News Retired Jewish professor Haim Bresheeth, a child of Holocaust survivors and founder of the Jewish Network for Palestine, was arrested under a UK anti-terrorism law after speaking at a recent Palestine solidarity protest in London.

Another example of sweeping changes to freedom of expression, which I believe is due to pro-Israel activism - which is primarily concerned with censorship and controlling the narrative (establishing boundaries, criminalizing Palestine solidarity, etc.).

In America, a lot of our anti-terror laws were motivated by pro-Israel activism.

I think that trend generalizes to other Western liberal democracies. Pro-Israel extremist nationalism requires upending basic civil liberties like freedom of speech and assembly.

I think the Israel lobby would love nothing more than for America and the UK to emulate Israel in how it treats Palestinians, except transpose that apartheid towards any potential group that could hold Israel accountable for its crimes.

And like anti-BDS laws are being used as a template for Big Oil to criminalize opposition from climate change activists - these speech laws will be used against other political enemies of the State.

That's a great observation. I recently read about Israel creating the narrative about modern terrorists to discredit the PLO when they rose after 1967.

The us vs them, war of civilizations, West vs Islam, and this concept of Jihadism. The USA and the West followed that script in their wars on terror. Israel does what the USA did in Iraq and when going after terrorists. They violate other countries' sovereignty and invade their air space to bomb a whole community.

Oh wait I think that's what I read a while ago.

Absolutely insane to see this dystopian totalitarian nightmare spreading. Thankful to live in the US where you can still speak relatively freely, but the crackdowns I’m seeing in Germany and the UK are flat out disturbing. You would think as many times as these exact situations have played out in history we would’ve learned by now, but I guess it’ll settle in once the forced disappearances begin. I pray it doesn’t come to that though.

I believe this article is related to the same march Mr bresheeth was arrested at.

As a brit the trend towards the misuse of the terrorism act is very disturbing with I believe 4 different arrests in the last six months including journalist Richard medhurst. What is this country becoming!!
