š¬ Discussion / Question What is this Town/District in Clifden, County Galway?
No. 27, George McDermott
I see he was married in the Roman Catholic Chapel of Tully which was in the Union of Clifden of County Galway.
But what is the neighborhood/town and what is the Registrarās District?
Also if they are not around today what would be its modern name for that area, just curious?

Cloonlooaun (Cloonluaun) beside Tully in Galway I reckon. Spelling definitely wasnāt strict in these records

https://www.townlands.ie/galway/ballynahinch/ballynakill/rinvyle/cloonlooaun/
It will give you the registrar's district on the index entry for the record on irishgenealogy.

On the index it says āSR District/Reg Area: Clifdenā which matches up with the Union not the register.
Iāve only ever noticed IrishGenealogy says the āunionā district on their indexes NOT the āregisterā district, town, or county names.

Cliften would be one of the main registration districts for Galway.
You can see a list of registration districts by county on the swilson site.

Registrar district is probably Renvyle
Can't make out the other bit, might start with Cloon which is the Irish for meadow.
Edit: probably here, Cloonloouan
