Kids story - anyone else think it was irresponsible?
Obviously if you're mentally well it's totally fine, but I always thought this Animatrix short was quite irresponsible and potentially dangerous.
It depicts a depressed teenager who's a bit of an outsider who sets himself free via suicide.
It wouldn't surprise me if at least one mentally ill individual has tried to "free themselves" by copying this.
Anyone got thoughts?

Literature on The Matrix (franchise)
Does anyone have any recs for good literature on The Matrix (the first) or the original trilogy, and especially on the philosophical and religious themes?

Planning to watch Reloaded tonight, tips?
Hi folks, I've seen all the Matrix films quite a few times now.
Not the original trilogy for a year to two, though. I did The Matrix this week and now plan to watch Reloaded (starting) tonight.
Since the last time I watched these movies I actually have identified as transgender and this prompted me to watch again as I know there are hints of certain parts being an analogy for this.
Anyway, not meaning to give too much info but are there any tips for generally getting myself in the right mindset to watch part two?
Anything to look out for or should I just enjoy the ride and see it as a cerebral/action movie experience? I hear people say there is a big change in tone from part one to part two?
Anyway, glad to find this group in here, I do love these movies. Watching part one again was great!

Resurrections Tech Question Spoiler
Help a fan out here -
How are Bugs (sans blue hair and cool fit) and Seq in the bathroom for brief moment with faux-Morpheus as he’s trying to get Neo to take the red pill and exit through the mirror?
I say faux-Morpheus only because my issue with this version is that they don’t have a scene with him and Neo where Neo really laments his friend is gone but not really and the faux one has a line about “he never stopped searching for you two…not once” because clearly at some point in the last 60 years in universe Morpheus either died or was killed (I refuse to acknowledge the Matrix Online as canon, I just do).

My main takeaway from Resurrections
... is that both Reeves and Moss aged like fine wine. They were beautiful people to begin with, but now they're just drop-dead gorgeous.
I also think their acting improved tremendously. I never really cared about their romance until this film, where it felt so real and immediate. Especially the scene in which they exit the Matrix, and they both look so aged and weary, but clinging on to each other.
Their performances were so good that I found myself not actually missing Weaving and Fishburne that much, which is very impressive. The absences of the real Smith and Morpheus actually enabled me to focus more on the isolation that Neo and Trinity would be feeling after 60 years.

That very specific Matrix style of acting
It is ironic that humans and programs in these films behave identically, there's a subdued robotic quality to the human characters. Is there any discussion behind this choice in interviews? One would think the human characters should be especially personable and warm and, well, human to contrast with the machines. Even the jokes are often delivered in a deadpan way.
I've watched the Wachowski's other films and I can see their style of dialogue is distinctive, but the way it's performed isn't always the same. There's this cinematic, bordering on pretentious or cheesy quality to the writing that somehow works so well. But as for performances, Bound and Jupiter Ascending and Speed Racer couldn't be more different. So I'm suspecting the performance style in the Matrix is intentional, but I'd love to know the reasoning for it.

Watching matrix 2 right after the first and…
What is going on lol. I feel like there was such a huge shift in vision and atmosphere. The first felt so liminal and off putting in its own way, but the second feels like a different story. I’m at the club rave scene, I’m curious as to how the story progresses

What If?
I have seen the first Matrix probably 30-40 times, I just got to wonder what would’ve been different if Tank hadn’t skipped the introduction training courses.

Resurrections
I've watched Resurrections again days ago and the meta commetary still bugs me, literally lol, outside of the interesting new lore they added in the movie. What would be your ideal Resurrections script or plot if they didnt added any meta commentary or focused so heavily on that commentary but just tell a Matrix story ?

I finally watched Resurrections [review] Spoiler
It's a shame the script is very cluttered and convoluted, because there's a lot of good ideas in here. I enjoyed all the jokes and parody of legacy sequels, and the way the narrative kept drawing parallels between the past and present. The explanation behind Neo and Trinity's survival made a fair amount of sense. The recasting of Smith and Morpheus was something I did not think could work, but did. It made Neo and Trinity seem more isolated and emphasized the passage of time. I also think Reeves and Moss were just amazing together. My favourite scene of the film is right when they finally exit together and you can just see them cuddling each, grey-haired, looking like an old married couple. It's really beautiful.
The film has two primary issues. One, everything is far too complicated. It's not really clear what the situation is with the Machines. Some of them are peaceful, but others are still evil. There's apparently a truce, but also humanity are in hiding. It's not clear why humans take the massive risk of trying to free Trinity when that could lead to open war again. Smith is still around because reasons, then I guess they convince him to be an ally off-screen, then he's the main bad again until he disappears at the end of the film (did they defeat him or not?).
The second issue is that the cinematography is really dreadful. It looks digital and cheap. I don't know what the budget was but it gave me the impression of a direct to video action film. The editing is too fast and you can't enjoy the action properly. Neo is mostly reduced to Force Pushing his way out of every situation. Also, the colour tinting. In the previous films, you had green for the Matrix and blue for the real world. I know they changed that the end of the third film, but something similar should've happened here to enhance the visual language of the film. Like maybe the Matrix is very saturated while the real world is dull. Instead, it's all the same. That kinda bothered me.
