"Apr 16, 2024 - Just as the New York Times concluded it's investigation into the lies that they widely "reported" about October 7th The Intercept yesterday exposed an internal leaked memo that the NYT instructed their journalists not to say words like 'Occupied Territories, Refugee Camp or even "Palestine" (much less Ethnic Cleansing or Genocide) in their reporting. Breaking Points discussion.

Article by the Intercept: New York Times to Journalists: What You Can't Say on Gaza War

I didn’t need leaked documents to know this. It’s already been quite obvious

5

u/Valathiril Apr 17 '24

Good for you. It's not obvious to a lot of Americans.

56

u/Salishseer Apr 16 '24

& the genocide goes on.

Proving they are not news, just a bought and paid for mouthpiece.

16

u/kittenconfidential Apr 17 '24

"Free speech"

New York Times giving New York comPost a run for its money.

21

u/voxpopper Apr 16 '24

I'd argue the NYT is much worse since few take the NY Post seriously whereas some people, especially neo-liberals trust it and claim the NYT is the paper of record.
A wolf in sheep's clothing as it were.

11

u/addicted_to_trash Apr 17 '24

Neolibs love it because the propaganda confirms their world view.

Bad things happen in the world and it's a shock to everyone, never the result of policy or deliberate action, unless of course it is an action taken by an enemy. Then they are enemy number 1 and the US is justified in taking action against that .

2

u/hydroxypcp Estonia Apr 17 '24

gotta say, giggled at "New York comPost"

15

u/RebelliousInNature Apr 16 '24
  • Whatever you do, don’t tell them what’s really happening. They’ll get mad.

Just wow NYT. Wow.

29

u/BewareOfGrom Apr 16 '24

Ill take "what is the least surprising news story this century" for 800 Alex.

u/voxpopper Apr 16 '24

Is saying that Israel wields undue influence in U.S. media considered antisemitic?

10

u/balance_bliss Apr 17 '24

It evidently does wield immense influence in both US Media and US politics. This isn't saying anything against Jewish people, this is about the state of Israel. It's not antisemitic, but it is part of this media influence to spin it as being so.

Israel playbook: anything Hitler said we do we can do because you're a nazi for pointing it out

13

u/Street_Struggle_598 Apr 16 '24

That's crazy. Wtf ny times

25

u/Salishseer Apr 16 '24

I support occupied Palestine & am horrified by their treatment by Israel. Putting a population in refugee camps in their own country is evil. It was evil when done by Germany to the jews during WW1 & it is no less evil now.

9

u/readitpropaganda Apr 16 '24

Germany "oh so proud of Israel taking a page from our book, let's do everything to support them"

Isn’t nice though that when we criticize Israel we can’t say “Jews” even though they are a secular state of Jews.

However when Muslim terrorists do bad things it’s ok to blame Muslims in bulk. We often see politicians and talking heads saying it’s a Muslim problem that Muslims should speak up ect..ect

Yet if you say the same words but say Jews instead you’re bigoted and racist.

It’s ok for themselves to call Israel a Jewish country and brag about it but you’re antisemitic if you say Jews did something wrong.

Not that I disagree with you, but at the same time the amount of Jewish people speaking out against Israel’s actions is very, very small percentage of the Jewish community and it’s pretty obvious that the vast majority are ok with what Israel is doing even if they don’t openly say it.

Don’t get me wrong I’ve seen Jewish people standing up against it both normal people and a few prominent people but the numbers are incredibly small.

There is a simple fact. If Jewish people around the world stood up and condemned Israeli actions this would end with in a week.

Israel couldn’t continue if the Jewish people around the world stood up and denounced this.

Silence is complicity and they know that better than anyone.

1

u/nekojitaa Apr 21 '24

The hypocrisy is real and white supremacy plays along with whatever narrative is written/said by Israel.

You missed the entire point. They do exactly that to Muslims and Arabs in general but it’s “bigoted” if done to Jews.

but you are correct. This double standard doesn't mean we should also do it to Jews, but to stop doing it to Arabs and Muslims

5

u/truthishearsay Apr 17 '24

Sorry I got busy and didn’t get to explain my point.

What I was getting at, is after 9/11 after Oct 7th if you were a Muslim or in support of Palestinians and went on any media outlet you were always given qualifier question.

“Do you condemn the attack, you condemn Al Quada, do you condemn Hamas” ect.. ect..   Just because that person was a Muslim it was demanded of them to denounce the actions.

Yet never is this done with Christian’s or Jews. When a radicalized Christian kills people they never ask Christians to denounce the attacks.

When it’s Israeli settler violence Jews are never asked to denounce those attacks just because they are Jews.

No Jews are ever required to denounce Israel’s actions so it’s a double standard on the bigotry

Democrats = an Army of devils! You know how in Game of Thrones, the chief devil on the horse gave goos bumps. Biden reminds of that guy!

9

u/jazzmagg Apr 16 '24

Are we permitted to say positive things about Palistine? And negative things about Israel...?

Doesn't that result in an automatic ban..?

9

u/Pardon_My_Hand Apr 16 '24

More Israeli air cover, unfortunately, too late for Israel to cover up their campaign of murder and terror

Damn thought NYT is legit?

2

u/Dismal_You_5359 Apr 17 '24

Cool, Israel needs to stop bombings and killings and face trial for not showing restraint. ON the other hand, can we stop acting like Hammas isn’t backed by Iran who’s trying to rule the region with Islam? It would be like if Christians ruled America. Fuk religion, Judaism, Islam and Christianity are the sources to our suffering. Don’t let people led by blind faith dictate our countries actions.

u/Syntrak Apr 17 '24

Human greed is the cause of all the problems on this planet, if it was not for greed everyone couls get along regardless of belief etc.

1

u/Dismal_You_5359 Apr 17 '24

No, i doubt the world can get along when all religions think they’re the chosen ones and everyone else is an infidel or blasphemous. EVERY war was instigated by religion or religion had major influence on it.

Who fcuking cares? Krystal will go and advocate voting for the same regime come Nov this year. Faining outrage and moral indignation all this time really falls into my dead years, after seeing her and her ilk batting for what's happening right now.

As a Middle Eastern who's been aware of the Palestinian-Israeli issue long before the current events, I keep wondering why the West supports Israel so much and so blindly.

Whether this or any other topic, there is usually not one single factor but rather multiple factors which are not all equal (some factors are stronger than others).

For my question above (why the West supports Israel so much), I think the list of reasons include: 1- the US wants to have / maintain hegemony over the world. Israel is, as Noam Chomsky put it, a military offshoot of the US in the Middle East. It's like a subsidiary of a mother company. 2- the intertwining of the Jewish and Christian communities (the Judeo-Christian society) as opposed to Muslim societies. Western clothing, western lifestyle, and so on aren't things that Christians and Jews differ on. So to the West, Israel is "us / we". 3- a third reason is whiteness. While the Jews are originally not white, due to mixing with whites, they now look white (at least some of the Israeli Jews. There is talk that Palestinian are actually more semetic than Israelis in that Palestines today are descendents of Jews that converted in the past and didn't mix with whites like Israeli Jews).

However, a huge reason, or perhaps as a result of the above, is ignorance. Yesterday I read a post referring to a Pew Research Facility poll where 50% of Americans didn't know which side (Palestinian or Israeli) suffered more deaths. If the difference was minimal like 400 to 600 then that's fine, but when one side suffered less than 1,500 and the other more than 33,000, and your country is heavily involved in the conflict, then that's just way too ignorant, ridiculously ignorant. I think a big reason why normal everyday Westerns support Israel so much is because of the manufactured ignorance by their news agencies and governments.

It not uncommon for a Westerner to think that the Arabs / Palestinians / Muslims hate Israel simply because Israel is Jewish, as if there was no land grabbing, ethnic cleansing, killing, expelling, torturing, and sexual assaulting having been committed by Israel on the Palestinians for decades. Seth Rogan, an American Jew, didn't even know that "there were people [Palestinians] there [what is now Palestine / Israel]"

1

u/Catscoffeepanipuri Apr 17 '24

And journalists wonder why no one uses them or trust them lol

1

u/True_Performer1744 Apr 16 '24

Biden has no respect for freedom of the press. He has been suppressing information about other candidates and any news that does not put him in a good light. I've never seen a president violate so many laws and constitutional rights as Biden has.

2

u/bearkin1 Apr 17 '24

Biden obviously is evil in his continued support of the genocide, but I don't think he's suppressing the news here. I think he's above that level. There is lots of zionist influence in the west, including buying lower-level politicians and corporations, and that's where it's more likely where this news bias is coming from.

1

u/True_Performer1744 Apr 17 '24

RFK recently sued Biden and won for suppressing information about him and his campaign. As well as the propaganda he released. But there has always been a news bias on every level. There are more independent journalists as a result of the low integrity of these news corporations. I don't think his evil stops there by any means.
