Creative After being called עוכרת ישראל (hater of Israel) by a best friend this week and cutting ties, this lifted my heart today.

Don't forget the Yiddish word for it: yarmulke!

I’m sorry, that’s really shit. We had to cut off someone who went off the deep end out of nowhere and started calling people kapos.

I love the kippahs, they’re gorgeous.

This is beautiful. It's so affirming to see compassion when most of the world has let its collective heart harden.

I thought only men wore kippot though?

I've seen women wear them. I mean why not

Really? I’m reform and never seen a woman wear one, not that there’s anything wrong with it

I'm reform and I've seen women wear them occasionally, though usually only when they're in a service leading role (rabbi, cantor, choir director, etc)

I feel like I'm missing something? What's the symbolism of the watermelons?

Watermelons are a commonly used symbol of Palestinian resistance. I believe it started during the first intifada because Israel outlawed all displays of the Palestinian flag (fuck freedom of speech, right?). Watermelons have the same colors as the Palestinian flag and are a popular crop in Palestine.

Other popular symbols are the olive branch, dove, red poppies, the kufiyah, and the phrase this scarf represents - from the river to the sea.

That’s a badge of honor in my opinion. But I’m also sorry you had to cut ties. Losing a friend still sucks but you’re definitely better off!
