Please don't misunderstand me, folks.

But Francesca's courage is undeniably sexy.

She's attractive, regardless of her political positions. It's bizarre that it almost feels like a crime for a man to say that these days

truly was no reason to add that last part

Given that complimenting a famous woman's attractiveness is clearly seen as a crime by many people these days I respectfully disagree.

Chomsky also addressed the talking-point in a 1988 debate at OSU with neocon Richard Perle.

The notion in-question is a political ploy. That was its intended purpose - as Chomsky states, 'to up the ante' once the PLO accepted that Israel was a factual reality.

That wasn't enough - Israel then demanded that its victims accept the alleged intrinsic political legitimacy of their own expulsion and oppression.

AFAIK, not even the US demands that indigenous peoples accept the alleged intrinsic political legitimacy of Manifest Destiny.

AFAIK, not even the US demands that indigenous peoples accept the alleged intrinsic political legitimacy of Manifest Destiny.

They don't now because the indigenous population is now so small and depowered as to be effectively rendered incapable of resistance. Back during the Manifest Destiny time period itself the US acquired land "legally" through "treaties" and the native population would be force to accept being "civilized" (which includes acknowledging the moral "correctness" of Manifest destiny" or face extermination.

Personally I believe that if Israel were to also kill 90% of the Palestinians and sequester the rest to "reservations" like Bibi and Trump seem want to do they'd also "start feeling bad" about it after 100 years like the US pretends to (and also like the US not actually do anything to rectify the problem).

Hundreds of broken treaties.

And please don't forget: there was an entire political camp of "Removalists" at the time of the Civil War that advocated for indigenous displacement.

The Lincoln administration was actively Removalist. Frederick Douglass gave Removalist speeches, arguing the Indigenous were not "civilizable" like African-Americans.

I remember thinking that anti-indigenous people sentiment was unique from racism; because I recall reading that Mark Twain was sympathetic to abolitionism but hated Native Americans.

For whatever reason that stuck in my head, and I feel like colonial societies have a unique hatred for the colonized because of an underlying insecurity - thus, they functionally need to have an absurd level of hate to justify the unjustifiable.

"Settler colonialism as structure" -- a political-economic system that fundamentally incentivizes indigenous dispossession naturally leads to stratified society and amplifies racism as well as sexism.

Settler psychology is fascinating and pretty defined in that you see the same psychology in settlers everywhere.

Excellent point.

This reminds me of the recent event where Biden apologized for the forced re-education of indigenous peoples, who were taken from their parents and placed in boarding schools. Similar thing happened in Canada.
