So am I correct in understanding that Joveljic’s U-22 status is ending this offseason? And he’s up for a new deal?

He was at $683k last season which I think is fine

I can’t say I’m rearing to bump him up to like $1 mil long term though

Why not give him 1 million?? He was way more valuable and efficient to the team than Brugman and Fagundez, who were making 1.4 and 1.3 million respectively. If anyone deserves to be highest paid player on the team besides the DPs, it's definitely either Dejan or Garces.

Brugman and fagundez were both overpaid, none of the three should be at 1 mil in my mind

That’s why Brugman got salary dumped and both he and Diego were left unprotected

Cerrillo and Garcés are the best non-DP

But also, being the best player doesn’t mean you get paid the next most or whatever the case

It’s about replaceability

I like Joveljic but he doesn’t have good build up or foot play. I think you can get 80% of his production for $500k-$700k if not less.

When you invest so much into midfield, your striker just has to have a brain. Berry is evidence that even without scoring a bunch of goals you can still make the tactics work by looking like you want to try shooting

Dejan’s really smart. And a good finisher. But I think if he’s ready to be paid big money the Galaxy shouldn’t be the ones to do it.

You said you can get 80% of his production from a guy making 500k-700k. Considering Dejan had 28 combined G/A in 33 games this season, with all due respect, where do you think you are getting a player that can give you 22.4 G/A at that range? I'm looking around the league, and I dont see that unless a team lucked out on a U-22 deal like we did. And as for his actual return of 28 G/A, only 9 players in the league had better than that, and all of them were DPs.

Like I was skeptical on Dejan myself, just a brief dive into my post history will tell you that I was doubting him hard at the beginning of the season, I even was begging that GV would go out and get a proper backup, but what Dejan did this season was incredible. As I said, DP-level numbers on an extremely bargain salary, and even moving him into the TAM-level this year would still be a great deal if he replicates his form. Heck, considering how many injuries he fought through this year, I would actually say there is another level for him to reach next year, perhaps compete for the Golden Boot.
