Travel advice Best app for Northern lights
We are going to Norway in January, mainly staying near Rjukan. Is this far enough north to also have a fair chance of seeing the northern lights? Or should we plan a few days even further north? What apps would you recommend? Thank you.

Its unlikely that you see anything this far south (or anywhere remotely close to Rjukan). Yr app or yr.no has northern light stats under "other conditions".

Yea, think everyone uses My Aurora Forecast app... Works splendidly.. You could get lucky, but everything depends on the weather and a good amount of solar activity. If KP indexes rise, consider going as high up as you can, on the southern side of Rjukan from where you have a good view towards the north. Rjukan itself is squeezed within a tight valley, with limited views on the night sky..

Much better chance fpr good views northwards 1/2 hour out of town near Møsvatn lake. Hotel Skinnarbu will work.

Northern Lights have been visible that far south a couple of times this year.
However Rjukan is not a good place to see them, even if they are visible in the south.
It is in a long, deep valley that runs east-west, and the view to the north is blocked by hills.
