Looking for a 1BD Apartment in San Diego with Indian Community & Nearby Elementary School

Hi everyone,

We are planning to move to San Diego for new job, and we’re currently looking for a 1-bedroom apartment for rent. We have a 5-year-old daughter, so we’d love to find a place within walking distance of a good elementary school. It would also be great if there’s an Indian community nearby, as we’re hoping she can find friends to play with and adapt more easily as she recently travelled from India.

Our budget is $3200 per month. We’re open to recommendations for family-friendly neighborhoods, apartment complexes, or any helpful leads.

Thank you so much in advance for any suggestions

I can't help with the Indian community aspect, but I love the North Park area. You can also find a 2br, which you'll want with having a kid. It's also strongly encouraged that you come visit for a few days first, perhaps just a month or so before moving, and find an apartment during that time. Lots of rentals look for start dates in the next 30 days.

If you don’t mind that the area is a little older I would recommend Mira Mesa; more specifically as you near Miramar college has places that would more than fit your budget and community needs. Many of the Indian groceries and restaurants are in the Miramar area and the community is large enough that there is a cricket round robin of what look like club or amateur teams that play weekly in the park around the corner from where we live. There is also an elementary school and middle school right across the street from the junior college within walking distance of many apartments and condos and the area is generally safe enough to walk with your family. Our 1bd/1ba apartment is on the smaller side but we pay just north of $2k so you should be able to find something reasonable for your budget there.

I’d also like to mention RB/4S ranch..we just applied to get a 3bd/2ba for a little over $3k with decent amenities and also offer 1x1s, 2x1s, and 2x2s that would be well within your budget and is walking distance from an elementary school. My husband’s boss who is Indian lives in the area and loves it. It’s also just a couple exits north of where we currently live so if you have a car it wouldn’t be too difficult to be able to enjoy the cultural amenities in Mira Mesa.

I know Mira Mesa has a large Indian community, there’s many apartment complexes there.

Lots of Indian families in Rancho Penasquitos. Schools are PUSD and elementaries are in residential neighborhoods.

Rancho Penasquitos, Mira Mesa and some in Carmel Mountain. People are chill. The caucasians and Asians above the 56 will love you.

I have no idea about the actual apartments or complexes in these areas, unfortunately. I just know these are the Indian populated areas. Mira Mesa is the most heavily populated Indian area.

Carmel Mountain/Sabre Springs/Scripps Ranch/Penasquitos have a decent Indian population. Most in that area attend PUSD schools.
