On launch:

  • 20 cars, 5 tracks (Laguna Seca, Brands Hatch, Imola, Mount Panorama, Suzuka) - eventually getting to 15 tracks and 100 cars by the full launch in Fall
  • Singleplayer modes: practice, quick race, Driving Academy (seems to be similar to Gran Turismo's license tests)
  • Freeroam map featuring the Eifel region around the Nurburgring coming in Summer - full map will be gradually released over time

Singleplayer content seems kinda lackluster tbh, hope they expand it eventually

I didn't care for Competizione, but loved the original AC (and it's modding scene). Free-roam maps with friends were just as awesome as pushing the RUF Yellowbird around the Nordschleife.

AC really has the best driving feel out there IMO. Actually excited for this.

How's EVO as an entry point for someone who was hardcore into GT7 but wants to move away from the PS5?

The original Assetto Corsa is a no brainer. Not only is it a good simulator in its own right, the modding scene is by far the best out of any racing sim.

We'll know when it launches, but if you want variety, plain old Assetto Corsa is very cheap on Steam right now.

If GT3s is your thing, Assetto Corsa Competizone is also heavily on sale right now.

Other options are Forza, Beam: NG, or if you really want to: iRacing. Nothing comes close in competetiveness and online racing - but it gets expensive fast.

BeamNG is not a Racing sim, its a sandbox driving game kinda like Garry's mod. While you can sim race to some degree on Beammp the game is not setup for it by default and it needs several "hacky" mods for it to work and it doesent really have the cars or tracks for it.

Kind of unrelated, but would you happen to have any chill, immersive recommendations for someone who hasn't really played any racing games since Burnout/NFS on the PS2 but wants to flex their new graphics card?

Forza Horizon 5 sounds like what you're after. It's chill and looks grea, and is similar to Burnout.

Assetto Corsa with mods (Sol at least iirc). This is more do it yourself both on regards to content and look.

BeamNG also looks great.

If you want standard track racing (not really chill), Assetto Corsa Competizone looks (and sounds!) great.

Similar to burnout? Wat? While Horizon isn't exactly a sim, it's not even remotely as arcade as Burnout.

Of course, but from the games I mentioned it is the most arcadey. It's not a Burnout game, but it's closer to Paradise than the other ones.

And we don't speak of the current incarnations of The Crew or Test Drive.

AMS2 is the way to go.

Very good AI, improving online multiplayer, 100 tracks and hundreds of cars

Looks great and is optimized extremely well

Probably great. But if you want to dip your toes into the water for the lowest price, the original Assetto Corsa is really cheap and will give you a feel. It is old, but there's also some graphics mods (and on the latter point, mods is really where AC and PC Sims in general really differentiate themselves.

I'd recommend both the Assetto Corsa games and Automobilista 2 if you wanna transition to more simulation-oriented racing. There isn't a clear equivalent to GT7 (I guess Forza Motorsport, but the most recent one is crap). Assetto Corsa (the original one) has an amazing amount of mods and is the easiest way to get to drive a wide variety of cars.

If you want competitive sim-racing, iRacing is the best option at the moment.

New Forza is in a ok state now. Still not much game there, but the tracks, driving, cars, and technical performance are all in a decent place now.

It's where it should have been at launch. Should still be better, but it's not awful anymore.

That's good to hear!

EVO seems like the closest thing to GT7 we're going to get on PC. I'd say it's a great starting point.

Hard disagree. AC is a full sim. Also this is launching with 20 cars. Forza Motorsport 8 is the closest thing to GT7 on PC at the moment.

I'm talking about modes mainly, AC EVO sounds like it's going to have some form of mode similar to GT mode (car collecting, licence tests, events etc.) and competitive multiplayer.

Plus while AC EVO is a sim, GT7 isn't Need for Speed so it's not a massive leap. If people have a wheel and are competent at GT7 they'll be fine.

I think that’s fair. I feel like if gt7 was on pc and had a bit more work it would be on par with Forza Motorsport as a sim. The gulf between those and like AC though is still huge but these games are passable

I really wish GT7 was on PC, it's a massive shame it's not. I hope for the next one they do a PC release since everything is trending towards PC releases in gaming nowadays.

even if EVO is already out there, you should definitely experience the original AC

Happy they released this video, as I was planning on getting a steering wheel for the Nordschleife. Now knowing it comes out in summer 25 means I will prioritize other things first. Excited for the virtual world. Each year I visit the real place maybe 2 or 3 times with friends, and drive real laps. Been doing it since 2020.

Does anyone know if the early access will support vr?
