Hopefully you are at someones home and were being very polite when filling up because that is the saddest amount of pork belly i have seen in any Norwegian Christmas plate

At a restaurant i would have bitched and moaned

Had two more servings. BTW, I’m at my cousin’s home. I’ve been eating all the holiday foods listed on this website

Then we have no problem. ;)

What has been your favorite?

  1. Ribbe
  2. Risgrøt
  3. Multekrem
  4. Lutefisk
  5. Julesild
  6. Can’t remember the name but it was a fermented fish. This dish is not listed on the website Update: thanks to Ink-Kink for reminding me that it was Rakfisk
  7. Pinnekjøtt

We had Gløgg and Aquavit almost everyday.

You are correct. Thank you for the name and will update the list.

This fucking tourist eh?? THIS FUCKING TOURIST! Putting gdmn porridge (!!), rakfisk and fish thats been put in lye above pinnekjøtt.

They have no fucking shame! No respect! Do you know how much that shitty porridge cost before christmas? 4 kr! I am fuming, literally fuming.

Stay east. Dont come west. We will string you up between two boats and rip you apart.

The correct list is of course 1.Ribbe 2.Pinnekjøtt 3.Multekrem 4. Porridge and 5,6,7: Shitty fish thats ruined in every way.

Mutton ribs you can have either smoked or not smoked, for some that makes a big difference

Also some have them in the oven for a while right before serving, especially great for the fattest pieces

Rating Lutefisk above Pinnekjøtt makes me incredibly happy

Glad you put pinnekjøtt down on the list, everyone loves it here but it’s just a lesser bacon rib.

Why is pinnekjøtt at the 7th spot. Pinnekjøtt with mashed rutabaga is arguably one off the best thing ever made.

Looks delish! But no sauce? Also juleøl (Norwegian Xmas beer) is a great match for ribbe.

u/Iaintgoingthere 21h ago

With Opland Aquavit

u/diazinth 18h ago

Seems like there is “kraft” used as sauce. Plate be wet-shiny in places. :P

Everything here looks perfect, only thing missing is the brown sauce! Home made lingonberry jam has always been part of our Christmas dinner too :) never had apples with it but I’m sure the sweetness is great!I hope you enjoy your time here, and I hope you enjoyed Christmas dinner!

u/diazinth 18h ago

Apples can be divine, much for the same reasons svisker are. You should try it at least once. :)

Fried apples and prunes mix are commonly used as sides for turkey. If a whole turkey is cooked, the mix is used as stuffing. It fits good with any dry bird meat. I love it.

Our xmas dinner is both ribbe and turkey. Parents had each their tradition they didnt want to give up on.

Blæs bærre hær, kje rå gå ut

2

u/Ego5687 16h ago

How did it taste?

2

u/KV_86 20h ago

What is that white sausage? We were once given those sausages and trash bags were full of them. It tasted like it was made out of saw dust.

6

u/Iaintgoingthere 19h ago

The sausage I ate was very good with smooth texture.

It is "medister" and they taste awful. I will never understand people who are able to eat them. And yes I'm Norwegian. I felt very bad for this dude when seeing this plate, so much medister trash and so little delicious ribbe

9

u/Coryjacobtrevorson 19h ago

Legit my favorite part, the medister kake og pølse. We also use the small white sausages.

4

u/Iaintgoingthere 18h ago

Had three servings of Ribbe

1

u/taeerom 13h ago

You need to eat better medister.

2

u/Potential-Escape-577 19h ago

But wheres the gravy?

8

u/Iaintgoingthere 18h ago

I took the photo before the gravy was served.

u/GuruRustad 16h ago

Need more Ribbe and less apple

u/csch1992 17h ago

that beer alone would have been a whole dinner for me lol. but looks good

I'm not sure how to feel about this. Never been a fan of medisterkaker or julepølse. And tyttebærsylte (lingonberry jam), apples and prunes have never been part of my christmas dinner. Quite frankly I find the lack of kålrotstappe disturbing. The small black spots on the rind makes me suspect a blowtorch has been involved.

I'm still sure that someone on the east side of the country will applaud this as the perfect Christmas meal, served like their grandmas used to.

Edit: Yeah, that was a bit crass, sorry about that.
I'm used to both mutton- and pork ribs for Christmas. The cured mutton this year was from one of these guys: https://imgur.com/a/4oJ8enp , and it was splendid.

Kålrotstappe (kålrabistappe) this year:
* Half of a big kålrabi (swede), diced.
* Three carrots, diced.
* One medium potato, diced.
* Boiled until soft.
* Discard the water.
* Add two big spoons of butter.
* Small pinch of nutmeg.
* A teaspoon sichuan pepper.
* 2 dl cream (i used lactose free light cream)
* Blend with immersion blender.
* Salt and pepper to taste.
* Add more cream if necessary, and perhaps some gravy from the pork.

Someone on the east side of the country here. The only thing missing on the plate is brown gravy 👍😄

4

u/Alone_Community4419 19h ago

People around the country have different traditions, even different families in the same area have different traditions for what’s included on their Christmas plate. Don’t yuck someone’s yum - this person is probably very excited to be here at all, especially during this season full of so many traditions, and to try some of the Christmas food that Norway has to offer

Norwegian food really is baaaaad. Potato boiled with I guess 0 spice, sweet things there????? Some syltetoy???? Like bruh youre eating meat. and that coleslaw or whatever, and some meat with no sauce, like?

Ill never get the people who like this that did not grew up with it
