This is not new, btw. It was adopted as a similar strategy in 1948 as a way to depopulate Palestinian villages during the Nakba. The Haganah brought trucks with loud speakers, emitting sounds of gunfire, women screaming, children crying, even voices in Arabic saying "save your souls and flee." The Palmach is actually very proud of this as it helped them ethnically cleanse the rural territories without much effort.
