City doesn't have to go to the state to make changes to the road, trucks will also no longer be allowed to take this route and instead have to divert elsewhere.

Kinda like kennesaw ave, city ordinance bans trucks from driving on it.

I always thought for the sake of traffic Marietta should have made Polk Street all lanes one-way westbound from the loop terminating where Polk Street Extension reaches Whitlock Ave, and make Whitlock Ave all lanes one way eastbound from the Polk Street Extension all the way to the loop. Imagine how much that might have facilitated rush hour.

This is an interesting idea, and maybe one worth trying. It reminds me that Church St and Cherokee St were once two-way roads once upon a time as well.

Interesting idea. My only concern is how the middle school and West Side will be accessed by those who come from the high school area. Stewart would also be more clogged with people trying to bypass Polk traffic

As someone who lives on a pass through road already, I can see this being more of a nightmare trying to leave my house in the morning. Others who live in the area would also not be okay with it.

Agree that the idea is interesting, but the people who live in the area will be impacted the most, and I feel like most would not be okay with a change in traffic. I am definitely not okay with this as someone who lives between Polk and Stewart. The traffic is already bad enough as is, and pretty much all thru traffic ignores the stop signs, especially those around the schools.

Edit: Not to mention, I’ve noticed a lot of drivers passing through have no regard for the speed limit despite the area being residential. Some cars don’t even want to stop for people in crosswalks, so I would rather not have a change in traffic that would increase driving hostility.

Agreed. I live on a pass through between Whitlock and Polk, and the current traffic patterns already make it hard to get out in the morning. It would make driving hell for those who live in the area.

This was something they wanted to do back around 2008 I think. It just didn't gain any traction and I don't remember why not. My brother used to live right off the square and the traffic was always a hot topic.

Heck, we should give it a go and see if it works. What do we have to lose?
