Big eyes no 🅱️rains ◉_◉ I made a mistake with making eye contact with my cat. Now I’m being pounced on.

I was hiding behind a pillow for some sort of protection lol. My cat loves to make me his prey 🥲 Here’s another one! (when he was 4 months old) loves to hang around behind our bed frame for a sneak attack
edit: I DIDNT EXPECT THIS POST TO BLOW UP.

Please tell me you oversell the startle when he jumps on you. I swear my cat walks a little taller when I pretend to jump away in terror.

u/SpongeJake Nov 24 '24
I do that! Noises and everything. I once forgot to mute my mic when my little guy attacked me. I was all injured and broken on the floor and then someone on the line snickered. That’s how I knew.

u/strawberrytrapani Nov 24 '24
don’t worry I do! I get startled easily even if I’m expecting him to jump on me. lol I know he loves it!

I’ve had the most horrid day ever and your post just made all the bad things go away 😍 I love that your cat gets to be Reddit-famous for a day. He deserves it. Thanks for sharing ❤️

u/strawberrytrapani Nov 24 '24
thank you! 🥹 I’m glad my little August made your day better. I’m overwhelmed by the amount of people loving our cat.

Big mistake (or great effort?). Hiding encourages him even more. Cats love it when things are semi-hidden, it triggers their hunting instinct.

u/strawberrytrapani Nov 24 '24

My orange cat was named “Crazy” I named her that because as I was bringing her home she was cold, so I put her in my jacket. She proceeded to run around me in circles, scratching and just generally being.. well, yea. So she lived to 18 and I loved her crazy ass the whole time. I was the only one who did. And. I miss her. Like all my babies.
4
u/strawberrytrapani Nov 24 '24
awww!! not everyone can accept the “craziness” of a cat. I know Crazy is running around now with your other babies 🥹

Omg look at his cute little violent face! I want to lock eyes with him by mistake so bad.

u/Conscious-Eye5903 Nov 24 '24
Try blinking your eyes and looking away next time, it’s how cats demonstrate submission. The cat will probably call you a pussy but will stop pouncing

I can often feel my cat hovering over my shoulder while I'm trying to work. If I make eye contact with him I immediately lose at least half an hour to cuddles and back scritches

Ugh, I hate that. I love sleeping late, now that it’s getting to be winter my orange boy likes to come inside my apartment earlier than he does in the summer. He loves to sleep on my kitchen counter which has a clear line of sight into my bedroom since I have no bedroom door thanks to one of my older brothers. If I make eye contact with him and he’s in the mood to snuggle, which he’s 99% of the time, he’ll come on my bed and harass me while I tell him to leave and that I am sleeping.

Last summer when it was really hot I got up off the couch and went to the bathroom to do my business. As I was walking back to the couch I saw my cat sleeping on my bed, I said “hey kitty” enthusiastically and that was enough for me to have a sweaty lap for the next hour or so.

You gotta do the slow blink at him, to show him you're not trying to start a fight

Kitty loves to play. Get him a cat to play with and you will be set free. You’d be surprised that having 2 cats feels like less work than having 1 cat as they keep each other busy and are happier.

We call this "act of war" in our house 😊 there are many ways to initiate "an act of war" depending on which pet you accidentally look at wrong or touch in ghe triggering place 😳 😬 🤣
2
u/lukeyellow Nov 24 '24
if you want it to stop your best bet is to distract him with other toys or work on showing that you're in pain so that he hopefully learns you're not a toy.

Mine will sit and stare at me for hours until i look at her. Then she starts talking. We have some good conversations but you can certainly tell she's a she because she always has to get the last word in

Hate when that happens, pretty much have to put them down, take them to a taxidermist, fashion a hat from their body and parade your new hat around other cats to assert dominance.

Never look a cat in the eyes unless you're ready to fight for your life.

I don't know anything about cats,is it bad to lock eyes? Or is it just depending on the cat itself?

My friend had an orange cat named Morris. You made eye contact with Morris at your own risk, otherwise you had a Velcro cat the rest of your visit. He would even put himself in a position where you had no choice but to kick eyes with him 😂
We miss him.
