Its so important that people keep speaking up on this! The Bangladeshi Voice has been posting about it non stop on Instagram. I posted this the other day, but it bears repeating. I asked the Bangladeshi Voice what we can do to help support the protestors - could we donate towards bailout money and they said that they bailout system is corrupt, but they are currently working on ways to fundraise to help out people. What we can do for now is to keep speaking up on it and amplifying people's voices.

I don't think this is a coup. The rebellion wasn't trying to take over from what I understand. They want policy changes and they wanted Hasina to resign for killing protestors.

It was a protest but the protest got hijacked by military and other factions and they made all of Officials leave. So yes by the definition it is a coup just not done by the student protesters but rather the military.

The military didn’t make them leave, the chief is PM’s brother-in-law. PM resigned and left the reigns at the hands of the military to create an interim government for the time being, because the only other option she had left was ordering the army to brush fire on the protesters that were advancing towards her home, and that is not sustainable

Unfortunately a lot of the worst actors around the globe have become very good at exploiting instability and unrest. Without revolutionary party a citizens coup just means the opposition becomes the unelected leaders in the vacuum….

This is a very subjective take. Her administration has let corruption run deep in the country. Not to take away from the merits of her administration (raising the GDP of the nation), but her ruling with an iron fist has let many in power position themselves above the law.

The military has stepped in to facilitate the creation of an interim government by inviting many political leaders across Bangladesh. The protestors do not trust the military as of rn, so a re-election is due. How that will happen is currently up in the air but I do hope the new government seeks to combat the corrupt system and give out justice to its people.

Corruption, nepotism, extrajudicial killings and disappearances of journalists critical of her regime…yeah, she was a vanguard of democracy. 🙄
