What I find insanely cool is that before this chapter, everyone assumed Kuma somehow knew that Luffy had the Nika fruit, and that’s why he was helping him. But now seeing that it was Luffy himself, winning over Kuma with his heart and action really solidifies how cool of a main character he is.
Gear 5 is such a great power up because it encapsulates everything Luffy is, and it’s the culmination of his hard work, not something that has beed gifted to him. Luffy doesn’t have the Nika fruit, he is Nika himself.

Yep, it's VERY nice that One Piece has skirted around going full "chosen one power" thing so elegantly.

Kuma being won over by luffy just being luffy instead of his fruit is fantastic.

Kuma learning that Luffy punched a Celestial 100% convinced him he truly embodied the spirit of Nika.

Maybe that Joyboy timeline wasn't time based but person based? Joyboy, Roger, Nolan, Oden and everyone else who waited for the dawn of the world were waiting for the right time, but Nika was waiting for the right person. Maybe the fruit never revealed itself to anyone until the right person appeared and that's how it evaded the WG for hundreds of years?
