Not only that, but every panel in which he is growing he is also running forward (could be construed as away, but japanese progress reading from right to left so I'd say running forward without looking back) and as he continues getting older he keeps leaning forward like running harder and faster and it isn't until he is running for Bonney and Ginney's sake that he is running the absolute hardest, which I think goes to show how important it is to find someone to love and, if you are blessed to have a child, how much that will motivate you to run the absolute hardest you will ever run in your entire life.

Great observation! His running pose also very much reminded me of the Nika-pose.

Man, that sequence is gonna be so tragically beautiful and even more emotional when put into motion in the anime and coupled with voice acting and a swelling, emotional score underneath.

It gave me tears just reading it, I feel like it’s gonna bring me to Chopper’s back-story level crying when it’s finished and fully animated.

As sad as it’s been to read Kuma’s backstory, I really can’t wait to see how they enhance the whole thing when they animate it. I hope they don’t stretch it out too much because this has honestly been one of the best stretches of the manga Oda has ever written.

I understood this part a bit differently. To me it seemed like he is running, then remembered Ginney and what happened to her, so he tripped, but the he remembered small Bonney so he kept running.

That's a nice way to look at it as well, as if him tripling would indicate that as being his only regret (we all know it must have been considering the sole reason/fear for why he didn't have a child with her ended up coming true)
