely does.

It doesnt matter, don’t believe the jackasses that say it reduces airflow
