Also, the last time I checked US military has permanent priority queue to use the canal by default. This is about corporate interests not national security.

Lol what's the alternative? The US stop providing funds to Panama for the canal? So China can come in and take our place and have Panama as a closer trade partner? So they can start accepting the Chinese Yuan as a secondary currency instead of the US Dollar and further devalue the US Dollar and strengthen the Yuan?
