Meta Join us on Saturday, November 2nd for our 8th annual charity livestream event supporting Extra Life & Children's Miracle Network Hospitals

Greetings!

We wanted to take a moment to let you know about an upcoming event we're going to be taking part in on Saturday, November 2nd, called Extra Life.

What is Extra Life?

Extra Life is a fundraising program of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Every year, there is a designated "game day" and participants, like our mod team, are encouraged to play games in an effort to raise funds for charity.

Donations are accepted all year long, but there is a concentrated effort on "game day."

On November 2nd, the r/NintendoSwitch mod team will go live on our Twitch channel and play games as we try to gather donations. Donations are completely optional but are tax deductible.

You can read more at https://www.extra-life.org/ and find our individual participant page at https://www.extra-life.org/participant/rNintendoSwitch

We've chosen Duke Children's Hospital specifically to raise funds for. They're local to FlapSnapple on our mod team and have directly helped both Flap's brother-in-law as well as another member of our mod team.

Children's Miracle Networks Hospitals is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charity organization that raises funds and distributes them to partner hospitals.

Donations are used to fund critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment, and charitable care.

Additional reading can be found on the CMN Hospitals about page or on Charity Navigator.

Donating

First off, if you aren't in a position to donate, that's okay! We know everyone has been tightening their belts lately and this is a judgment-free zone; we understand! Watching the stream, hanging out in Twitch chat or our Discord, and spreading the word via sharing our posts about the event and the link to watch are still incredibly impactful ways for you to help us out. We'd still absolutely love to see you on game day!

If you are able to donate, we do have some goodies available for you to show our appreciation, including some physical items:

  • Donate any amount: Include your Discord username (including 4 digit discriminator) in your donation message, and you'll receive a green Extra Life 2024 Donor role as well as a green border, Extra Life trophy, and Extra Life background for your /profile card on our Discord server.
  • Donate $20: The same Discord perks from above, as well as 2 4"x6" sheets of r/NintendoSwitch stickers. There are 7 designs in total!
  • Donate $50: The same Discord perks and 2x sticker sheets from above, as well as an enamel pin featuring our Snoo mascot.

If you have a free Twitch Prime subscription or some extra Bits lying around, that also helps! Any revenue generated through Twitch will also be donated! If you can't donate during our stream on game day, that's okay too! Donations are accepted all year long.

Visit https://extra-life.org/participant/rNintendoSwitch to contribute if you're in a position to do so. There are no minimums, and any amount is appreciated. You must opt-in for the physical rewards in the donation window, so if you want those items, make sure to select the package you want!

Donations are completely optional but are tax deductible. (Your employer may also offer donation matching, so you can double your donation by filling out a simple form with your HR department.)

Reddit Donation Matching (NEW!)

New this year, we've partnered with the Reddit Community Funds team and we're excited to announce that Reddit will be matching donations made via our Extra Life fundraising page (up to $20,000) starting when our stream goes live on November 2nd!

Timing & Schedule

The stream is currently scheduled to start November 2nd at 6AM ET / 3AM PT / 10AM GMT and will run for 18 hours, ending at approximately Midnight ET / 9PM PT / 4AM GMT

We're still finalizing the list of games that we'll be playing, but it's safe to say there will be some amount of Mario Party Jamboree betrayal, as well as something that one of our moderators is lovingly calling "Hyrule Trucking Simulator" via TLoZ: Tears of the Kingdom.

Spread the word, and we hope to see you there!

The r/NintendoSwitch Mod Team

Wish you all the best of luck and a ton of donations! I’m doing my own stream on Saturday and love to see how many others are going for it as well. It’s a great cause and just a fun event.
