Should I focus on a banner? Should I farm something? What should I do to have a great start on the game?

I don't know man I don't mobile game much other than playing magics app or some random others. The reason why I'm saying this about this game is that it's only good for pulling characters and that's about it. The early gameplay is dead because you get end game characters from the start so there no challenge from day 1 and you'll spend more time managing your box/upgrading/researching and building teams than you will actually playing the game. It was a good game before but it's on life support from whales.

It has really generous drops, AMAZING art and actually challenging gameplay stuff and the grind isn’t bad.
It also collabs a lot with series like Persona, DMC, Nier, Full metal and etc
There is a Nier collab Right now

To be honest i would uninstall the game... This game was great years ago (loved it) and is all about pulling new boosted units now. There is no way to keep up with the speed new characters get released, except if you start spending regularly. There isn't much content either.... As someone who played a bunch of gacha and mobile games i sadly have to say that OPTC turned into one of the worst gacha games i ever played...

There's been a bug since the end of halloween event that make world map load endlessly, almost month have passed and the devs still haven't fixed it.
I believe it only affects mobile version, the steam one is fine as far as I know. Been frustrated ever since about it, i'd probably would've made so much progress by now. Especially considering you can a get new op unit there.

Uninstall.
I never recommended this game anymore since Yoshi took over as producer. When the game create legends for specific mode(like Kizuna-only Legend), I know that the game loses their passion or love and basically just milking their fanbase.
I used to play this game religiously ... even set up my alarm to wake up at 4 AM just for turtle time. Veteran players share this painful memories.
Nowadays ... login, do my gem quests, and if I want, I play the current mode, either TM, Kizuna, or whatever. All legend units(basically top-tier units) just feel the same for me .... no more excitement when pulling legend ...except for speed-farming.

It's a shame how bad the game has become over the years but you can still enjoy it if you NEVER do the exp missions before you get either jack or marco that gives you 2x xp when they are captain. Otherwise you'll be bored quickly and regret getting a big xp boosting captain after clearing all cp boost events.
If you don't want to wait to get either one, just ask someone to add you with jack or marco as captain to get th least 2x xp and your best xp giving captain.
Also just enjoy the game as it is. The modes you unlock with xp are really fun. The xp isn't.

Delete the game its honestly dog shit. Been playing since STR arlong was king & this is easily the worst it's ever been. They've basically been recycling content the entirety of the wano arc & you have to grind your life away if you want decent rewards rewards in any of the events.
The worst thing by far in the game is the lack of content & the way new characters become almost worthless in events they weren't specifically made for. Of all the long running gachs of the top anime optc sucks the most by far imo.

But if you want to take things easy and play at your own pace, just do chopperman missions and so story mode, New years should have a decent banner where you can try to get a good unit. I can't honestly recommend the game in its current state. But if you are a masochist and want to play it anyway, your first goal should be to build up the free strawhat units you get from extra island and the PKA game mode. They are boosted in nearly every piece of content and provide a fairly nice spread of abilities to get into the game.

I spent over 10k on this game. It's the only game to ever get me addicted like that, and it does it by being completely awful if you don't have the latest and greatest units. I managed to quit spending about 5 years back, completely F2P now, and I am so, so far behind all the P2W players in all the events. I really loved it back when it launched, but it's really, really, really P2W now, and there's next to no new content.
If you want to play, then play, but there are other games out there that is more worthy of your time.

Gacha games mainly. I've played Grand Cross, Brave Souls, DB Legends and Ninja Voltage.
2
u/Nattsang Nov 16 '23
Lately I've been playing a lot of SSSnaker, but it takes a little while to get to the gacha part - its a bit like Survivor.io, if you ever played that. There's Rise To War, if you're a lotr fan. Both of these are gacha games, but not really gacha focused, if you know what I mean. Other than that I like the eminence in shadow game as well as the isekai slime game.

u/XtendedImpact Nov 16 '23
Epic Seven is good if you don't need an anime as a base. Very high animation quality, original characters and story, decently F2P. Similar gameplay to Summoner's War if you're familiar wit that. It's definitely a "main game" though because it requires a ton of farming, although the farm itself runs in an auto mode with up to 30 repeats.

u/WorkerMysterious343 Promising Rookie Nov 18 '23 edited Nov 18 '23
Get One Piece Bounty Rush. It's a gacha game but actually has 3d action gameplay with RPG elements to developing your collection. You actually control one character and fight with their special moves and forms. The primary game mode is online 4v4 capture the flag, but there are other online and offline modes as well. Really fun actually playing against other ppl in real time, even if the meta does get cheesy at times.

Anyone who says uninstall it is an A-hole. Clearly you like One Piece and want to play a mobile game that speaks to it. Those same people would say to stop watching the anime cause of an Arc they didn't like. Or stop playing the card game cause of the current meta.
Play the story bro. While you're doing that, participate in events that you feel comfortable with units to tackle them. Check out some YouTube Channels like Toadski who provides opinionated but thought provoking legends you'll want to look for on your way to King of Pirates.
Welcome to OPTC NAKAMA!

4
u/ironreddeath F2P no RR's Nov 16 '23
There is a huge difference between saying don't touch the game because it bastardizes the feeling of One Piece and has become a shitty cash grab, and some rando saying drop the anime or manga because an arc was bad.
4
u/aue_l Nov 16 '23
How are the game and the anime related ? And what arguments do you have to support a game that has been going worse for years now ? The people you call A-hole have arguments. You don't have one, except your weird statement about the anime....
But hey, you have a good advice : watch whales videos who talk about the new legends that you can't get except by spending tons of money. Legends that are more and more often limited, and sometimes extra limited. And you forget to talk about getting 9 dupes of a legend to compete with others, or how much you can struggle if you don't pull for the boosters useful for 5 days....

I would recommend pulling on the Beginner's Banner with all the gems you have. Beginner's Banner OPTC You should Login Daily to get a Free Amazing Unit, Gems and Tickets that you can use for more banners. Rookie Login Rewards Farm the Story for Gems, If it gets repetitive then try playing Pirate King Adventures, Events, Pvp, Treasure Map etc.
Have Fun!

u/Practical-Cut-7301 Promising Rookie Nov 16 '23 edited Nov 16 '23
If you haven't gotten an objective answer yet, here it is.
Optc is good, a lot of fun, really tricky. It's like a puzzle game where the pieces to complete the puzzle are some of the thousands of units in the game. Which can make certain events tough or un doable if you don't have units that can negate certain enemy effects. It's not that big a deal, very gacha like, and there's like a shit ton of f2ps to fill the gaps in your teams.
The problems start in the direction of the devs. A lot of the main content (Rumble/Kizuna/Pka//Grand Party) are ladder based content. I.e. they're pvp focused ranking systems. Which isn't an issue. The issue lies in the fact that every 2 weeks or so, they drop a new banner with new units. And those new units will be are far more beneficial in the latest pvp content. Whether they have boosted stats/effects or just increase your points gained by a multiplyer. So if you didn't summon that latest unit of the last 2 weeks, you won't get as far as you did last time in the ladder, since you will be actively receiving way less points due to either just having a much lower multiplyer or a team that just takes longer to clear the content since it isn't optimal. (Which why play a game that actively seeks to regress your potential with each new release. )
It's not a big deal until you realize that you have to have either 10s of millions of points for all the rewards, or grind 100s of turtles (or wtv the respective grind is for the event). So you have to grind like crazy to be on the same level of dudes who just summoned more than you and are getting bonuses like there's no tomorrow (very whale gaming mentality)
I started about a month and a half ago, and the units I summoned for when I began are about to be cycled out of those bonus rotations within this month.
Now the games not all bad. And I do enjoy it, but doing any amount of research into its history shows the direction its going isn't favorable. They are getting more and more pay to win, less and less f2p. There are pretty much no new events (unless you look at Pka relatively since it came out this year). The events that do exist just have you repeating the same exact thing, sometimes 30 times. So, there's no side content in the form of missions or challenges. Other than missions being attributed to events (Garps Challenges) that stopped being produced a long time ago (its not current content).
I like this game, but I quickly realized it had to be a back burner game and not my "new" gacha game.
The stones the game gives aren't actually shit if you do EVERY piece of ladder content and events that are timed. (I.e. login bonuses/celebration bonuses) you can get many stones over time without realizing it.
It's just that you can get shafted for a month straight on new units. And find you underperform in all ladder content for that time.
Now, if you play for a long time, some of these issues go away since your character box will be fleshed out. But nothing is going to change the fact that whales have way more of a bonus on top of you than in other gachas where whales can have bonuses.
Edit: I have to add, though, that the games actually really fun and I'm hanging on to it hoping they are going in a better direction what with all the "latest" updates (Collection/Pka/TM changes/etc.. f2p 5+Luffy <3<3)

u/broke_and_famous Hello. Nov 16 '23
The game follows a monthly cycle with a new banner attached to each game mode:
- Pirate King Adventure -> Treasure Map -> Kizuna -> PvP Finals -> Grand Party
Pirate King Adventure (PKA):
Is an event with time gated stamina in which you need to get 500 turtles in 2 weeks. It is not hard getting the 500 turtles but it forces you to play each day because of the time gated stamina.
The biggest problem with this game mode is the tickets. For a veteran player that has played for years the tickets are ok. But if you are a new player it will take you years to get all the units there. And you want to get the units because some are extremely useful. Especially when starting out.
This is also the only place to farm Cola after it was super accessible for years in every other game mode.
Treasure Map (TM)
Can either be stupid easy or extremely difficult. When you start out you go to the easiest league, East Blue, where the bosses have basically no mechanics. The middle league, Grand Line, can be difficult for newer players due you lacking enough units and some bosses being difficult. The last league, New World, can be hell for newer players. The bosses have some incredibly annoying mechanics and as the time goes on they get more and more annoying.
When it was first released the game mode was fun and it allowed people to use all sorts of different units but as time went on the boosted list went to shit and the bosses became more and more difficult. Forcing you to use lower boosted units or to pull on the TM Sugo.
This is the only place to farm for Limit Break materials and this game is only available for 4 days a month. This game has also been out for 6 years now. People complain about the Limit Break materials problem for years now but Bandai does nothing.
It will take you years to get the old units previously released in this game. Which you need to get because they can be useful in future TM maps.
Kizuna
This is where you use your strongest teams and where whales show off.
This game has the worst reward system out of any other game mode. It takes up a lot of play time to get all the rewards for that Kizuna. And just like TM this game mode is only here for 4 days.
To get all the old rewards it takes literal years. This is another problem people complain about on a regular basis but Bandai does absolutely nothing.
The Super Boss was fun when it first started but Bandai has added more annoying mechanics and nerfing the rewards. Making this more of a Whale fight since regular folks will hit the 2 billion HP early and struggle to deal lots of damage.
PvP Finals
PvP is just an RNG game mode where you let your units fight. Even if you have a perfect understanding of the game mode RNG will screw you. And remember this is a gacha.
There is a huge difference between level 99 and level 150 units. And to get to level 150 it requires duplicate of units and a metric ton of turtles.
The PvP island is horrible. It will take you years to max out the important facilities. This game mode was released like 4 years ago and it is just now that hardcore whales are starting to max out all the facilities. Let alone a F2P player.
The rewards suck but it is an easy thing to do. So people don't complain much.
Grand Party (GP):
It is currently the most hated game mode in the game.
It's another PvP game mode but with an extra layer of RNG. So now you have 3 layers of RNG. Getting specific units, the PvP play style, and Grand Party RNG. Due to this only a handful of people who play this game mode get all the rewards each month.
The number of tries you get are hard limited to 15 during the duration of the event. With you getting 3 tries per day and they don't carry over. The first day isn't really a day but instead like 12 hours. So European folks tend to miss out on their first 3 matches. Again people have been complaining about this in the year the game mode has been out but Bandai does nothing.
The rewards are decent if you can get 15 wins. Otherwise they are trash.
Banners aka Sugofest:
Like I said earlier we get a new banner with new units for each game mode except Grand Party.
You will soon realize that the cost to do a multi is expensive relative to the banner structure. But because the whales spend lots of money on the game Bandai will never change this. So you will be at the mercy of the RNG God's to get what you want.
The units themselves:
- 90+% of the units released have a shelf life of a month. And the reason for that is because they no longer are the big boosters and the content isn't designed around them. Instead they are designed for the newest units.
I am certain there are other things I've missed but this gives you an idea on why people are telling you to uninstall the game.
TL;DR The game can be fun at first but as time goes on you realize how annoying, time consuming, and P2W this game can be. It's even more annoying when the developers don't listen or care about the community despite the community giving good ideas/criticism. At the end of the day Bandai only cares about the whales. Not even dolphins. Just whales.

u/Jiv302 All Nami units Acquired 😎 Nov 17 '23
Agreed with pretty much everything other than this
Treasure Map (TM)
- It will take you years to get the old units previously released in this game. Which you need to get because they can be useful in future TM maps.
Almost none of the ftp tm units are so good that you need to get them. TM units went from competing with meta legends at the start (TM Mihawk vs v1 6+ Mihawk), to fairly good units (str TM Big Mom, Valentines Sabo, O-Robi, etc), all the way to where they are now, which is units that aren't that good aka are just used bc they're somewhat boosted for the month.
In fact, in the last year I can't remember a single time I used a TM unit except for the TM map the month after bc they're a booster.
1
u/broke_and_famous Hello. Nov 17 '23
TM F2P units are easily accessible 1.25x boosters with several having great/useful specials.
If you are a veteran player you will only use them as point filler or wave clearer. But as a starting or mid player that are great units to have because you never know when you might need them.
Take this TM for example. You have Jinbei, Koala, and Sabo all being useful if you lack the better units. Jinbei has Ship Bind LB ability and boosts affinity. Allowing you to use the Chibi trio on your main team for a bigger boost if you don't have the Sunny-kun RR. Koala is an accessible unit with Hunger LB which you need for the Chibi boss fight. Then Sabo works for either the Beckman/LuckyRoux or Fuji/Kizaru fight due to his special handling with either one. Gordon also works for Fuji/Kizaru but not everyone may have him or could prefer using him in a different fight.
You also have in this TM Halloween Nami and Perospero acting as good wave clearers. With Perospero also giving you a 3 turn 2.75x chain lock. And with 2 bosses "removing" your bottom row it makes him a great choice to put at the bottom row while provoking that extra damage without the need to use him in the final stage.
And there are other TMs where I can bring up these TM F2Ps being useful characters for people to use when they lack other units. They may not be as effective as older TMs but they can still be used.

u/Adrianime Oshiete Luffy Senpai Nov 16 '23
The short version is. The game is really fun if you don't account for the monthly cycle. But the game in its entirety is the monthly cycle at this point. And once you get caught up in it you might go sunken costs fallacy.
You can enjoy the monthly stuff too, but whether you like it or not it is a dev trap endless cycle.

Nothing to do with salt, the game has been on a downward spiral for a while now which has steepened in 2023 especially, with them now removing farmable f2p characters from game modes to presumably allocate more resources to releasing worthless legends on a weekly basis to milk as much money as possible from whales.
It’s not a good time to start this game, many people only stick around because they’ve invested too much time and money into the game to quit now. I genuinely wouldn’t recommend starting the game in its current state to even the most passionate one piece fan.

ATP don’t worry about things like meta and who the best units are. There’s so many units and game modes that require specific units from specific banners. Unless you’re filthy rich and can just buy your way to every unit, focus on either one or two game modes you enjoy or just go for the characters you want / favorite characters.
I myself have even considered running a second account and just doing the story mode with only the units they give away in the story.

Focus on story mode, stack gems until new year's banner since those usually are the best units until the anniversary ,and sometimes they are even better than the anni units
