Huge influx of joining members without a cause, no change in activity, just numbers
Hello, I want to keep this brief for all:
I'm the mod of a small but active community on reddit and we had around 7.5k members with the regular growth rate being around 15-to-25 new members a day and around 50 on a very busy day.
About one or two week ago, we suddenly got a 100 new members, than 150 the next day. Than it blow to 700. Non-stop, we are getting 600 new members a day now. It blew our numbers to 21k members.
However, we have seen no change in activity. We still have the same level of activity we were seeing back when we had around 7k, there is no chance in page views or uniques either. There is also no cause we could find that we can tie this sudden influx of members. At this point I'm suspecting the new members are bots that inflate the numbers, however, we still don't know why and what's the real source. They are not voting bots, the level of up or down votes has stayed pretty much the same.
The only problem it is causing to my team is we can't accurately track our community size anymore.
I have written to admins to ask about this in the beginning of this too, but so far I haven't heard back form them. I also asked this in a number of places before around the same time, and often heard this was happening to a number of subreddits, so I don't think this is an issue special to us.
I would like the numbers to show us our actual, real numbers again- So is there anything we can do about this? Thank you all.

Mod Answered What in the world?
This morning, the mods in my sub received a barage of hateful messages from a person who simply had a comment removed by out automoderator for not meeting karma requirements. Those messages included anti LGBTQ+ language, and clear threats of violence against us and LGBTQ+ people.
We reported those messages for harassment and threatening violence. I just received a message that the comments violated Reddit's content policy (duh). But the user was not banned or suspended. How in the world is that possible when other users get permanently banned for mundane things like reporting legitimately rule breaking content under the nebulous rule 8?

Is it normal for modteam posts to...
...unsticky automoderator posts because of the modteam post?

No longer moderator
I had been a moderator for subreddit of ChicagoAnonGloryhole, but removed myself from it. Currently it has no moderator, so what will be happening to it? Will the subreddit be removed in the community?

Automod recurring posts for infrequent patreon releases
Hey! Is there a way to setup automod with recurring posts in tandem with posts/ releases from a specific patreon? Releases aren't scheduled in a way that would work with a timer. Thank you!!

False positive account suspensions need action
I appreciate that is is getting a lot harder to block spam and bot accounts etc especially with AI moving so quickly, but I think the system in place right now is too strict. I'm very conscious that new Reddit accounts are sensitive so I try to make my new posts as useful as possible to start off with a good reputation. Every time I get suspended; no VPN, nothing seemingly out of the ordinary, no Tor usage.... despite you still having an onion address for Reddit?
However I was banned, or suspended rather. I can't think of any legitimate reason why. If you were to manually review my post you might be supprised that I'm probably calling out some corruption from subreddit moderators. Cryptocurrency is an extremely sensitive topic and I had provided honest and information with integrity in the interest of the average user to help them fully understand the implications and risks of what the moderator was suggesting, it seems shortly after I was in fact suspended.
Firstly, can I have my account manually reviewed and reactivated, I'll even buy Reddit premium to prove I'm not a bot.....
Secondly, I am a software engineer, and I can do a better job a blocking bots than this, it seems you're mostly focusing on IPs or general heuristics on account behaviour. Or you have some kind of malfunctioning fingerprinting method which it's likely causing false positives. I really think you guys should review how you decide when to suspend an account. Even if you just say, "I'm sorry we can't let you use Reddit without premium as we can't determine if you are a bot.". Tbh I don't see a future where free accounts can exists anyway, proof of work, proof of stake or proof of history are going to be the only ways to prevent. In the meantime, it's probably worth reconsidering these measures.
I'm available for hire btw :D
Peace!

Certain permissions cannot ban from desktop... but can from IOS app?
Some moderators in a Subreddit I manage have the following permissions: Users, Flair, Posts & Comments.
The "user" permission, according to the explanation, should enable moderators to ban on the Subreddit. However, when they hover over the user profile, there is no option to ban. Additionally, when they access Mod Tools and "restricted user" to ban someone, it says "this user does not exist" or something similar.
However, none of this seems to be an issue on the IOS version of Reddit. Moderators with those permissions can freely ban people by accessing their profile and send off a ban message.
However, turning on the Mod Mail permission allows users to access all of the things they cannot access otherwise on the desktop version.
Why is that? Have I missed something?
