Vintage antenna help on TR7

Hello all,

Short version: I want to hook a new antenna to my old coaxial.

Longer version: I'm replacing my old TR7 radio antenna with a new one. The antenna location is on the back of the car, and the wire appears to be a small-ish coaxial cable affixed through the antenna housing. Rather than snake the new antenna's wire through the pillars and doors, etc. to the back of the radio, I’d like to cut the old wire and either join it to the new wire or else join it to a female connector. What is the best way to accomplish this? Are there coaxial connectors for just such a purpose? Thanks in advance.

Especially true with our beloved LBCs as they’ve had so many years for fasteners to rust and seize. 🤬

Not sure how I feel about them tbh. Maybe down the road I’ll respray them in gunmetal or get the face diamond cut.

I bought this little beauty as a journey for my son and I. We will do things together on it. Bond forming, life forming and just good fun! When he gets to an age that’s right, I will gift it to him. Currently he is 4 years old.

Got a bit done on it lately. The fuel tank is back one and hooked up, the fuel line is intact and fuel flows good. I have yet to test the pump, but it looks good. I got the cable for the heater box hooked back up and it slides smoothly. All that should be left to get it to run is replacing a few wires in back. Also got the driver's seat ripped out to access wires behind the dash easier, and the floor pan looks good.

V8 Swap 73 MGB

Good morning everyone,

After my trial by fire into car electronics this past month I’m feeling ambitious. The engine and transmission in my car is original and running, but I am wanting a bit of a challenge. I know eventually I want to drop a 215 V8 in the car, and everything in me is telling me now is the right time to do it.

I will have to take out quite a lot of components in order to get my supporting components replaced, so I was thinking if I’m going to hire someone to do that work, it may make sense for them to do the necessary modifications to the car now for the V8 conversion. Then instead of putting the original engine and transmission back in, I’ll just drop in the V8 and start from scratch.

First question I have is how ambitious is this? I don’t plan on really driving it for a significant amount of time, this car is strictly a project and I have loved every frustrating minute of working on the car so I’m not scared, should I be?

Second question is what to look for in a V8 swap? I know the rover engine is based on the 215 and is ideal but I can’t find many here in the states. Can I just get a 215 and make modifications later? Also what do I look for when inspecting these engines? Should I bring along a mechanic friend?

Third question is what transmission? Engines I can fake my way through knowing but I know absolutely nothing about transmissions, any input here?

1973 MGB Electrical

Hey everyone, working through my restoration of a 1973 b with my father in law and we are on to the electrical system. I’m a professional electrical engineer so I know what I am doing, but don’t do car electrical very much. Any advice on equipment to use? What to avoid? Best ways to troubleshoot? Etc?

1973 MGB Rust

I recently got a 1973 MGB which my father in law and I are restoring together. It has a decent amount of under body rust and deterioration in the door sill area, inside of the rockers (the rockers themselves are fine) which we knew when we bought it.

Anyone have any idea how much to expect to get the following parts replaced or have any advice on how to go about it? Just the labor for the welding etc. assuming the car is fully prepped and I already have the parts:

  1. Splash panels
  2. Everything interior of the rocker panels both left and right: -Inner panel -Side member bottom -Sills -Jacking point repair section of cross member -Jacking bracket brace and jacking bracket
  3. Floor panels

Starting my journey!

Hey all! I'm a guy who knows very little about cars. I daily drive a 1996 Ford Tarus and the process of working on it (very minimally, just some paint and electrical work) has been so gratifying that I want to get into the hobby.

Was looking around for some vintage cars and absolutely fell in love with the look of the spitfire.

Do y'all have any advice for someone like me? I'm being told that British cars can become money pits and are very difficult to source parts for, is that true? And for someone who has zero experience working on anything under the hood, is this a decent way to get started? The triumph at least looks to have a very accessible engine.

I'm not sure if I'm getting myself in over my head here, would love to hear some thoughts!

Mother in law’s house went down in the Ventura County fire last month and lost everything. House next door also lost everything, these are the frames of a jag xk150 and a mg td series.

So sad
