Seeing how dusty it is… looks like you don’t take care of your things… no wonder it has issues.

so by cover not working, I am assuming it means that it doesnt get latched on and opens again because of the spring? So…you could have just removed that spring? Why would you leave something so sensitive like a laser reader open to dust? There is a reason almost all consoles/players have automatic cd injection trays, because they have better dust protection.

The laser might be shot. Also try holding the cover in closed position to see if it spins.

Are you talking about PS3 games aka blu ray discs? or a normal CD/DVD disc? if so then the laser for the cd/dvd is broken however if it cant read any discs then its a problem with the drive itself replacement parts are cheap to find on aliexpress be aware they come without the metal frame for the optical drive
heres a helpful guide on replacing the drive

Just by looking at it a good deep cleaning is in order. It doesn’t take much for a laser to stop reading discs and it could be dirt and grime and also possibly the laser is getting weak.

save and buy a cheap spare part and from the spare you get the reader and more parts for your ps3

Doesn’t the super slims lid need to stay shut to work? Pretty sure mine does. Throw this junk out and buy another, there cheap af.

addressing the eliPHONT in the room...just jailbreak it with hen, in the meantime just to use it.I would do this.
When you get it sorted just make backups of your games and use the bkups on hdd
